Dude Man McGee

This reaction alone was a nice surprise, then Your Name, and now we get ANOTHER?

Dude Man McGee

Also cannon and carter's sister is me

CRuEL_WOrlD

Yall should do more western shows with the entire grp. Like castlevania Arcane or invincible for example, they all PEAK Also W Addy

Alejandro Ramos

im enjoying the girls reaction, havent seen ATLA since i was a kid so im pumped watching it as a adult.

J

Since ATLA is almost 20 years old, some of the humor and scenes may seem a little cheesy

Meel

Cant wait for episode 13 its such a turning point in the show

ssj4rit

the moment you realize why Roku melted Zuko's chains 😳

Faris Alamin

I think the pressure to enjoy the show from you guys isn't helping. The show gets really good in S2, it still hasn't hit its stride yet. It has good moments but it just isn't there yet. We love it because we know all the characters, but S1 isn't amazing like the rest of the show. Let them enjoy it at their own pace.

>>116190300

because it's for kids lol, it literally came out in 2005 on nick for 8 year olds. we don't watch the show for cool action scenes we watch it because it's such an iconic show from our childhood. if you want action and deeper meaning atla is not for you.

Taha Faiq

lmaoo carter saying it almost broke the mic and addie having a mini panic attack

ThatAnemicGuy

Hei Bai could've fucked up Zuko&Co. if he was still on his demon time arc

Sean Carroll
>>116190300

Haven’t you seen all the comments saying season 1 is not that great. Season 2 is where it gets good and season 3 is incredible but considering your lofty standards you probably won’t like it at all. All we can say is trust the people who comment how good the show becomes and see what you think. If I’m the end you still don’t like it then at least you’ll know

Sean Carroll
>>116190300

Also dude it’s literally a kids show at this point and technically a kids show all the way despite getting more mature, there’s not going to be death

Sigh Berian

Whelp, this is where I'm dropping this show. This might be entertaining to watch for an 8 year old, but for an adult, it's torture. I'm not a masochist so I have to stop here. Idk why people keep hyping this show up and expect an adult to like it. This has to be the worst most hyped up show I've ever seen. The other hyped up show, Demon Slayer, at least has good action and animation. This show has nothing an adult would enjoy.

Sean Carroll
>>116201259

you need to seriously chill out by the way, your comments are insulting a fandom who love a great show, if you dont care for it then just kindly F### off

Poragami

i mean i get it, it might be super boring to people who have never watched the show and i'm not a fan of book 1 either, but book 2 is where it picks up fast

Thiivi
>>116201259

Gotta love the entitled mindset of thinking that anyone here cares that you're not gonna continue watching lmao

Zachary
>>116201259

It is a tv-7 show dude. Watch it with that in mind. It’s a kids show. I don’t know what you’re expecting but I’m sure you’d be surprised if you just give it a chance with that in mind. Fair enough though. I understand where you’re coming from lol and If you still have any inclination to keep watching Atleast watch to the finale of season one.

Coran
>>116201259

If you got to season 2 you’d definitely understand, but you clearly don’t have enough patience for that so good riddance.

Sigh Berian
>>116201259

@Sean if you feel insulted that an adult dislikes a show you watched as a kid, than that says more about you than me. I didn't insult a fandom, but even if I did, I have no reason not to, and maybe you should be insulted for hyping up this trash show. Unlike the 2 girls that can't outright say this show is garbage without you and other rabid fanboys going after them, I can. @Zachary there are plenty of kid shows that have likable characters, a decent story, decent action, and/or a good ost that an adult would still enjoy. This story has none of that. But I guess that's too much to expect from one of the most hyped up shows. If I sat down right now and watched Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, or Teen Titans, there would still be aspects I would find enjoyable. @Northyee you right, I didn't have a childhood because I didn't watch this vastly overrated show. I was too busy watching some good shows.

Sigh Berian
>>116204239

Season 2 is prob only considered better because Season 1 couldn't get any worse.

Sean Carroll

Yall already know they are gonna swoon over Jet next episode, Haru will be a forgotten memory

Sean Carroll
>>116201259

1. I only watched this show for the first time last year when i was 24, I didnt love season 1, but season 2 and 3 are admittedly incredible television. 2. When you say that 8 year olds might enjoy it you insult people who are not children and still enjoy it. 3. Again youre calling a 60 episode show trash after only watching 8 episodes in its clear worst season, people are hyping up the overall show, no one is hyping up season 1 4. Why do you need to keep reminding us your an adult, makes you come off as insecure.

milk
>>116201259

Damn man what a pity. Sad that you didn't like it like how I do but please do at least pay attention to this from time to time, Awwe I was pretty pumped for you too but oh well.

