Sex scene was definitely rushed on purpose to show Shinichi's weaknesses and flaws. He even himself says that "his true nature is showing" that he's "kind of pathetic", has "lived by stepping on those around him" and he has no right to call migi cold-blooded considering what he's doing now. Author definitely did this on purpose. Terrible pacing of the relationship is intentional. Bro is making rash decisions when he fears for his life; he's saying and doing things he shouldn't. We SHOULD be disappointed in Shinichi

Hey, I'm glad they at least hooked up. A lot of anime would take about 100 episodes for them to just hold hands. Also, I don't think it was suppose to be romantic. I think it was meant to be rushed and awkward instead of a crescendo of their undying love. These two teenagers going through a bunch of traumatic events while also coming of age, they don't know how to communicate with each other so they comfort through physical action.

I think the Shinichi x Murano development was a bit rushed to fit everything into the episode, but it's been brewing for a long time and they had been shown to be on good terms again (and closer than before). Shinichi's clearly had a crush on Murano since the start of the show and she has had feelings for him as well, if you recall how they were acting around eachother before Migi merged with his heart. When Parasites would invade or threaten his school his thoughts and worries would always turn to Murano and keeping her safe (even after the Migi heart merge). It took some time for her to adjust to his new personality, which is why we got some awkward/bad interactions here and there, but it showed them getting close again after Tamura Reiko's death, as he could finally process his own mother's death and open himself up to his own feelings again. Before the military operation against Goto and the Mayor began we saw Shinchi and Murano being close again at school. Murano was walking with Shinichi arm-locked and leaning into him as couples do. They were likely more than friends at this point, it's just a shame we as viewers didn't get to see more of that before Murano invited him to her place, and the scene at her place was also rushed. One can speculate at her intentions - possibly she noticed he was hurting and she wanted to be there for him, and had probably wanted to escalate their relationship for a while. Her intuition has been shown to be good in the show, so perhaps she had an inkling he might disappear on her again, and she wanted to be with him before that. In the end I think one can fill in the gaps as one wishes, but aside from it being a bit rushed in the episode I don't think it was too out of nowhere or too out of place. It also served to strengthen Shinichi's resolve to live before his confrontation with Goto.

gotou was an inspiration for the royal guard youpi (the most underrated character in HxH), and i remember on my first watch how hopeless the situation felt, shinichi was struggling to even eat with his left arm, how can he ever face this demon 😥

the reaction to the hookup is reminding me a lot of you guys' reactions to a certain reunion in S2 of Vinland, I think it's just another case of expecting something to go a certain way when the writer wasn't that caught up on that aspect of their story, and just like back then I think it's more than ok to have your qualms with how a story was written but that's why I prefer not to have expectations like that and instead just go with the flow of a story and try to understand it in the way the author chose to portray it, again it's perfectly fine not to think like that, we all take in these shows differently and I think all these different perspectives is exactly what authors want people to get out of their stories!

I feel like the point of the sex scene was supposed to be that up until this point, Shinichi has been unable to commit to things out fear. He never came out and told everyone about his parasite because he was afraid what would happen to him, and he kept Murano at an arms length even though he likes her a lot because he's afraid to hurt her. In this episode, knowing he will have to confront Goto and put his life on the line, I think he has to get everything off his chest with Murano first. He probably could have hooked up with her at any point before this, and he loved her the whole time and only now he can say it. He's wanted to live and protect humanity the whole time, but only now is he going to fight Goto for everyone's sake, and his own. I always took it as he chose in this moment to live according to his actual beliefs and desires, and to do what it takes to achieve them. I found it kind of life affirming, even if the pacing of it is definitely flawed.

Youpi, one of the chimera ant royal guards of Mereum in HxH, was 100% inspired by Goto here.
