Joey Sabishii

Y’all need to see Sword of the stranger. I mean fr fr!

olivia

y'all need to watch A Silent Voice next. These two movies are often compared to each other because how good they are.

Ale

I never got around to watch this so I guess this is my chance

falconnn

Remember the whole thing about changing bodies went through generations in her family to save the people of the shrine. The grandma had the same experience, mitsuhas mom, and so on. The cycle won't happen again cuz the family was saved. Thats what I remember

falconnn

You can even see it when Taki entered the cave where the sake was. When he fell, there was a paint on the ceiling. Many generations ago knew someday a comet would destroy the shrine

Linn

Please do A Silent Voice next! :) It’s my favorite movie.

Shpitz

speaking to the animation quality, movie budgets are in a whole different realm than weekly tv episode budgets

Xio’♡

I can’t wait to watch this when I get home. Your Name is one of my favorite anime movies

Was a while since i saw this, its a very good movie and full of emotions.

Alyson Loza

This made my entire morning 🥹 so stoked to see your reactions to this masterpiece 💯

Lily

It was an awesome experience to watch this movie with you guys! Such a beautiful movie. Love it so much. If you ever watch Ghibli movies, you may like to start watching with 「Princess Mononoke」(97')　or 「Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 」(84'). It has a little more action than other Ghibli movies, and I believe you would like it. Such an impressive storyline and animation, drawings, and backgrounds were all written by hand. (Hayao Miyazaki prefer that way.) Maybe「Porco Rosso」too. It is an underrated but great movie. You will see the coolest pig in the world. haha You can see it in the cinema right now. They are re-releasing it this weekend. 「Spirited Away」and 「 Hawel's Moving Castle」is great too, I love them. But just you know, it is more known or popular in the US because "Spirited Away" won international movie awards, and Disney(Disney owns Ghibli rights in the US and Canada) changed how to market Ghibli movies since then. Anyway, Hayao Miyazaki's old movie is goated. Maybe good to start the old movie directed by him. But there's another director who makes great and real movies too (Isao Takahata). I believe that you will definitely find one movie you like from Studio Ghibli since they have from kids' dreamy movies to sad and realistic movies as possible.

rosa_gris

This was my second time watching this movie. I remember being so tense during the stairway scene. I desperately wanted them to turn around and acknowledge each other. I was going to RIOT if they went their separate ways. I feel like Japanese animated movies tend to have ambiguous endings (IYKYK 🥲), so it felt cathartic when there was closure! Overall, I thought the movie was good but it didn’t resonate with me as much it did with the general public. Main reason being, I wasn’t fully invested in the romance, which was a central part of the plot. I agree with Brig that it felt sudden, and that the movie could have portrayed their developing feelings better. The whole writing-in-each other’s-diaries part had potential, and it could have shown them falling for each other’s quirks/personality through that. The animation and soundtrack were what stood out to me and carried a lot of the emotions.

leo martinez

Also weathering with you takes place in the same world as your name Taki even shows up

Audreyldo

Ohhhh great !!! Can’t to watch this :)

teagan

patema inverted, the girl who lept through time and summer wars are really enjoyable movies too!!

Luna

OH MY FREAKING GOLLY GOSH IM SO HAPPY THIS IS THE MOVIE, IM GONNA EAT MY DINNER AND CRY WHILE I WATCH THIS !!!

A Silent voice is another amazing movie

Coen

rogue movie recommendation: Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms

Kermit Kermicide

Mitsuha dreams of a boy from tokyo 3 years after the comet hit. After setting up Taki on a date with Okudera, she goes to tokyo thinking that she'll meet Taki and okudera but instead meets a younger Taki who hadn't dreamt of her yet, and gave young Taki her braided cords. The Taki she's been switching with is from a time when the comet already hit itomori but she doesn't know that. Then goes back home cuts her hair, goes to the festival, comet hits, itomori gone and she ded. Taki heading home from school or work meets a weird girl in the train and gives him a braided cord along with her name. A day later, he sees the news about comet tiamat and decides to go outside to the roof to see the scenery. The feeling as though he just lost something started to grip him from that moment on. 3 years later after the comet hit, Taki, a boy from Tokyo starts dreaming of a girl from the past. After the disastrous date with okudera, he decides to meet Mitsuha but shocked at the discovery that the girl he'd been switching with is one of the 500 victims of the comet tiamat tragedy. He goes to the Shrine where mitsuhas and yotsuhas offering is and drinks mitsuhas sake. Taki and mitsuha switch places one last time. This time they both have a chance of changing the future. A future where there arent 500 victims taken by comet tiamat. Taki starts the plan then meets mitsuha, mitsuha finishes the plan and then comet hits but no mo victims. Future is changed. 5 years later, (this is where the movie starts which is also where the movie ends) Mitsuha and Taki walking out of their apartment saying something along the lines of "oh i feel like i lost something, i think this feeling gripped me when the stars fell blah blah blah" cue the music and flashback(fun fact the entire movie is a flashback) off to work they go. On the train they see each other then they started searching for each other the end. Long story short, she dreams of a future boy, he dreams of a girl from the past. They can't meet one another because of the comet. But through love manages to change the fabric of reality for the better.

