Ok so for context: they only forgot memories about their names. Literally just that, they remember everything else about their lives before the circus besides specifically that. (Caine only said “Nobody can remember their names,” he didn’t say they can’t remember anything at all.) The only exception is Kinger, who struggles with memory because of his insanity (Jax said that Kinger has supposedly been there the longest and Kinger says that the darkness grounds him to a single memory)

I can easily tell that gangle has bipolar disorder, it was depicted kind of perfectly through out the ep ngl, the moodswings, how she’s motivated/determined to do something and make it work, but then she easily loses that peak of energy and gets depressed. Her character might be the saddest so far😭 I’m so sad about the gummigoo and pomni interaction😭 I wonder if Caine told him something, cause it seems like he remembers her, he hesitated right at the end when she came back to talk to him. Can’t believe I didn’t see much of my goat kinger in this one😔 and they gave us gummigoo back but at what cost💔

I wonder if jax is gonna be punished in the future, he’s the only one with like an actual bad attitude, he acts like he hates being here so he needs to make everyone suffer with him lol. He’s hilarious tho

Its so interesting how people interpret Gangle’s masking in this episode bc its a toss up of people saying its either bipolar or autism I dont think the creator has confirmed anything either so it truly is up to the viewer i believe

The line from Jax, "I guess you're never getting that unicorn horn, Pomni," is in reference to an earlier pre-show concept where she did actually have a unicorn horn and the catchphrase, "Well, it's possible..." And when Ragatha is going on about, "-packages landing on my head, tea parties, dancing lessons," it's a direct quote from the song "No Girl's Toy" in Raggedy Ann, which Ragatha is based off of.

Gangle's design is, as Carter said, probably the most on the nose when it comes to her masking emotions with literal masks. Her masks don't literally determine her mood, as Caine said he can't control any human in the digital world, and we can see her smiling with her tragedy mask in this episode. It's for sure more used as an allegory for her ongoing mental health struggles, as we can see with Jax shattering her comedy mask and usually bullying her throughout the episodes; the comedy mask regenerates every episode as she has had time to recuperate (probably away from Jax). The 'happy' mask is the work mask which is made out of plastic (more durable) to match her authority, working as being the shift manager was probably the only thing she had control over in real life. (TW: Self harm) In my opinion, her body could mean one of two things: either it represents how stretched thin she is to the point of manifesting as fabric, or a metaphor for potential self harm before coming to the circus, red ribbons being cut are usually symbolic of a new beginning.

I don’t know much about autism, but I know a lot about BD haha, I said it confidently cause she basically checked all the boxes through out the episode, and what gives it giveaway is her saying she’s having a manic episode (min 8:26), which is normally a sign of bipolar disorder. Thanks for the insight!! I didn’t know you can associate aspects of her characterization with autism too

Just wanted to say that on yesterday's rush hour train (live in Tokyo btw), I was packed into the train next to some Japanese salaryman who was watching Studio Gek reactions but in Japanese. Blew my mind, idk if you guys have a Japanese channel, but this was a full Japanese version with animated captions and everything of just Studio Gek. It would be one thing to run into someone in the US or something, but in Japan... blew my mind

It rlly is interesting how people do different interpretations bc i was getting depression, but that could also be a comorbidity to bipolar/autism. I kinda thought the mask was similar to antidepressants, but one that doesn't match well with Gangle

I really enjoyed the tone of this episode, loved seeing more of the interpersonal relationships, and how things are open to interpretation. Seems like there's more foreshadowing and idk, this episode felt emotionally grounding without being boring. Plus, Gangle and Zooble, King and Pomni, two episodes with great duos... Also, Jax would totally be the coworker to go to the bathroom for 20 minutes during a rush

(To beanie) Funny enough, its vice versa for me where i dont know that much abt BD but being on the spectrum, i know a lot about autism. The masking felt so familiar where you try and copy how the others act—i took her manic episode line to try and be a jokester like Jax—as with autism you tend to mimic those around. Smiling, trying to be the ‘normal’ shift manager and then going outside to scream because the masking DRAINS you. You feel like a shell of yourself, constantly doing a performance while also doing the tasks of everyday life. This episode hit a certain spot for me lol, as im sure it did for you :0 i love that gangle represents so much to so many people (To rebecca) honestly the antidepressants thing also feels like a good read bc ive had a similar experience with my antidepressants.

I love reading different understandings of characters, and adding to what you said, gangle being so relatable to different groups of people is just proof of how well written she is, this show has many beautiful characters so far, I’m pleasantly surprised!! @rebecca that’s such an interesting interpretation, it also makes sense in a way
