Jeff

Doesn't everyone that likes anime know this show? 😂

Elio (ichigo’s boyfriend)

Yeah it’s popular but not on the level of JJK or Demon Slayer. That’s why I call it “hidden” cuz it deserves way more attention!! + there’s a new season out now! I watched the first season back in 2019, It’s soooo goooood!

If you go back to watch Frei's backstory he said the exact same words his uncle said before killing his father "I am giving you time, time to understand your own shallowness. Time to experience despair. And finally time to repent"

na

that hood Draka gives the knight dude in the beginning was her second most cherished possession behind the coins. It was the other thing she had from her father.

na

boys buckle up for the home stretch. that's all im gonna say

AvaRISE

On rewatch I really appreciate this show's understated score.

nocomprendo

i love the twist that that backstory was not Schmidt's, but Frei's. Even on a rewatch it took me by surprise, i totally forgot about it. also YOU HAVE TO WATCH 100 METERS. MOVIE BY THE AUTHOR OF ORB WITH INSANE ANIMATION

Miitei

I kind of forgot how much Draka and Schmidt developed as characters, the coin flip scene got me emotional and everything lol I think I under appreciated them on my first watch because I binged the last 10 or so episodes and didn't pay enough attention 🫠

Jack

Yeah dang, she has changed so quickly!

This is Daniel

Draka sacrificed her father's belongings in this episode (shawl and coins). This was essentially the passing of the torch, i.e. Draka forming her own convictions beyond just raising money. I'll admit that on my first watch, this arc felt toned down by comparison to Oczy's arc. That said, this rewatch has been super satisfying 😊

joursh

this is definitely one of those episodes/scenes i appreciate more on a rewatch. it's hard to take in all the parallels and dynamics that are thrown at you the first time you watch. some big examples would be draka giving up the objects of her conviction; the cloak from her dad and also the bloodied coins both within the same episode, to FURTHER pursue her conviction/also for the sake of jolenta's memory (becoming jolenta's heart). frei's adopted convictions against schmidt's original convictions, and the final coin scene signifying the turning point for both draka and schmidt. also, frei said the same thing to schmidt that his uncle had said to his dad when he killed him, but in opposing positions (frei was the one dying instead of schmidt) "I am giving you time, time to understand your own shallowness. Time to experience despair. And finally time to repent". and my favorite part of the episode BY FAR, is the character development and dynamic of both draka and schmidt. in episode 18, we see their characters and ideologies clash, with draka not believing in a god, and schmidt stating that being a slave to god/fate is better than human pride and conceit. he also said that he places no trust in the intellect of people, and believes that no human life should take priority over what god has determined/ordained. the argument ended up at a stalemate, in which schmidt proposed a coin flip to determine who was right, heads for schmidt, tails for draka. it happened to land on heads, which led draka to say "What's your point? I never agreed to accept the result. In the first place, I don't leave such things to chance," which leads so well into her character development in that coin scene. draka, of ALL people, proposed the idea of gambling everyone's life on the line, and then was prepared to decide the stalemate with a coin flip, both things that are HEAVILY influenced by luck and chance. she let god decide her fate for her, which she had never done before, and allowed room for a second conviction to back her actions. schmidt, of ALL people, flipped the coin. he decided to go against everything he had said, and turned back on his statement that being a slave to god was a better alternative to human pride, conceit, and intellect. flipping the coin was the first time he had run contrary to fate, and had "saved" a human life (draka's), which served as another foil considering his previous statement; "No human life should take priority over what God has determined." ^^ just a few things i noticed on my rewatch that elevated my experience, you're definitely not meant to see this or connect those dots on your first watchthrough

Sari-chan

Orb always create this sense of urgency and intensity even without any action scene. Every moment has its importance and it makes me care about their cause so so much! I want to thank all of you who voted for this show and the Geks to share this with us.

Sari-chan

Yes she shifted what was important to her to a cause bigger than herself!

Sari-chan

It is my first watch, but I really appreciate not binging the show! I need time between episodes to let things settle, get the most out of each of them.

Sari-chan

Yes! Almost forgot that we still did not know whose backstory it was! Also loved "100 m" but I would like to see "Run with the wind". Only heard great things about it!

Ninaly

Nano demo!!

Ninaly

I love him as much as all my other favs on this rewatch, the cast is just too good

Ninaly

The first time I saw this I recognized those lines and had big deja vu but couldn't remember from where, and that made it so chilling!

Ninaly

Wow good detail

Ninaly

Along with the iconic OP/ED, this show's music gets way too overshadowed from its own writing haha

Ninaly

I love how it wouldn't even make sense that it would be Schmidt's backstory, because why would that kid also turn against the church like his murderous uncle? But we are trained to expect certain things from media, so you don't even realize it's an assumption until the show hits you in the head with it

Ninaly

The third timeskip only better with time for me, I think it's the best written in terms of character, plot and themes now!

Ninaly

goated comment. i love your draka quote i think a lot of people don't give enough props to the third timeskip because their affection meter had already been filled up with all the amazing main characters/stories that happened before then. but the rewatch value goes crazy and is actually a different experience

Nashi

This arc is so much better though!

Nashi

Guys you should watch the anime movie Sword of Stranger. It’s one I feel yall will really like and it has probably the best sword fight of all time

Nashi

Oh the geks and everyone else should DEFINITELY watch Run with the Wind. Such a great show, they would love it

joursh

yess i totally agree! they're also a lot more subtle than the other groups. i also overlooked the third timeskips characters a lot on my first and second watches🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

LuvStarburst

After a night out at the bar, this is the perfect way to end my night. Plus I grabbed some Mickey D's, 20-piece chicken nuggies and fries with a Coke. Such a great way to end my night.

Vallll

My girl Jolenta really inspired her.

Vallll

The mangaka actually studied philosophy before dropping out of college. That’s why his works tend to be philosophical. You might have noticed how the characters in Orb like to quote philosophers.

Vextipher

When I heard Frei say those words I was shook lol It came to me right then he was the kid and was such a good payoff and sense for his character to be holding hatred all this time. Thinking Schmidt was the kid was a nice subversion. Was hoping more reaction to realization but it is what is. Also +1 Jack on characters getting out of this place lol

T.Yaseen

Ofc there's always a rat to ruin everything...

Sari-chan

Let's campaign! 😆

All might

I like that we got Frei's backstory beforehand and it was kind of up in the air before they revealed who it was because it was easier to sympathize with him

DonDuh103

They never get away when we really want them too

DonDuh103

Frei's be like RAT ATTACK! RAT ATTACK! RAT ATTACK!!!!!!!

DonDuh103

Also, it's really awesome to see how they all have such different prospective but spending a little time with each other changes them were there putting their goal second to their own to help the others conviction.

King Abu

I might be late from the discussion already, but I want to point out one thing when Drakka suggested to publish the book under Jolenta's name. She unknowingly fulfilled Jolenta's dream when she was younger, to publish a treatise (in this case a book), under her name 😊
