Jotaro won't stop time unless he has to. Timestop killed Kakyoin and almost killed Joseph. He hasn't touched that ability since 12 years ago due to mild PTSD.

It's not that Jotaro can't pump his heart, but in the world of jojos, once a soul leaves their body, they are dead. Josuke can restore the bodies of people, but he can't ressurect their souls. It gives the part real stakes because he can heal people, but he can't heal himself or bring the dead back to life. And the reason why Jotaro was technically medically able to do what he did is the the brain can function up to an hour after death, meaning that if you restore his blood that he lost(causing him to die in the first place) he could come back to life, but there would be numerous health risks

Carter the reason why the manga took so long for steel ball run is because they decided to go from weekly to monthly chapter drops. But each chapter is way longer like 40-50 pages and much more detailed artwork. It also allowed araki to cook on the story and switch things up.

Also, the reason Jotaro feels so "nerfed" is because he's out of practice, they explained that the time stop is like working out a muscle, the more you do it, the better you get. He implied last episode that he hasn't used the time stop in a very long time, just wanted to let y'all know for context you might've missed😀

3:00 True, that is crazy. SBR is also when JoJo shifted from shonen to seinen and moved from a weekly to a monthly manga. So it got more time, but the chapters also became way longer. So even tho its "only" 95 chapters, it is still very long in pages and the second-longest part after Part 8.

Another heads up about this but most of the stands in this part and beyond have copyright names in the subs including Josuke’s . So to know their real names you’ll have to carefully listen to what they say or look them up. They are all based on songs, artists, or albums.

Jotaro is intentionally nerfed, to focus the spotlight on josuke and his crew. They even say he’s been focused on his biologist research so he didn’t focus on fighting after dio. If jotaro used the world he would easily solve the conflict And there wouldn’t be no story at all.

Yeah Jotaro being nerfed is a really cool way of dealing with power creep following part 3 imo. So many anime series have the problem where the next batch of villains in an arc all have to be stronger than the previous big boss in order to make sense. Imagine how lame it would be if every single villain the part 4 cast came across was as strong as Prime DIO/Jotaro? Instead we have the case where the villains are clearly powerful than DIO was but they still pose just as much of a threat to Jotaro and Josuke and the rest of the part 4 cast because Jotaro isn't at his prime abilities anymore because he didn't have to train or push himself over the past 10 years. Its just like bodybuilding and working out. Its like Jotaro went from playing in the NFL to not even working out or training other than the odd pickup game for 10 years. He wouldn't be anywhere near his previous physical form. I know it can suck a bit to see him weaker but it just means the cast have to keep being creative when dealing with problems and when he does use time stop it can still feel special but not a one trick problem solver everytime. Plus it still shows how DIO was an ultimate menace and not immediately overshadowed

Araki making Josuke a healer who 1) can't just undo death and 2) can't heal himself puts a very different dynamic on the story As long as wounds are survivable or get healed quickly enough, everyone's fine It also means that Araki can get VERY brutal with what he does to characters - no "Kakyoin got punched through, but it's not gratuitous." No, Josuke makes multiple people's guts explode in full view.

Dio could spam time stop cause he was a vampire, it is physically taxing to use that ability and also Jotaro didn't face any danger near to the level of Dio, thats why he doesn't use time stop. In the fight with Dio, Jotaro was pushed to his limit and because of that he was at his peak, Jotaro is a tactical guy he doesn't flaunt his powers, he will always assess the situation and act according to it, If he just spammed time stop for everything it would be so boring.

Josuke's grandfather had major damage to his internal organs and immediately died. Josuke was able to repair the organs but it was already to late because as Jotaro said, his soul left his body. And I know what youre going to say, "Then how did Joseph survive? We saw his soul leave his body." Well, Joseph's situation is different. Due to the amount of blood loss, he was considered "clinical dead" during this point his heart, breathing and brain function stopped. Clinical death is reversible, if you have the equipment and not enough time has passed. The fight was short, so Jotaro was able to forcefully resuscitate Joseph's heart with his stand while having a blood transfusion. I think Joseph's soul ascension was really just to trick the readers/viewers into believing he died. Realistically and medically speaking, Joseph should have died due to the amount time that passed. His brain was completely derived from oxygen for multiple minutes and he had extensive blood loss. But this is anime and the rules are arbitrary. Also I wanted to add that, yes Jotaro is a bit nerfed due to him not training and using Star Platinum as much in the past 10 years. But Jotaro is also much smarter, more experienced, and a lot more analytical and strategic than ever. In Part 3, he was an angsty hot headed teenager. So yeah you could say that Jotaro should be able to easily pack literally anyone up due to his op stand powers, but he isnt the protagonist anymore, it wouldnt be interesting or fun if all the problems were solved instantly.