JIMBO

Make sure you do “a silent voice” as well thats a greater movie than this even

Gatsu

A Silent voice has to be next

ShadowCat

Yall need to watch Weathering With You next since it's in the same universe and has some character Easter eggs in it 😉

James

I'm not much into love stories, but this is one of the exceptions. Also, I recommend watching Belle next. Belle came out into 2021, and it has a good story with good music.

Mia Malvik

huh. Wondering if there's someone watching this from Norway, Brig

Joie Dianzon

I have this book! Never watched it before, though.

BrianTheWoeful

I hope they watch Princess Mononoke soon or at least a Ghibli

SYD

ya'll should watch erased. it's only 12 episodes and I think you guys would really enjoy it

Asbjørn Kennedy

That was fun to rewatch with you guys. So many questions lmao. If you want to dive a bit deeper into it you guys might want to look up the term "Red thread of fate", which is from east asian mythology and Your Name heavily leans into that. Not to mention how 'thread' both visually, metaphorically and literally plays several roles in the movie. I'm sure there are great blog posts out there linking it to the movie as well. I can understand where Brig is coming from (wrt how they fell in love) - personally I think the movie showed that they werent really aware that they cared about each other until they lost contact, and that it was fairly gradual until then (they were kinda like pen pals in a way). Mitsuha was visibly confused as to why she teared up at the thought of Taki going on a date, meanwhile Taki wasn't really interested in his date / former crush, even though he didnt really seem to realise it himself until it was pointed out. So I'd agree that their love blossoming is somewhat subtle, but I think the signs are there. As for other movie recommendations: Pretty much anything by Satoshi Kon - dude was an artisan. His most famous work is Perfect Blue. If you watch any of his works, please try to note his scene transitions because they are sometimes very creative. A Silent Voice, Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time are also all very good.

Sigh Berian

y'all got bamboozled into watching a romance movie 😂

Fedei

Sorry I don't know names well but I love the guy's reaction sitting on the far left, one of my fav movies in general.

Max Grodman

Love this movie this was a great surprise. Very “soft” magic in this story but I think it works well. I’d clarify more but it seems like other people have it covered. I’d recommend some ghibli movies next all the ones I’ve seen have been amazing

kiiturii

I love brig making up his own action scenes for the movie lmao

Crowderr

Not related at all but Cannon looks exactly like a Football (soccer for you guys) player who plays for Newcastle United in the premier league. His name is Bruno Guimaraes. Can't stop seeing Cannon when watching the games and scrolling on twitter haha

Mia Malvik
>>115815702

now I'm gonna be thinking about this when Liverpool play Newcastle on Sunday lmao

JackLover19

okay, this is epic. A Silent Voice is another great anime movie

sleepymiffi

YAY!!! SO GLAD YOU REACTED TO THIS MOVIE <3 yup the more you rewatch it the more satisfying it is, you notice more stuff and understand it better. and thats okay! i love movies like that. also loveee how you guys enjoy the visuals, it truly is an insanely beautiful movie. hope to see you react to more movies soon! honestly, it doesn’t matter to me what animated movie you’ll watch first but Silent Voice is definitely a must watch! made me more emotional than Your Name, i was more invested with the story and the characters, and it really hits different idk i’d be surprised if none of you shed a tear (also Princess Mononoke is awesomeeee i totally recommend)

sushi

please do a silent voice next!!

Crowderr
>>115815702

Google "Bruno Guimaraes taxi" and its a picture with him and his dad and it looks just like you man 🤣 and it is a compliment he's a good looking dude I just can't help but see it 😅

Bryce

You guys HAVE to watch Princess Mononoke if you haven’t seen it! Studio Ghibli’s best movie imo, world building is peak

Mysterious Figure

You guys should watch Sword of the Stranger anime movie - it's almost always on most lists for best animated anime of all time. Also it's full of stylish action and cinematically very well put together. Otherwise, pick almost ANY Ghibli movie. They are super influential in the genre and you could say they are as influential as Disney classics, but from Japan. They also usually have slightly more mature themes that are expressed in a bit more nuanced way.

