Out of the twins, Ser Erryk is the one who used to be Aegon’s sworn shield, so he was aware of all the shit Aegon was up to and really disliked him. Erryk was trying to show his brother, Ser Arryk, that Aegon was a bad person, e.g. “you see now what he is?” when they were in the kids’ fight club that Aegon frequents. Arryk was the one who dueled Ser Criston outside the city walls - Erryk just stood back and used the opportunity to walk away, and then broke Rhaenys out of the Red Keep.

Also, Talya is indeed a spy for the White Worm/Daemon’s chick, Larys was telling Alicent the truth - Talya was actually the one who let the White Worm know that Viserys was dead. A kid in the Red Keep saw Viserys dead, alerted Talya, and then Talya (after informing Alicent) lit a few candles in a window in one of the middle floors the Red Keep, which was a signal to be seen by the White Worm from the outside/far away. If you go back to the beginning of the episode right after Alicent and Otto talk about the king’s death (around 6:20-30 in the reaction video), you’ll see Talya lighting the candles and then what the Red Keep looked like from outside, all dark with only one room in its middle lit up. That was the signal, that’s how the White Worm knew without anyone having to leave the keep.

i don’t think alicent was lying when she told rhaenys that she should have been queen which, imo, is SO MUCH WORSE. “the iron throne was yours, by TEMPERAMENT and BLOOD” like omg do you even hear yourself? to say this to the woman your husband was chosen over (bc of their GENDERS) in defense of you trying to place your son on the throne over the king’s daughter (ALSO BC OF GENDER) is CRAZY?? the same daughter who he named heir and very blatantly and PUBLICLY backed for 20 YEARS including YESTERDAY?? not to mention the fact that aegon is a rapist who likes to watch children maim each other and alicent herself doesn’t even fw him!! so to recap, alicent is smart enough to recognize the error that was made at the great council, but actively fights for the same mistake to be made decades later.. which she claims is because viserys choked it out to her while he was high asf and half dead???? HUH 😟

I really didn't find it all that surprising that Alicent didn't want Rhaenyra harmed honestly, and I really don't think its ever just been as simple as wanting her son to take the throne over her. Imo its always seemed much more nuanced then that, starting with her fathers first poisoning when they were young, that her children would have to meet the sword for Rhaenyra to secure her position. Back then I think it was pretty obvious that Alicent had never even considered that her children would rule as opposed to Rhaenyra, nor the risk it would actually pose to both sides, so while everyone has been making moves for power and stuff, I really don't think that was the case for Alicent. And tbh? I still don't think that's the case. Nonsensical as it may be (all things considered), it really seems as though the shows intentionally framing it as Alicent /truly/ believing that she's fulfilling the kings dying wish, without ulterior motive or ill intent. I also don't believe that Alicents words to Rhaenys were mere flattery at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you guys yourselves also said at some point that while Viserys was a good man, he was not a good king? It seems that that's a sentiment commonly shared by those in the story as well, including Alicent, despite her care for him. /Many/ people think Rhaenys would've made a great leader, but that was unfortunately just not in the cards for her due to her status as a woman. Which side note? I also really enjoyed her words to her: "And yet you toil still in service to men. Your father, your husband, your son. You desire not to be free, but to make a window in the wall of your prison." as it reminds me very much of the saying that goes something like "a bird born in a cage believes freedom to be a crime", which also rings true for her I think. Alicent very much fell into subserviant roles because she was /raised/ to do that, and as she's referenced many times, has considered it what's "proper" and "decent". She doesn't know anything else. She was not afforded the same opportunities for different matches or rebellion or anything of the sort that was afforded to Rhaenyra by being the sole child and heir to a very loving and lenient king. All in all I just consider Alicent a very interesting character and think its important to consider her position as an antagonist vs as a villian. And perhaps I'm talking too much, but it just occurred to me cuz its also repeatedly been said that "this is all Alicents fault" when tbh? I really don't consider the men around her twisting her words (ex: the Strong with the foot fetish) or taking advantage of her beliefs (ex: her father and the council) to be entirely on her. Some of it? Absolutely, but certainly not all of it, and imo? Even if not through Alicent, I definitely still think many things would've gone quite the same if not worse,,as mentioned by yall on the couch when discussing that Otto and most of the council have had these plans in mind for a long time.

