Ember island players is a masterpiece

Caleb

Studio Pe(a)k back with another one of them thangs.

Melizé

This is my first time watching ATLA and it has been so amazing! I can't wait to see how it ends ❤

LuvStarburst

That is a hot take from Jackson, I think it's one of the funniest episodes in this season.

Hunter Snider

Idk how Jackson thinks Ember Island players is worse than eps like Avatar Day, The Great Divide, or The Painted Lady. The rare Jackson L.

Goatchis

If you look at it from what it is as a recap episoden It is one of the best I have seen imo. But if you look at it as the penultimate episode before the finale, I could see why he wouldn't like it. I love it

Ash

I know it seems harsh that katara dropped that line about sokka not loving their mum in the same way but in a way she was correct- she did have a closer connection to her mum and her death impacted her more because she basically has survivors guilt and has to live with the knowledge that her village was attacked and her mum was killed essentially because of her existance. The most apparent key message that the audience would take is that revenge isn’t the answer but for me it’s that it’s important to confront your emotions and have that healthy release- she did get closure at the end and was able to see through that revenge really wasn’t the answer :))) love from the U.K!!

Jiggy

If Jackson thinks that it’s low key a blessing it’s hard to hear him during reactions then 😅

Jiggy

Catastrophic take smh

kaan

I didn’t really like Ember Island when I first watched it because I was watching it when it was airing and I get disappointed getting kinda recap episode after waiting. But I am cool with it now

Ritz Tan

Rare Jackson L

Gestrid

Yeah, Jack's just dead wrong with that take. It's a perfect "previously on Avatar" of the entire series right before the finale, and it shows us exactly what the stakes are, too. The worst episode is The Great Divide, which Jack's least favorite episode makes fun of.

kiiturii

the best recap episode ever made

Pressure

In my opinion the finale wouldn't be as good without this theater episode we get to see aang is really struggling and a bit deeper insight on everyone's feelings

Pressure

When making the show I'm not sure how the release dates were but it would make sense that this is purely made so that people remember the story not being able to binge watch it like we can now

Goatchis

I have never seen such a visceral reaction to aang being hyper cringe that was hilarious, as a 8 year old that scene shook me

Gestrid

Ooh, I think you're gonna love it! It's the only episode in the series to use an orchestra for the music. (All four parts use an orchestra.)

Gestrid

By the way, if you guys are ever looking for a show outside the ATLA universe that's HEAVILY, *HEAVILY* inspired by Avatar, then try The Dragon Prince! It features some of the same staff from Avatar (not the creators of ATLA, but some of the writers), and Jack DeSena (Sokka) voices a character in the show.

Gestrid

It also shows us exactly what the stakes are instead of simply telling us, "Oh, hey, Ozai's gonna take over the world."

This originally aired as part of a weeklong event called Countdown to the Comet (you can look up the promos for it on YouTube), which was a week of brand new Avatar episodes culminating in the premiere of Sozin's Comet. Keep in mind that this was after the show has been on hiatus for about six months. Prior to this, the last new episode, The Day of Black Sun, aired November 30th, 2007. The first episode that aired as part of Countdown to the Comet aired on July 14, 2008. The schedule for Countdown to the Comet looked something like this: Monday — The Western Air Temple Tuesday — The Firebending Masters Wednesday — The Boiling Rock, Parts 1 and 2 Thursday — The Southern Raiders Friday — The Ember Island Players Saturday — Sozin's Comet, Parts 1 through 4

I like to think play Toph is a buff dude cuz no one wanted to admit a 12 year old girl beat them up

GBuckets

ember islands players is my favorite episode actually. It's like a break before the main event. terrible take

Seth Aasland

i know people have their frustrations with katara, but i think her strong feelings are relatable and realistic. i imagine that if someone had fractured my family as much as that man did katara’s, i’d probably have VERY strong feelings, and it would most likely result in me making mistakes or saying things i don’t truly mean. it may be one of her flaws at times, but ultimately she always overcomes it, and comes out stronger the other side. just like the element of water itself, katara is someone who learns and adapts to whatever she needs to in order to overcome adversity

Enma

I thought the ember island player episode was a fun way to do a recap of the whole show thus far, instead of the traditional way of the characters reminiscing and showing clips of past episodes. It was really meta and self-aware. But I can't wait for the finale! Really hope we get all 4 episodes in 1 video.