Poragami

anime movie are just something else, but if u want something that's not too sad and slice of life-ish, then i highly recommend kizumonogatari 1-3 or evangelion 1.1 - 4.4. such good movies.

The rewatches for this movie is so damn enjoyable. I absolutely cry every time I see that "I love you" on that hand, man. Catching the small things the second time around is great: like the iphones hinting at what time you're in, her Mitsuha having braided hair and his Mitsuha is like forget it I'll make a ponytail. Her crying about the "date" was less about wanting to be on it with Okudera, but the fact that Taki would be on a date with Okudera instead. So so so glad you guys watched this! I can proudly say it's my favorite movie.

kiiturii
>>115795024

no that painting was of the previous comet that had hit, the one that created the crater that the town was built around

Alyson Loza

Regarding the romance, I think what carter mentioned was pretty spot on. I don’t feel like you really need to see it develop on screen the stereotypical way most romances do, given their unique situation. Imagine living someone else’s life and seeing the life they’ve lived by literally walking in their shoes. That connection is something they never have and never will share with another person. Love can be developed in many ways. I don’t think Taki truly realized that he loved Mitsuha until he experienced the grief of believing he lost her. Sometimes, you don’t know what you got until it’s gone. First he lost the ability to switch with her, then he discovered she died. That loss he experienced gave him perspective on how much that person meant to him. Then when he switches back in her body he was so overjoyed. And when they meet at the crater he finally understood what he was feeling is love! It’s not a typical love story, and personally that’s why I love it. This entire movie presents ideas to the audience in a way that is not black and white 😊 however, I can understand that may not be everyone’s cup of tea! Some people may like the romance to be more clearly built up in a way that’s easier to pick up on. Regardless, I absolutely loved watching your reactions to this! Ya’ll are seriously the best. Definitely wanna see your reactions to both A Silent Voice and Weathering with you.

kiiturii
>>115794803

was it really all for that? Because I feel like none of the other generations had any influence on what Taki and Mitsuha did to save the town. I feel like the body swapping was a generational thing they all experienced and it started from the effects of the first comet or something, but they all had their own experiences and they weren't all just for this moment

falconnn
>>115794803

Well, when taki returns to mitsuhas body and her grandma tells him about the body swapping he says that every one of them went through generations to save the lineage

kiiturii
>>115799000

agree, it definitely got me feeling tense but I still don't see what part exactly makes people cry lol, but still a very good movie though

UI

Yo, awesome reaction. Y’all Definitely need to watch A Silent Voice next. One of the best in my opinion

Silvana Salinas

I can't wait to see how you guys react to A Silent Voice. Your Name and A Silent Voice are one of the best!

DW AWdAWD A

i kinda understand brig with the love came out of no where but at the same time I can totally seeing it not being a romantical type of love but both characters were instantly put in a spot where they had to be looking out for eachother and doing whats best for the other so I can kinda see love forming from that

Jiggy
>>115815702

Funny you say that, whenever I see Brig I think of Harvey Elliot from Liverpool lmao

Jem de Jager

Remember when the father said "your mother's side of the family was always crazy". Well that was referring back the mother, and the grandma ect. having "dreams" of being in somebodys body, and people possesing their's

corLeonis

I wish you could also react to Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime). It's my all time fave from Studio Ghibli 😊

Sasha

I'm going to watch this later this week. Let's gooo

boop

man i love this movie

Saki

love this suprise 😌 also i agree with all the silent voice, ghibli (esp mononoke 💕) and girl who lept through time recommendations and stuff, but i feel like weathering with u would probably be best to do next while u still have this movie in mind, as there r some little cameos in it! something taki said this movie can also be said to be used as a slight referance to that one~ (p.s.,, regarding the one piece mentions in the intro,, its def a commitment if u guys ever wereeee intrested in looking into it - but if u can suspend ur disbelief regarding certain designs and what not i feel like u might actually have an appreciation for all the world building and stuff? again thats only if yall would actually have any intrest in seeing what its about tho! afterall a journey is only as fun as ones willingness to go on it allows it to be~)

Joie Dianzon
>>115815702

Brig looks like my Dutch boss. He loves to joke around too. It gave me anxiety when he had his haircut. 😭 Carter sometimes looks like Jamie Dornan. 😂

TerraZetzz

I'm hearing great things about the new Trigun Stampede. Also, give Violet Evergarden a try. One of the best animes next to AoT. Oh, and forgot to mention 86.

