35:35 — This reveal is showing is that all these years Gwan-sik has been blaming himself, not that he’s been blaming the chief. When he says “I shouldn’t have gone to build the retaining wall,” it shows how he bottled up his guilt as Steelheart does. Him telling Ae-sun that “nobody in our family is to blame” was just him trying to comfort her than what he truly believes. In reality, everyone in the family blames themself. And despite what he says, he does too. Also I think he volunteered to go help build the wall.

I’m really glad you guys ended up reacting to this the way I initially expected rather than how some people were making it seem like you would. This episode is heartbreaking, but not in a cheap or gratuitous way. It’s just deeply human. This show never turns tragedy into shock value, and it still stays true to its message about life continuing, grief lingering, and people still finding love and small joys anyway. That’s why I’m glad you guys could still smile at the end and appreciate the quality of the episode, because it’s so good. It’s the most tragic the show gets, but it’s also one of the most important because it haunts the rest of the story in such a meaningful way. And imo that’s why it feels and hits so different from something also tragic like Bloodhounds ep 6, which was WAY more brutal and shock-driven. This was painful, but real. Also 10/10 writing and acting.

I really appreciate how this show doesn't use this tragic death for shock value but more so as a vessel so show the trials and tribulations of life and how to overcome them. Like this isn't something can be forgotten or you can 'move on' from in an episode or 2, it sticks for a lifetime. The people you love and the community can support you through the tough times, like they portray in the show. also the acting on this show is always amazing ❤️‍🩹

Hi guys, I'm here! I'm late again sorry I wasn't feeling good yesterday so I slept lol. But yaaay I'm ready tp start the next episode of this beautiful and emotionally driven show. It's an absolute masterpiece. Well maybe not so ready.... But oh well 😭 Damn this episode was incredibly painful to watch.... However, it's completely realistic in such a tragic scenario where you fighting against the odds of misfortune from every angle. Therefore, something is bound to go awry sooner or later. You just don't know when that moment will be. Goodness, I can't imagine the guilt of losing a child and then remembering how you didn't take time to show him affection when he was craving for it the most. He was just a little kid and feeling helpess even though, he did wrong. All he wanted was to be nurtured. Poor Ae-sun... Wounds like that times time to heal. She loved Dong-myeong dearly but couldn't help but get distracted by focusing on his misbehavior at given time. So, naturally she was trying to discipline him first so he would know not to do it in the future. Little did she know, that future would be yanked right from under her arms in a blink of an eye. My heart hurts for Ae-sun and Gwan-sik... It would be even harder when you have other kids to look out for. So like Cannon said, "You don't have time to mourn but continue to stay strong for their other children's sake. Because you're their mother and they need you. Also, I love how you all always keeps things in perspective and tries to always reason and analyze the situation at hand no matter what it is. It makes sense this would hit Carter harder with him being a father now. And poor Jack and McKay are still scarred from the past k-traumas. I can understand why they would have some trust issues. When things are seemingly all too happy in a drama, that's the moment when something is hiding down in the depths of all the shadows...

You can feel the devastation in Gwan-sik's cries and his body trembling completely defeated after witnessing such a tragic horrible thing. His emotions felt so raw. And Ae-sun being in shock is only natural where her mind is in denial and isn't ready to accept it yet because it doesn't feel real at all...

From what the comments were alluding to last ep i knew i had watch this by myself but this was so heartbreaking 😭 the depiction of grief from Ae-sun and Gwan-sik was so realistic and the fact that they could only mourn for 3 days but life goes on. The conversation between Aunty and Ae-sun is what got me the most...

Ae-sun’s mother was such a strong willed lady with a courageous soul. I get even more emotional during her flashbacks. It’s crazy all the things she told her daughter years ago are being put to the test in the present. All the foreshadowing and metaphors are brilliant in this show. It’s told so vividly and beautifully in such a poignant tale.