Sigh Berian
>>116201259

@Sean I say 8 year olds because that's what another commentor told me this show is for and why I, as an adult, don't like it. I only say as an adult because people are saying this is a kid show and the reason I'm not liking it is because it's meant for kids. Like I said, if you feel insulted by me criticizing a show, than that says more about you than me. I've watched over 10% of the show at this point, that's definitely enough to say it's trash. @milk I was going to try to get through it at least until season 2, but other people in the comments defending this show saying, "it's just a kids show, what did you expect" put me off continuing because this shows that the show is only rated so high because of nostalgia, and I as an ADULT (yes Sean I said it again) can't expect to be entertained. You're still the most wholesome person in these comments though and almost solo making me want to see what happens later in the show. I'll prob still watch the ATLA reaction from Gek on 2x speed just to see if anything entertaining happens.

hatemylife2003

start One piece at this rate it'll take you three years to reach the latest arc

Sigh Berian
>>116228399

yes, a show that's 1000 times better than this show. You might actually see what good characters are. The funny thing is that people were saying that the humor doesn't translate well in ATLA because the show is almost 20 years old, but One Piece is older and the humor in the beginning of the show is still excellent. Edit: I should mention that I never even heard of One Piece growing up and only watched it for the first time as an adult, so no nostalgia at play here, unlike with this show.

milk
>>116201259

Well don't force yourself man. I'd recommend waiting for Book 3 and start watching from there and see if you like anything you see then rewatch the past seasons. If that didn't work, then we can't do anything about that. Also don't get carried away about what people are saying to you. You've expressed your opinion, and we should all respect that. I do get where they're coming from, after all, nobody wants something they love to be ridiculed.

Sigh Berian
>>116201259

One of my favorite shows, if not the favorite, is One Piece. People criticize it all the time. Even the Gek guys are trashing it here and there throughout the variety of videos they've made. Cannon said it's overrated. Do I feel insulted? Lol no, it's just a show. I didn't just say I hated it, I said why I hated the show. People can't argue with my reasons for hating the show besides saying, "its just a kid show," shows me that it's not me just not understanding something about the show, but that the show is just bad.

r.s.
>>116228399

respectfully I think you overrate one piece humor. To me it felt on par or even worse then atla. But I only watched 200 episodes so maybe the humor picks up at some point.

Mysterious Figure

McKay you say Avatar is cheesy but then you like HxH which is as cheesy as it gets? I'm watching HxH with you guys even tho the story is so full of non sensical plot holes and room temperature IQ plot twists while trying to come off as having bigger stakes than it does. You can see the resolution of many scenes from a mile away, or if that's not the case then the resolution becomes a deus ex machina type of convenient plot resolution without any earned and fulfilling conclusion to most scenes. The whole HxH bad guys vibe is being edgy which is the pinnacle of cheese. The only reason I'm still suffering through HxH is because I like watching it with you guys. But at least I'm trying to be open minded.

Sigh Berian
>>116228399

I have to ask, did you watch it in sub or dub? I could not stand Luffy's english va, and the humor of the show just disappears when watching in english dub. If you watched it in sub and found the humor lacking, then hey, humor is mostly subjective, so no problem, maybe the show just isn't for you then. Generally people enjoy the humor in One Piece and that's what gets them through some of the "boring" arcs.

r.s.
>>116228399

subbed. It's just not for me a think. The manga might be more my style.

Sigh Berian
>>116228399

yeah try the manga, but read a colored version of it. I don't like the black and white version, some of the panels are hard to read without color. Also, LOL you stopped right before a top tier arc that starts around episode 230 that is a lot of people's favorite arc. It isn't mine, but it's definitely top tier.

bondbond53
>>116232046

I'm ngl, a much as I love Naruto, the cheese there is insane sometimes so there's that McKay but I guess to each their own

Sigh Berian

My bad for suggesting to get more of McKay's opinion on this show. He speaks too much truth. Tape his mouth shut for the rest of the show before you have a mob of ATLA fanboys coming at you with pitchforks.