姫凛 一色

最後に2人が再会し場所は、日本で実在する場所としても有名です。この作品大好き。

Jasmin Baus

cant wait to watch the reaction. I enjoyed the movie when i first saw it. it isn't in my top favourite honestly but its a good one. Seeing people in the comment mention a silent voice though has me excited. Its my favourite anime movie ever, its stuck with me. You should definitely check A silent voice~!!

Ale

Besides any Ghibli movie I recommend you Paprika and Perfect Blue, I haven't seen anyone mention them so my two cents

Elina

I'm so happy you guys watched this movie! And you should definitely watch A Silent Voice its so so so good. It's my go to cry movie and just generally one of my favorite movies of all time.

Matthew Hunt Davies

My top 3 for anime movies (excluding jjk 0 and mugen train), would be 1. A Silent Voice, 2. I want to eat your pancreas, 3. Your Name

devakira

You should definitely watch princess mononoke and all ghibli movies from Hayao Miyazaki are truly the best!

TerraZetzz

Not sure if writing "I love you" on her hand was stupid or smart. Maybe the gesture was more memorable than writing your name. I mean, if someone wrote that on your hand but you don't remember their name wouldn't you always remember that?

Kim555

had me choking on my own tears for the 3rd time watching this again. No more please

Mailo

Would definitely recommend “the silent voice”.

Linn

There is one thing that still confuses me, that maybe someone can clear up. She goes to Tokyo, then later comes home, cuts her hair and the same night the comet hits. But when he wakes up in her body the hair is already short, and she went to Tokyo yesterday. So did Tokyo / the cutting of the hair happen the day before and we just skipped a day right to the night of the comet in her timeline? Otherwise they don’t match up.

Steven

Silent voice

Readster
>>115880803

Tokyo and the hair was the day before. When Tessie calls her the night the comet hits she says "I just didn't feel like going" implying that she hadn't gone to school that day (likely spent the whole day in bed depressed) Taki then wakes up in her body the morning of that day when he goes for a do-over

mati wortmann

Hey guys. Im a relatively new patreon, been really enjoying rewatching animes with you. Love to see you are also getting into and enjoying these types of movies, they are seriously gold. You already mentioned it, but you guys have to watch "A Silent Voice". one of my favourite movies, anime or not

IAMONSTRISM Diaz
>>115832592

Well said! I agree absolutely, tbh if I was in any of their shoes, living their lives, playfully changing small details in the other person’s lives, keeping notes out and teasing… I would definitely have felt a little something. What you said about Taki finally realising he loves Mitsuha after losing her and the flashback that she actually went to find him 3 years ago when he didn’t even know her. I would have been touched. Mitsuha is also kind of an outcast, haven’t really talked much to anybody around except for her two friends. Then having a connection with a guy, living his life which she dreamt of, in the city and cafe. Having conversations through journals would have done something to her heart too! And yes, absolutely LOVE this type of love story. Rather than blatantly seeing the couple fall in love, I get to FEEL the connection and emotions and the process of falling in love so discreetly.

IAMONSTRISM Diaz

Love all the next anime movie recommendations and would be here to see any reactions tbh. I would also like to recommend Grave of The Fireflies to anybody who is looking for a good sob-your-heart-out anime movie. That movie scarred me and I can NEVER rewatch without crying and feeling numb after. I rewatch it thrice, idk why i tortured myself.

Dennis Eugster
>>115863357

The reason Taki wrote "i love you" was because all theyr messages were erased after some time. Feelings stayed but Facts didnt. So he probably took the chance and confessed there instead of writing his name wich would disapear anyways.

falconnn

idk if anyone knows this anime, but erased is just way too good and so underrated and unknown. Maybe some far away day you guys could give it a try

neko

Will you guys be reacting to Shibuya Arc trailer from Jjk season 2?

Marissa
>>115914889

so so sooo good. live action is also good but the anime is the og

Kyosuke Kagami

I subbed just for this movie to see the full uncut reaction. You definitely need to watch the other Makoto Shinkai movies, namely Weathering With You and Suzume, which just came out in theaters a couple months ago. Both are 10/10 as well, and they both feature the same music composer and band too (Radwimps). Also Taki and Mitsuha have short scenes in Weathering With You, and the main girl from Garden Of Words (also 10/10 IMO) is Mitsuha's teacher in Your Name.

sean

you guys 100% need to watch a silent voice after this

まき のり

Please watch the legendary Japanese Sci-Fi animation film "AKIRA". It's an old film, but I think you guys will like it.