So, I often get a lot of setbacks from random loud to moderate noise from everyday objects/places. It can cause a lot of pain and make my anxiety and depression worse. I try to stay strong and not let get to me. However many days, I struggle to keep it together and just want to give up. Sorry to weigh you down with all this. I just feel scared and alone. The elderly neighbors are the best. They are so freaking sweet sneaking in rice when Ae-sun wasn't looking to ensure she and her family are well fed. It made my heart feel warm. Goated couple indeed!!! Then the whole village chipping in to bring food is such a good powerful message of unity. I'm glad they won't go hungry now. They have a huge support system who love and care about them 🥰

A little clarification on where everyone is in the show right now, because it is slightly confusing, as they go back and forth a lot in this and in some future episodes! Aesun, Gwansik, and the brother Eun myeong all still live on Jeju Island in the family home. Geum myeong got into SNU which is a prestigious college in Seoul so she, in this episode, is currently living there. Aesun and Gwansik while walking the streets talk about how it she must be lying about how expensive it is to rent out there. And that shes living on a higher level which would be more money than a cheap half-basement apartment. They also mention that they have been selling a lot of their things to help raise money for her in college. And Aesun thinks about selling the cabbage field from her childhood, Gwansik tells her no because that is the only thing in the family actually titled to her name. They also did not sell the boat as a heads up! Gwansik needs to make money for the fmaily somehow We did see in one of the last episodes (where she yelled at Aesun about growing up poor), that she does live in an apartment that's not in the best condition (she struggled to close the window) Eun myeong is just kinda assumed to be at home and going to school while Aesun and Gwansik take Geum to her admission day. We did see him in the future at the same time we met Geum myeon, he just kinda gets overshadowed by the Aunt in the scene haha

I think the line/dialogue that struck me the most in this episode was when Ae-sun's mother said people living on land want to die as soon as they face something difficult. But haenyeo's face death every day diving, so they think of a million reasons to live. It really changes your perspective on living, it's very easy to want to die and leave everything behind when facing something hard, we have to live knowing there are a million reasons to be thankful for the lives we have.

I've been an OG studio gek fan since your attack on titan reactions haha! I'm so glad you're enjoying this show. I bet you have a lineup of other reactions lined up but I just wanted to comment some recommendations that I know all of you would like based on your likes so far. For cinema gek, future kdramas I think you'd like are: *TWINKLING WATERMELON:* This is an excellent next watch, especially after this emotionally charged series. It's light, funny, interesting and has a great plot line. The first episode might be a bit confusing but it gets really really good from episode 2. It's a slice of life slash time travel plot, with disability rep, great music, action, mystery and a romance subplot. It has Weak Hero baku and suho's actors starring as the main characters, and it really focuses on the relationship between a son and father, and the plot is adjacent to back to the future vibes! *STUDY GROUP:* This is a total crack kdrama. It's focused on action and friendship. It has really out of this world overpowered action sequences, which almost seem supernatural because of how unrealistic they are but that's what makes it HILARIOUS. Think of this like Weak Hero class, if there was no angst. This would also be a great next watch coming down from something like When Life gives you tangerines. I think you'd be just laughing at how wholesome and silly the main characters are in this! For cinema gek, Bollywood reactions: *ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA:* Roughly translates to "You won't get to live twice", I think this is a great watch considering your last Bollywood reaction was Dhurandhar which was so bloody and gory. ZNMD is a movie centred around three friends who go to Europe on a life changing Bachelors trip. It has AMAZING humor, a great plot line for each friend, a romance subplot but it's mostly focused on self discovery and the trio's friendship. It's a REALLY FUN watch, and one of the most popular and beloved Bollywood movies out there. For K-POP gek, I think it's high time you check out some popular titles by *IU* who is the actress playing both Ae-sun and Geum-young. She's crazyyyyy talented in acting, and also a fabulous K-pop artist, with one of the most consistently successful and large discography in the scene. Would HIGHLY recommend her as the next watch for that channel! I want to do a shameless plug and also request *Stray Kids* - I think you'd guys would enjoy their recent music videos titled DO IT and DIVINE (both have music videos!). I personally also love the bsides DOMINO, VENOM, and FREEZE (all of these have super cool music videos). I would be soooo happy if you could react to that too hehe❤
