Chopper thinking the imposters are real is because he's a reindeer, to us all reindeer look pretty much the same, so Chopper has trouble discerning between people. I'm pretty sure when he meets new people he keeps up with who they are by their hair, clothes, and smell more than their face and body. It has been two years so he just assumes their scent has changed, that them looking different is normal. And add onto that the fact that Chopper has trouble realizing when people are lying to him, he thinks the imposters are not sus...

For me the reason Robin is not tan anymore is because she got really tan from her time spent in Alabasta. As she spent time in tequila wolf and with the revs, she was in colder climates which caused the tan to go away. Same thing with Zoro when he was tied up outside the marine base for days straight in the heat he got tan then lost it after spending 2 years on gloomy island.

I think were overcomplicating it. Oda is just unable to draw dark skinned characters consistently. Usopp and Robin being dark skinned in the past is all toei and nothing to do with Oda. -Wano spoiler- Even King is stated to be a dark skinned man but in colour spreads he was drawn with a white skin. Oda is just unfamiliar with it and has always drawn his characters to be white-ish.

Cannon is right btw, observation Haki can be used to determine the strength of an opponent via their presence, that's a pretty important part of it (But I don't blame Jack for not remembering because its used/mentioned quite rarely, at least up until where he's at in the anime). Only explanation for why Luffy mistook the fake sanji and zoro for the real ones would be that observation haki kinda remains dormant in relaxed situations like that - for Luffy to measure the strength of someone's presence, he kinda has to hit the "on" switch, or be in battle

Not to give too much away about Haki but it's something you have to activate. Best explain is Whitebeard getting stabbed, that if he had his haki on (which we see with him and Ace back in the day he could keep on 24/7 at a somewhat low level) but because he was sick he wasn't able to have it on at all times. So Luffy wouldn't activate haki on his own crewmates to check if they're really them or not or to see how much stronger they grown. That's just not a Luffy thing to do.

You guys are probably tired of the One Pace comments, but I do have a case to make for it. I know you guys are excited about how much of the show is left, but the reality is that it's actually not as much as you would assume. The most recent manga chapter is 1176, the beginning of the time-skip starts at chapter 598. That means that the time-skip is actually a bit more than halfway through what is in the manga currently. Oda's pace started slowing down a long time ago so Toei really had to start drawing out their episodes in order to maintain a certain distance behind the manga. The anime is also just finished the previous arc, while the manga is probably close to the halfway point of the newest arc too. All this to say that the pacing will be abysmal at times - think of thriller bark but worse. I literally stopped watching the anime a few arcs ahead bc it was so ridiculous. I'll keep watching it with you guys regardless, but I just want to share this information.

Yes, I agree! It’s a lil annoying how people are bringing up “that’s not what Oda intended tho” If anything, I think it’s a miss that he didn’t originally draw them that way. That’s one of few criticisms I have, I think the anime pre timeskip design regarding their melanin is wayy better. Still love how the crew looks in post timeskip, it’s just I prefer the older designs. Like you said, it adds more depth to the crew

Weekly would make it worse for sure. One of my biggest gripes about the anime is how things are over drawn out. For instance, the main fight on WCI has a bunch of filler scenes repeating the same stuff we've already seen just to fill time, and that fight is already long in the manga lol. I still love OP tho

@Kurofi I just think it's a bad way to reintroduce two characters who are: supposed to be really close, have abilities that allow them to tell people apart individually, and have supposedly gotten a lot stronger over the two years. I can't think of any other time Luffy and Chopper mistook someone other then in Enies Lobby, and back then it wasn't bad cos other straw hats recognised Ussop. With this it feels disappointing, because the first time we see Luffy and Chopper isn't with the real crew, it's with the most obvious fakers of all time, treating them like actual straw hats. I think it undermines the progress they made in the timeskip by reintroducing them this way.

It seems more like something you use actively rather than passively (at least at the basic level we were told Luffy trained to) just like how one chooses to use armament or conqueror’s.

It’s understandable that it went over your head or forgot abt that one aspect regarding to observation Haki. Also good call on Cannon to bring up Asa as an example of being able to know a specific person’s presence by using observation Haki and connect that to Luffy. That definitely was mentioned also during the training episode with Rayleigh too

@Grae I know what you mean and get where you’re coming from. I always have expected Oda to write in this type of gag across the whole story and before serious parts. I think all of the big 3 tend to do this actually (some more than others of course). I personally feel like Luffy and Chopper would be this stupid regardless of how much they’ve improved in other areas. It’s just part of their “charm” and this whole thing was written to bring everyone back in a fun way which I guess didn’t land for some. I’ve always enjoyed the “haha” moments in this show and this was one of my faves. A moment where I don’t think I should apply “logic” because it's not meant to "make sense". Sure, Luffy could use his obs haki to confirm that it's them but why would he do that when he's not in any threat? Same with Chopper, he could use his nose but he did mention that he thought fake Robin smelled different. And you said it yourself, the rest of the crew recognized ussop when he was dressed as sogeking, except for chopper and luffy, so it made sense that they sorta fell victim to their disguises lol. I totally get what you're saying tho. It can be too silly when you have different expectations and you're anticipating growth on different levels. Thanks for sharing.

one piece is my favorite anime and post ts is gold... but the upcoming arc/s are the hardest to watch. I dropped it in these parts and ik a lot of ppl who dropped it and felt things had changed too much. Especially with the emphasis on "fan service" it makes it seem like oda might have bastardized his previously very well written female characters. Their designs leave a lot to be desired and create some ludonarrative dissonance imo. But thankfully hopefully you will also realize that the story and character depth and world building hasnt cut any corners even though things look different now. But I hope you guys consider using One Pace from now on, because it cuts down on the "hard to watch" parts and makes things more enjoyable and lets the story be told the way it was meant to be.

The remaster removes manga scenes so it doesnt just remove filler but parts of the story too. Its great for rewatches and stuff but i wouldnt rec it for the geks. Not 100% about the way the remaster did only the return to sabaody portion maybe that one is manga accurate! (lemme know if it is) I know the FMI remaster is lacking tho

I think people watched the geks watch one piece and noticed that they dont like the current "Edge Piece." Older arcs they disliked were the ones with the most anime only scenes and bad pacing. One then concludes that there is a correlation. If we add these two findings together we can deduce that wanting One Pace for post time skip is a reasonable ask. Jokes aside tho we all know how shit the pacing will be very shortly so its not bad to wonder if they will go with the version they will enjoy less or not? One Piece was good before one pace thats true, the manga exists!