GBuckets

Also best recap episode ever. Recap episodes should take notes instead of actual boring rewinds.

nans

so excited for the finale!!

szeth

isn't the recap ep literally the fan favorite ep of the whole show?

Jed

Sokka really does have the best girl😂 Suki stays winning every episode she is in🫡

Max Grodman

As recap episodes go it’s great. It’s a solid episode but there are much better episodes surrounding it

Alyssa

According to my calculations, I think that Katara was reminded that the fire nation had separated her family once already and was triggered when it happened again when Zuko and Azula were fighting, resulting in her and her father being separated. That’s most likely why she was angry at the camp fire. ✌🏽😮‍💨

neko

It's a pretty fair take from Jack. It's not bad for sure but among all the episodes in book 3, it's kind of valid to say it's the 'worst'.

IchiGoat

let’s gooooo we getting close

Yuion

It can definitely be seen as a filler episode and thus if you are in for the main story, this episode can kind of feel unnecessary and annoying So I would say totally valid But I disagree

Jackson Carter

I will say this episode was better than I remembered, but I feel like every time I’ve watched it in the past it was boring to get through except for the parts outside the play where characters actually talk like Katara and Aang. But I did forget about the great divide since we skipped it, so obviously not the worst episode 😂

Ronen

Cannon @46:22 was that a Lost reference?

Andy Larkin
>>126787906

Worst episode in season 3, is like being the worst player in the NBA, you're still great.

Andy Larkin
>>126783199

She's also traveling with a firebender, which is also constantly reminding her. Sokka didn't see his mom in her final moments, and he also didn't see the murderer. She's for sure going to be more negatively affected.

Sasha

Jackson might actually have the two hottest takes of studio gek's history.

Sasha
>>126787906

Nightmares and Daydreams, The Painted Lady, The Headband are worse than this at least.

Sasha
>>126781309

What do you mean fan favorite of the whole show? There's no way.

szeth
>>126781309

Every time someone says their favorite ep I hear this one consistently and I saw a poll somewhere I think idk. That might be not true but that’s what I thought

Michael H

It’s a recap episode, for sure, but the best recap episode ever made. Still better than a bunch of Book One episodes.

Antique-Item

Man you guys totally don’t get Katara

Gilded Jackal

Would you tell the Fire Lord you were beaten by a little girl? Nope, you're gonna describe Toph as a 7 foot pile of muscle 😂

Dr Awde

Yeah Ember Island is mid, which is pretty bad for ATLA cause basically every other episode is at least an 8/10

Tatum McCormick

I’ve never disagreed with Katara’s feelings towards Zuko, but I expected some small shift to more positive since he helped bring her dad back. But what I really really needed was for her to apologize to Sokka. No matter how much stronger she felt the loss of her mother or how in the moment she was with her hurt, what she said to Sokka deserves an apology.

Tatum McCormick

also, the ember island players episode is a mix of actual critiques of the show and original blueprints of the show which is why it’s just pure gold! (Toph was going to be an older guy, katara and Zuko were going to end up together, writers are aware of how much people didn’t like the Great Divide).

Anna

Crazy to think about the fact that Kya was killed because of Hama - after she broke free from the fire nation with blood bending they went to the southern water tribe looking for her, and when Kya claimed to be “the last water bender” they thought they were killing Hama. The layers of this show are so good

Zipzzty

nah the aang and katara scene was a hard watch 😭😭