Jay J.
>>115788317

Same. Like, I understand the plot, I understand everything that's going on but... based on the hype I expected something more I guess

studiogek

Yall thank you for all these comments! Love reading them all!

humbleandkindness

If you’re still interested in Ghibli movies, I suggest the wind rises, immediately followed by my neighbor Totoro to feel better

Cookie

W reaction about to rewatch 😭

Audreyldo

Amazing! Glad that you guys loved it, but pls watch grave of the fireflies! it's the most beautiful and sad movie that exists imo, i cried way too much

jul ☽

please watch weathering with you and suzume next :) you’ll love them (same producers as your name)

Mikey N

Now its time for A Silent Voice. Best anime movie of all time to me

George

Would love to see you guys react to Your Lie In April, dk how up your alley it would be but if you liked Your Name you’d probably like it too. Would be easy to pick up and do quickly, only 20 ish epidodes.

Can’t touch this Stone
>>116031041

ehhh. maybe im just not into romance stories like that. Tired of seeing highschoolers liking each other. Are there like college ones or full on adults?

Miya
>>115863357

To add to what Dennis said, there's a belief that the moon goddess protects words of love, which is why the "I love you" didn't disappear but all their logs to each other did, as they were just logs. If Taki wrote his name, it would've definitely disappeared.

DeadLotus

The movie follows an old myth in Asian folklore which is believed that some ( not most of us as Brigg was saying about the grandma) are destined to be with a particular partner in that life aka their soulmate. And their connected through an invisible red string which the movie's tangible object would be the bracelet/hair band(?). I think a good scene to refer back on is when their both on top of the mountain and they able to meet due to an eclipse then he throws her the string; connecting/creating a bond with each other. oh i forgot to say but its called "The Red String of Faith".

DeadLotus

Fun Fact: There's a manga adaptation of the movie (which is crazy since usually its the other way around) and they also have a cameo in "Weathering with You" since they are based in the same universe.

AnonX
>>115810260

HOLY SHIT THERE'S FUCKING PERFECT BLUE I FORGOT ABOUT THAT. I would fucking love to see their reaction to it. I could feel my brain melting halfway through the movie and it was such an insane experience.

Luqha

I really recommend watching A Silent Voice, if you are going to do movies now, it is one of my favorite movies of all time

Sasha

"I don't enjoy the process but one it's happened I like it" yes well didn't happen to me in this movie but happened in Parasite. That was a perfect movie at least to me in the end. Hope they can watch Parasite too.

Sasha
>>116031041

This is reply to person with the "ehhh" I think you don't even know what you're saying. You want college and adults just because of what? Lmao. A Silent Voice is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Quite likely top 10. And I can say that I've seen stuff.

Sasha
>>115990587

The Wind Rises is so good but I don't get Totoro. Other than it's way too famous.

Rudy Nayager

The most amazing thing about the animation is when they do landscapes- they set it in real world locatiuons - you can go to all these locations from the movie in Japan, its liker a bucket-list thing for all anime watchers- to get a pic and then match it in the movie. THe volcano - the lake, the staircase etc

Toff

NORWAY MENTIONED LETS GO BRIG

Kimmer

Is this movie? For girls??? I haven’t seen it

Vero The Geto Lover

Really enjoyed this reaction and I really hope A Silet Voice is next 🫶

Kimmer
>>116347125

It looks like a chick flick movie,,, no action, just talking n plot twist

Yeetus

Hello from Norway

N

I like the story of the film, but I also like the beautifully rendered scenery. The film faithfully recreates the buildings, vehicles and geography of the real Tokyo. But it is even more beautiful than the Tokyo you see with your own eyes. I bought a book of artwork from the film 😊If you get the chance, come on a trip to Tokyo. From Japan with love.

Ameth

Old upload, I know, but in case no one said anything the reason he wrote I love you instead of his name was because every instance of record keeping they've done was mysteriously erased, like their notes on the phone being erased before his eyes. Probably because of musui or whatever the gods name is, so rather than write his name and has it be erased he wrote something that'd be "safe"

Freedom

I watched your reaction for this in youtube when i first found your channel, but there were a lot of cuts, haha, this is my favorite anime movie, loved your full reaction even in the second time watching you guys! Thank you for reacting to this!

Hector

Appreciating this upload a year later