studiogek
>>116201259

That really sucks because I think your opinion is valid (although maybe a bit too harsh in my opinion with your scores lol) but I do think if you stuck with it at the end you would at LEAST say its a good show. Probably wouldn't even be close to your favorite but there definitely is a reason why so many people love it and what better chance to try it than with us and all the people here in the comments. But do what you wish! All I can say is earlier you told someone that stopped one piece at episode 200 that one of the best arcs was coming up at 230, which was approaching 25% of the show but here you said 10% was enough to make up your mind ;)

Sigh Berian
>>116201259

The biggest problem I have with this show is that there is not a single thing I can latch onto to get myself through this terrible first season. Even with the shows I didn't like at first, there would be something I could grab onto to get me though the rough parts of the show. Whether it would be a funny side character, good OST, interesting storyline, good actions scenes, or good animation. This doesn't have any of that. So far, Avatar has two types of characters, annoying ones (Aang, Sokka, Katara, Zuko) or bland ones (everyone else). The only mildly, and I want to strongly emphasize mildly, interesting character was Bumi. Even in a crappy story, there would at least be a character I like. I have no reason to lie about my rating, and I explain the reason for the ratings I gave. As to the One Piece stuff, the person made it through 200 episodes, he must have enjoyed something if he made it that far. Episode 200 is when most people burnout with OP because the arc that spans from EP 150 to 200, for a first time viewer, is one of the least interesting arcs and it drags a lot. When I first watched OP, I took a break around there too. On my first watch of OP, when I made it to 10%, although it wasn't a great show to me yet, I would still at least give it a 7.5/10.

TFDFrezzy

Nahh no meme, drinking tea while ready these comments has to be the best pass time there is…

ssj4rit
>>116191721

Yeah I feel constantly saying “the NEXT episode is when it gets good trust me” just causes people to naturally watch with expectance instead of just chilling and enjoying the ride. Personally my best viewing experiences are when I go in blind with no expectations and get pleasantly surprised.

McKay Carter
>>116232046

You basically just made this whole comment about hxh but didn’t really back up how avatar isn’t cheesy, which it is, so my comment still stands? Sorry!

A
>>116201259

I watched this as an adult and I loved it so….

rayman
>>116201259

as the group literally said, you have to give it time to develop into what people are hyping. S1 is "good" but it hasn't had the character and plot/world development that everyone loves about this show. It's a show made for kids that anyone of any age should be able to enjoy. If you can't stand it. whatever but don't go around saying "for an adult it's torture" as if 99% of the fanbase aren't grown ass adults that love it. You're pissing people off because you're acting like you're more mature than everyone else here and this show is way below your intellect. In the end, this show is a KIDS SHOW with very mature themes and topics discussed (specifically in later seasons), but it is still a KIDS SHOW with kid's show elements that never truly leave.

Luke Crompton

I love this show but I will say if Avatar was an "Anime", a lot of the episodes would be considered filler. So I can see why the girls aren't digging it so far.

Sean Carroll
>>116201259

Shrek is a kids movie but adults still enjoy it, Avatar might be immature right now but it becomes a very well written show with strong character arcs, season 2 literally introduces two of the best characters in the show. No one talks about season 1 when they mention this show, if you decide to stay and watch then i genuinely hope it improves for you. Also Zuko has arguably one of the greatest character arcs in all of fiction and thats not an exaggeration

Sean Carroll
>>116204239

id give season 1 a 4 or 5, season 2 an 8 and season 3 a 9 and im an "adult" same as you

Aye Yo Brendo

Girl I’m the blue gotta go she talk to much plus she has seen this already a million times

Sigh Berian
>>116204239

So you who loves ATLA say that season 1 is a 4 or 5 and when I score it a 3 or 4 I'm somehow being harsh and my standards are "lofty." Lol okay

Sigh Berian
>>116246955

@McKay, you can't just speak facts about this show without rabid ATLA fanboys attacking you. You said a politically correct "cheesy" as a way to describe this show and you already got some ATLA fanboy going after you. Imagine what would happen if you called this show trash like I did?

