Btw the content in episode 228 was in the manga. It was sort like a bonus mini chapter with only 4 pages, so the anime extended it by adding more contextual and other additional scenes. I mean technically its not filler. (End of vol 29 and end of chapter 260)

About potentially reading the manga- So as someone who rewatched OG bleach like 3 times, and didnt like manga all that much, and only after few years i decided to actually read the manga, i can say the manga is like x10 better. The art is amazing, the pacing is obviously better, and there is something unique with Tite Kubo's art that you just cannot replicate or translate into Anime. even if you do it 1-1, the Black and White art is 99% of the time superior.

They didn’t announce filler, like you said you’d just tune in and find out. They did the same with Naruto during the final war, watching week to week then at some point it just became filler and every once in a while I’d pop in to see if it was over (it wasn’t). Dropped the show for a year cause it was all filler until they finally were back to the actual content

Carter: Good choice to pick Bleach as a manga to collect. I don’t think you can get the colored versions physically, but I would say this is the perfect series to NOT get in color. The color ones are neat, but Kubo drew Bleach specifically with those strong contrasts of black and white in mind and so his panels and art are extra striking in the original format. The anime will likely never make Bleach look as cool as the manga, with the exception of the anime-original scenes in TYBW.

I think it depends if Carter wants to read the Bleach manga or just collect them. I recommend the Japanese versions if he wants to just collect them. The book covers are so much better than the English one.

They usually only watch 2 episodes at a time anyway so even if they skipped 228 it's not like we would have gotten a different non-filler episode in its place. While the beach episode was a bit gratuitous the upside is they get to skip like 40 episodes of filler (the arc has some interesting aspects IMO but it's still filler in the middle of canon) and will be dropping right into peak next upload so they will be happy

It was an official omake (bonus chapter) written and drawn by Tite Kubo in Manga Volume 29! Anime filler lists just label it non-canon because it's a stand-alone gag chapter that doesn't impact the main plot.
