Tobi

He is a war criminal, he took part in the ishvalian genocide…

szeth

Is a war criminal a legal label or moral label genuine question. Because by our standards he clearly is but legally in that world he isn't right? Maybe this makes no sense

LuvStarburst

Technically the state alchemists were sent there to wipe them all out cause the standard military couldn't deal with the situation. They were just following orders and we all know how that saying goes.

BipolarKitten

I'm joining Brig wearing shade watching your video. You guys so pale like a ghost. I know its october spooky month and you guys just try to be a ghost.

Nah it makes total sense. Roy isn’t a war criminal because there in no national or international law (that we’re aware of) that would condemn him as such. In fact, he’s likely considered a war hero by the Amestrians. However, morally speaking, he committed grave acts against the Ishvalans. And by our standard of law, he would a war criminal.

Alex Ramirez

Cannon is right if we're talking about our world's rules. Most of the state alchemists committed several war crimes in Ishval, Colonel Mustang included

Alex Ramirez

Don't forget to check how many minutes are left in the episode when you get to the ending theme. Usually if there's more than 1:45 seconds there is an after credit scene.

Saidah

Will 7 be uploaded today?

About "War Criminal", We Japanese thinks it all depends whether the subjects or their country won the war. We have lots of "War Criminal" from WW2 in Japan but that is simply because we lost the war and they were judged by the Allies. Technically, there are ppl/soldiers that did bad thing(almost as bad as Japanese) in U.S. too, but they are considered "War Heroes" because they are on the other side of the table. IF Axis won the WW2, I think there were lots of war criminal in U.S. and we probably enshrine the Japanese soldiers as war heroes. So in this scenario, Roy is not war criminal but war hero, simply because he won the war. It has nothing to do with either what they did is good or bad.

spring deerling

Yes, there's definitely comparisons to the Holocaust and the war of Americans vs the Middle East when it comes to the ishvallan war. Their god ishvallah sounds similar to Allah in Islam. Roy would be considered a war hero and a war criminal. All of the state alchemists could be

spring deerling

I'm LOVING the speculation. Love that everyone is joining in on it (except McKay and him not wanting to spoil)

Keith Reynolds

nah jack should actually talk like that lmao

Asbjørn Kennedy

To argue whether Roy is a war criminial you'd have to agree on what you mean by that. By definition, to be a war criminal you'd have to violate the international rules of war. Since we have absolutely no way of knowing the rules of war of FMA it's hard to say, but to condemn Roy as a war criminal there would have to be a rule against the stuff he did (I guess, specifically killing people with alchemy or with fire in war). Of course it doesn't change the fact that it is ethically messed up, but then again, so is war in general.

Nathan Randall

Roy isn't considered a war criminal unless he violated laws of war previously established by Amestria, since it was a civil, not international war. What the state alchemist did doesn't seem to violate any of their laws because the King ordered it and he makes the rules. Its no different than bombing a city in an enemy country. Instead of dropping bombs from a plane, the alchemist use their alchemy to blow them up

Chris Daniel

Once you've seen the rest of the series, and the movies, and know the actual events of the war I'll be curious to hear what thoughts are on Roy.

Griff

Unfortunately, the winner of a war gets to decide who’s a war criminal

Nkechi

If international law exists in this universe, then yeah Roy is definitely a war criminal for what he did in Ishval.