Sigh Berian
>>116201259

At this point people are just not even reading what I said before replying lol. I already said that the reason I mention that I'm an adult watching this show is because people kept telling me that I wasn't enjoying the show because its for kids, not because I think I'm more mature then everyone here. The problem is that the show isn't developing anything, their mission is to get to the north pole to learn water bending, but they keep doing side-quests the whole time. Stop for some food on the way and then skip to when they get to the north pole and the show might actually pick up. Right now, it's just meaningless boring filler. Bro are you okay? Shrek is a kids movie but adults still enjoy it because of the reasons I stated: It has good characters, good humor, decent story, and a banger OST. Avatar at this point has none of those things. You are just proving my point lol. If season 2 and 3 are actually good, then besides the first and maybe last episode of Season 1, everything else needs to be considered filler because of how trash and meaningless it is.

Sigh Berian
>>116282344

Finally someone with some sense 👍I'll probably watch season 2 now that I can just think of Season 1 as filler trash that it is.

Fátima Quintero

I think that to consider something a "filler", the content of the chapter must have nothing of relevance in future events or the information presented is repetitive. In each chapter there is development and very important information. So I made a list of things that I have noticed. I like to see precisely the "filler" episodes to see if they really are or not, so this list is about the episodes that I PERSONALLY do not consider as "filler" because I could learn something about the story, some character or some mystery .

Fátima Quintero

Episode 1: -Zuko chases the avatar, a being that can master the 4 elements and he is willing to face him even though he only dominates firebending. Why was a teenager given such an impossible task that not even his ancestors could complete? (take into account that Zuko did not know that the Avatar was younger than him in the first chapter) -If there are 4 nations, why would an entire nation have become extinct 100 years ago? -Aang is very young and naive, he has no idea how the world works 100 years after his time. His past hides a very important truth, there must be a reason why he ended up being frozen for 100 years.

Fátima Quintero

Episode 2: -There are very few or almost no adult men in the water tribe of the South Pole, the responsibility of that tribe ended up falling on Zokka, who did not hesitate to defend them even though he has no experience in combat. Impresive. -Aang did not hesitate to surrender to the fire nation so as not to endanger anyone. We can see that Aang knows how to use his own element despite his young age (Katara is older than him and doesn't know how to use waterbending), so he must have learned from someone. -When Aang's eyes start to glow, he can do things he doesn't naturally do. -Katara takes too much risk and Aang can be very careless, Zokka sees things more realistically at times, so I can see they are ballanced that way.

Fátima Quintero

Episode 3: -The extinction of the air tribe was the responsibility of the fire nation. Why would they commit such a terrible act of that magnitude? -Why would a hero general of the fire nation retire to accompany his nephew in the search for the avatar? -Apparently the king of the fire nation believes that he could soon win the war. -Aang found out that he was destined to be the Avatar sooner than he is supposed to be. Why? -Zuko has to capture the avatar before anyone else. His scar is related to the last time he fought in an Agni Kai. Aang doesn't control when he enters or leaves the avatar state and knows things he shouldn't know.

Fátima Quintero

Episode 4: -We can see that Sokka from the beginning has had macho attitudes, thanks to the context in which he has lived. The journey they are embarking on will not only help Aang reach his potential, Sokka and Katara will learn about themselves as well and grow in the things they need to improve the most. -When they enter a new village they can see how the community is very careful with the people who are new there, it wasn't until they saw that Aang was the avatar that they were kinder. That shows us how they live the war everywhere. I think is the way that the story tell us that it's important that Aang see for himself what the war has done to everyone, that way he'll understand the importance of his mission and how delicate the situation is. -Katara can be a bit annoying, but we see that she is the one who takes care of many of the responsibilities for the trip. While Aang has the luxury of hanging out with girls and Sokka trains, she takes care of the things they need for their trip. -Aang is persecuted, so all the people who are allies of the avatar will be enemies of the fire nation.

Coran
>>116282344

You still need to watch season 1 in order to understand the context of the rest. It’s still important at times even if you find it childish.

Fátima Quintero

Episode 5: -Aang is challenged by his friend Bumi, who reminds him of the importance of knowing how to be creative in different circumstances and, above all, thinking outside the box. -I think I don't have to explain why it's important... For a show dedicated to young people and children, it represents each concept very well without overcomplicating it.

Fátima Quintero

Episode 6: -Once again, I think we must consider that every time an episode takes them to a town for whatever reason, we are being given information about the context in which the people who are victims of the war against the fire nation live. They help them because they know they can, but sometimes their good intentions causes bigger problems and in this chapter Katara takes responsibility for what was happening and does her best to fix it. -Here we can see how she maintains her spirit because she knows that now there's hope (because the avatar has returned). We can see how the older ones are tired and see no reason to keep fighting.