Dude I recently checked out this other reactor, Otaku Steph's, reaction to Part 4 of JoJos and her subs are REALLY good. Not only that but the sound effects on screen have the English translation seamlessly included perfectly matching the design of the animation. I'm trying to find out where she's watching so I can use it to put my sister onto JoJos. I'd also love to recommend it to the Geks. Those subs are really good, not only uncensored stand names but also in general the subs seem a lot better written. A lot more F bombs too lol

Important detail with Joseph was that the whole fight was taking place in stopped time, it may have felt like a while had passed but in reality he only had his blood taken for a min or 2 at most, plus had the Hamon longevity. Also just narratively they are establishing his stands limits, he can heal people but there is a limit to it, and if someone dies he can’t just bring them back

(Jonathan and his overly gentleman-ness which is a flaw because it allowed Dio to continue on, Joseph and his cheating, josuke who gets overly upset about his hair, etc... won't keep going because of spoilers). In interviews, Araki said he struggled big time with mental fatigue and depression during the production of Part 5 to 6 (which is why the story lines get incredibly dark) He switched to a monthly seinen magazine called Ultra Jump for Part 7 (and onwards) so he wouldn't have to deal with physical exhaustion from publising weekly with Shonen Jump Part 7 feels so much different because of this

Please just watch the intros and outros. They are such a core part of JoJo. If you see a character you don't know, it doesn't matter. "Oh who's this?" is not worth skipping them until the end.

I will add, part 4 especially has a lot of intros and changes within multiple. If you don't watch the early ones you won't appreciate the changes. Off the top of my head Hunter x Hunter is the only recent anime I can think of that had massive story spoilers in one of the latter openings. JoJo for the most part is safe because they assume you're watching them (to appreciate the changes when they happen).

part 4 is my second favorite part after part 7 and seeing you picking up on a lot of small details from the jump makes my morioh heart so happy you dont understand. you're already immersing yourselves so we're good to go! one comment though to help with overall enjoyment, dont get too hung up on jotaro being nerfed, it's not his part anyways and josuke is too goated you wont even mind. it's not like araki nerfed jotaro in order to make josuke shine out more, he can stand out on his own which is why i dont mind as much.

Jotaro is nerfed only in that he cant stop time for more than a few seconds. Alot of people fall into this trap of thinking Jotaro’s timestop is a broken unstoppable ability, but its really not. It just gives him an extra opportunity to move or hit opponents, but theres just stands his physical power wont work against, especially stands that dont rely on physical strength to be dangerous. Even if he stops time, Aqua Necklace is liquid and gas so his punches dont work and he cant grab him. He cant reform things so he cant trap him like Josuke did, and Josuke cant move in stopped time so he wont be any help. Stopping time will just waste Jotaro’s energy. Jotaro is smart so he knows this, playing it safe and trying to control the situation rather than overextend himself

About the grandpa dying. Guys there’s a big difference between Joseph having a few lacerations and losing his blood for like a few minutes and a stand going in someone’s body and tearing it to shreds. Joseph wasn’t dead yet, you can go without blood for 5+ minutes I believe. You can’t survive your insides just being torn to shreds. Starting the heart won’t fix that even tho Josuke healed his wounds cause he’s already dead. Basically Josuke just made him look better.

Joseph is a good guy and has shown to sacrifice himself for others but I don’t think this is such a 180 for her personality. It’s not my favorite thing but I could invision this type of behavior. I heavily disagree that this is “bad writing”. Writing that you don’t personally like isn’t bad. Bad would be if it just straight up made no sense or made the story worse. Which neither of those are the case.

