Tbh I binged and didn't rlly love this arc my first watch too (I reread the manga tho which was better). Buttt I am surprised that there isn't more rewatchers. I've noticed how I missed quite a few things the first time

For me, One Piece fights are typically one of the less interesting things about One Piece. Obviously we have seen some cool fights so far such as Luffy vs Lucci, and there are some really amazing fights to come, but overall I feel like the fighting is not what I consume One Piece for. That coupled with the pacing makes parts of this arc difficult to rewatch. I love the backstory and the end of this arc but not so much the drawn out fights and the lingering on Hordy and co. I'd rather see the Straw Hats goofing off with each other, like in pre-time skip.

Unfortunately the Hody fight is the start of a trend, where the anime just abandons the manga to extend fights, solely to pad time despite completely undermining the story and power scaling. 95% of the Hody fight in these reactions is just bad filler which is frustrating to watch. Glad Toei has now broadly changed.

One piece had some of the lowest/tightest anime budgets during most of it's run (mainly due to it being a weekly anime). About 15 years ago when FI came out, the top anime's of that season would have roughly 3x the budget that One Piece had per episode (ie. Hunter x Hunter, Steins Gate, Fate Zero). In later arcs, there was a shift/series director who changed OP forever, helping to make modern OP budgets closer to other similar running anime's (more on him once u get there). Due to this, they built a strong team/better system and have rotating episode directors who usually team up with certain animators. In modern OP, if you notice the details, you'll be able to see the distinct different styles per episode/scene of these top animators/directors. The episode director of Fan Letter likes to work with the animator that has a very fluid/abstract style. I'm excited to see if you notice when it's her directing an episode in modern OP!

Robin's I want to live episode): Konosuke Uda (The OG who built the tone of the series - Water 7 to Sabaody: Munehisa Sakai - Sabaody to Fishman Island: Hiroaki Miyamoto During fishman Island apparently the team rlly struggled with budget and a lack of animators (they shared animators with other series and Toei prioritized DBZ). Since then they realized they needed a clearer/better system.

Having to see the anime add another red hawk, completely undermining the original and then having Hody 'Clash' his water shark with Luffy's Elephant Gun. Instead of what's supposed to happen with Luffy effortlessly dodge his sharks then one shots Hody, is sooooooo frustrating. The whole point of the arc is that the timeskip made what would of been a near impossible fight for the straw hats effortless. What's worse is this is just the start of this trend.

I think its fair to prefer toei piece more than pace. I just think if its an arc you ALREADY dont like, then its completely fine for them to do it paced. Also one pace isnt that bad, people act like you get sent to hell for it or for watching toei piece. Its all up to how you want the experience. If they want to get past FMI faster its better to use the pace.

McKay I think when people talk about pre timeskip vibes, they’re actually talking about the story content and writing. 1 major complaint of the post timeskip for fans is that there isn’t a lot of chill crew bonding time on the ship and that too much of the arcs are filled with seriousness. So there’s literally no concern of capsulating pts vibes when remaking it because the story itself is the vibes, not the animation or visual style.

The new seasonal format doesn’t improve pacing, it has a max 1 chapter per ep ratio. Since around thriller bark up until now the ratio flacuated between like .7-1.5 chapter per ep. But now seasonal just keeps it at a consistent 1 chapter per ep, which flows better.

If you like OG then by all means just watch that, but it's pretty frustrating in the OP community when the biggest complaint from someone is pacing and then people advocating for One Pace get shut down. Imo people are oversensitive to the cuts (admittedly some are pretty jarring), but a lot of the time I feel it's fine for the viewer to fill the gap between scenes. It may not be perfect but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

Nah, ruins the tension and flow of scenes. Dressrosa is RUINED in my eyes with One Pace, no holding out of scenes for suspense either. It completely wrecks the emotions and vibes of everything going on. All they do is make it Exactly like the manga which doesn't work if you don't have scenes or holdouts/pans in between the panels, but One Pace removes ALL of them which Fucks it up.

Okay let me phrase it better. Toei’s new seasonal change to one piece hasn’t increased the amount of content adapted for it feel like more is happening in a certain incremental lot of episodes as Carter suggested. The difference between the amount of content adapted in future and past lots of eps will be a few pages or chapters at most depending on the lot size you use to measure. So if in current episodes it feels like more is happening it’s oda making each chapter more eventful, not toei adapting more.