Fátima Quintero

Episode 7: -In this episode we see that Uncle Iroh is quite agile and powerful, and that Zuko despite having an opportunity to go for the Avatar, preferred to help his uncle. Their relationship is pretty close. -Aang can enter a kind of spiritual realm. That will help him to know what he can do besides go to the north pole to learn waterbending. He will have very useful information that we can agree will be helpfull to him later.

ssj4rit

It’s odd so many call these episodes filler. Perhaps I’m wrong but from my understanding, filler has literally 0% impact on the broader plot. Like you can remove the episode and lose nothing in terms of worldbuilding, character and main plot. Like the Goku and Piccolo driving episodes in DBZ or Naruto’s side quests. ATLA in S1 is definitely episodic, as in each episode has some self contained story, but I’d hesitate to call any episode pure filler. Maybe the Great Divide but that’s it. In these episodes there’s introduction of a lot of key concepts and conflicts that spark the rest of the story. Of course you can argue if it’s done well or not, that’s subjective, but pure filler? If these episodes are filler then by that logic most of Cowboy Bebop is “filler” too

Fátima Quintero

Episode 8: -This episode is quite good showing that in the fire nation there are not only enemies, but also that some people in the fire nation are willing to help the avatar despite the consequences. -Something that I would also rescue is Sokka's ability to try to find a way to open the door without firebenders. It was really helpful. -And finally, the most important part for which this chapter is definitely not filler, we found out how much time Aang has to learn all the elements and finish the war. -We also see how Roku was able to materialize and help Aang out of that situation, adding one more ability to the Avatar.

Figgy
>>116201259

I'm rewatching the series with the Gek boys, and it is a bit more cheesy/ childish from what I remember when I watched it live on Nick. But I would suggest you continue watching to the end of this season or at least the next two episodes and reevaluate. Book 1 is supposed to feel like going on adventure where you don't know what could happen next while also developing the core characters, world building, escalating the main conflict in it's 20 episodes. Now the main reason Aang and the gang are taking so long to get to the north pole is because it's on the other side of the world. The reason they are doing side quests is because Aang is leading the way and there wasn't a sense of urgency. After leaving the Southern Water Tribe Aang listed off all the places he wanted to visit to have fun along the way to the the North Pole. But now Roku just gave Aang a hard deadline to learn all four elements by summer's end, before Sozin's Comet returns. Aang has his goal and deadline so things pick up from here. I will admit a lot of the action scenes were pretty mid up to now, something I noticed on this rewatch, but the fight choreography and action scenes gets significantly better. If it's boring you to death or grating to watch then just drop it, or watch it 2x speed like you suggested. But if you power through, it does get objectively better in character development, plot, and mature themes as the story progresses.

ssj4rit

0:05-0:10 Abby channeled Hisoka there o.O

Vernus

There are only 2 truly filler episodes of atla. That’s the great divide, coming up soon, and the ember island players episode. Although the ember island episode is a fun recap episode that I would never skip in a rewatch, the great divide is actually ass and I skip every time.

David Watkins

I wish i knew how seldom avatar drops were i wouldn't have subbed had i known. Nothing against you guys or the content but i think you're spread to far. Best of luck

its probably pretty hard to get 8 people's schedules to line up, but i get what ur saying

Coran
>>116204239

Because you won’t give the show a chance past that and claim the whole show is garbage. Yet you watched one piece which has incredibly garbage pacing and over 1000 episodes, but 20 episodes is too much for you to get past lol sure.

jordan solomon
>>116201259

idk WHAT you’re on because the ALTA soundtrack is out of this world!!! people saying ‘it’s a kids show so keep that in mind’ i don’t agree with but i also think it’s not the smartest to not like a show purely because it’s a ‘children’s show’. through reading comments, i know you’ve watched one piece. you haven’t even scratched the surface with ATLA and i really hope you give it another chance. all characters have a great purpose and you haven’t been met most of them….that’s like stopping one piece after only meeting Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. not very fair for the story writer either seeing as every single story goes through this stage or world building and character introductions. ofc everyone has a right to their opinion just maybe don’t be as harsh in your expression.

Jake the Movie Geek

Korra sucks because it retcons a lot of the lore that was setup in this show

Z King

Aang just needs to do some avatarmaxxing to master the elements in time.