Part 4 Ep 2 Commentary “Intense. That would be the best adjective to describe this episode. The animation director, Shunichi Ishimoto, is known for his distinctive dark lines, and here he is again at the start of part 4 to animate amazing close-ups of Angelo. The Stand, Aqua Necklace, has a nature to change, always halfway between water and some sort of flowing vapor, so animating the key frames for it was quite difficult. But it was well worth the effort as the final result nicely represents how dangerous this opponent is. I think our Aqua Necklace exudes a certain terror. It’s also in episode 2 that Josuke uses his “dorarara” for the first time and since we are at the beginning of the story, we also made him swear to protect the city in the first 15 minutes. That’s how we raise the stakes for Part 4 and set up the essential components. I think these first two episodes are wonderful, their structure making it so they link perfectly. The series director, Toshiyuki Kato, also in charge of directing this episode, managed to tie everything together. Personally, I would have done this: it’s raining, people are dying, then, once Angelo dies, the sky clears up. It's this kind of direction detail that I would have appreciated, though it would have been difficult. It reminded me how directing techniques can vary from person to person.” - Naokatsu Tsuda

I've been a defender of the 3 episodes a week schedule and no double drops when people have unrightfully complained about a lack of double uploads. I understand that you all are very busy with your upload schedule between your 3 different channels and by no means do I expect there to be extra uploads. However, I do feel that it is a bit frustrating when it comes to your Jojo's uploads on two fronts. 1) Jojo's is the only one of the shows you are watching on Studio Gek (not speaking about cinema Gek as I am not a Patron for that) that when it gets an "extra" upload, it is not actually extra and it ends up affecting a future upload. One Piece gets extra uploads every once in awhile (which is fine, since it's long af) but even Bleach gets extra episodes every once in awhile without it affected the uploads (not counting the contest it won a few weeks back). Ie, the end of the Soul Society arc and Ichigo vs. Grimmjow both getting a triple drop. I watch your Bleach reactions too, so I obviously enjoy the extra episodes over there. However, it can be a bit frustrating when Bleach can occasionally get 5 episodes in one week, while Jojo's is never allowed more than 3. 2) The lack of communication when it comes to whether or not the schedule has been affected can also be a bit frustrating. Having to find out in a Patreon comment, from a fellow Patron, about a comment that was made on Discord, can be a bit annoying. Either a comment should be left on Patreon on the upload that will affect the next upload, or a post should be made on Patreon so that way it is clear whether or not an upload will actually happen that day or not. Sorry for the essay, but I just wanted to point out some frustrations in a respectful way. I don't want to come across as rude, but it can be a bit frustrating since it has happened a few times within the past month. There wouldn't be any frustration if I didn't appreciate your reactions so much. Anyway, can't wait to continue Part 4 tomorrow and hope you all continue to enjoy it!

Yeah, there are 203 canon/mostly canon episodes in OG bleach, tybw bumps that up to about 250. Jojo's is at 190 without SBR, which will bump it up to about 230-240. Jojo's is not short by any means

It's crazy to have the reason for not doing an upload be that "we did a double drop this week," when the double drop happened explicitly because they only did 2 uploads last week.

Don't think that was why we got the double drop. They have only ever promised us 3 episodes in a week. How we get those 3 has been subject to change, like last week. A double drop Monday, and a single drop on Thursday. The issue is that they should communicate that we would not get an upload today due to that. The only time they have just not gotten us 3 episodes in a week was near the beginning of Part 3 and they were going to give us a double drop to make up for it, but we asked for it to be the Justice 2 parter instead, so they waited to do those together

I think some people are mistaken, they made a comment on Monday, last Sundays drop, that they were combining the next two drops on Tuesday, which they did, but they uploaded on Thursday regardless so it would make sense we'd miss a drop today. Don't get me wrong though I'm still upset there's this little communication when there's some confusion in the drop schedule this far into their career either. I thought it'd get better when they started doing Gek News, but that's seemingly on permanent hiatus too 🫠. I'm not saying you should bring it back, especially not at the time of the year you guys are the most busy, but we'd just like something on the actual platform people use to catch up with you guys.

I would say more frustration lies in the fact that it isn't a set back. It's a choice on their end to give us 3 episodes a week and saying that since they gave us a double drop, that we no longer get an upload yesterday. That's fine, it's their schedule, but it would be nice if that is communicated when we do get the double drop.

I really don't buy the "No stand can bring back the dead." thing, especially in this instance, because Josuke can heal his grandpa perfectly, which means any damage to his brain is also healed and, since his brain is free of any damage from oxygen deprivation or anything like that, pumping his heart should bring him back.