y’all ain’t ready for season 2 . it’s gonna be an absolute madness. blacks are about to go crazy cuz the greens violated . they didn’t tell rhaenyra and daemon the king died , and they were the two people who loved him the most and now they crown a rapist as king. and i don’t care what anyone says alicent always wanted aegon on the throne . cuz why would the king suddenly change his mind and he hasn’t done that for years. alicent needed one reason to put her son on the throne. I fullyyyyy agree with u Carter and canon, like it’s obvious that that The Greens are going to engage in a full scale war with rhanerya and house Velaryeon by proxy so it makes ZERO SENSE for Rhaneys to not kill them all right there. Now she just jepaordized her entire family and house. She also just killed like 300 peasants by coming up thru the floor but for some reason killing like 5 more people is too much for her. It’s an epic scene but I think it’s so dumb for her to spare them.

I have to say this: the changing of Alicent’s character traits, from Queen with a knife gunning for her son, to withering, teary widow…apparently astonished that her father would have plans to make Aegon king, might be the most incompetent concept since season 8. And that’s saying something…. She was BADASS in the book scene of the Green Small Council. She barred the doors and ran shit. Sucks they ruined this episode with adapting it so poorly.

I feel like Crispin' is written weirdly. He might have some sort of personality disorder, or at least extreme anger management issues lol. Either way, I don't think his anger towards Rhaenyra is because she rejected him, but rather because she coerced him into breaking his vows. He was able to get into his position without being part of some royal family, but almost had it all taken away. He still ultimately made the decision, but she REALLY coerced him. He might even be afraid that if he chose to not work for Alicent, she'd simply get rid of him. His character is harder to understand.

I love how much you guys love Rhaenys and believe she would have been an awesome queen. Could not agree more. The Queen Who Never Was is my #1 favorite character. The Sea Snake ranks pretty highly as well.

Regarding your pre-show discussion about other potential shows in this universe, I think they should continue to do pretty well as long as they get good screenwriters, and stay as close as possible to George R.R. Martin’s storylines. He already has quite a bit of material written that is based on this world. One of the primary reasons (but not the only one) that so many people had problems with the ending of Game of Thrones is because they strayed so far from the author’s story from Season five onward. And now you know the reason for so many big time jumps this season. They had to tell enough of the story to properly set-up the upcoming Targaryen civil war, which is what the following seasons will cover. I expect there will be a couple of time jumps throughout the rest of the series. But nothing like they had this season. The way that the White Worm found out about the King’s death is because the Queen’s maid lit that big candelabra and put it in the window of the Queen’s chamber, after the Queen told her to go nowhere. It must have been a pre-arranged signal. And you guys were right about that being the White Worm’s building on fire. I’m pretty sure that the hooded and cloaked man walking away from the burning building was wearing the firefly emblem of Larys Strong. Lots of people were creeped out by the foot fetish scene between Alicent and Larys. I think what Larys really gets out of this is that it’s such a power trip for him to have such control over the Queen. He has been shown to be pretty evil and I think he enjoys that he can humiliate her like that. If you go back to the Episode Six, where Alicent and Larys ate dinner together you will see that Alicent took off her shoes before she sat down to eat. At the time it just seemed like she was getting comfortable. But now it takes on additional significance. One of you suggested that Helaena might be the Weaver in Larys’ little spiderweb analogy. But I highly doubt that. Helaena has demonstrated the ability to have prophetic thoughts. I didn’t see you guys discuss this, but one of the most important times was how she foresaw Aemond losing an eye. And in both the last episode and this one, she kept saying “there is a beast beneath the boards.” After this episode most people think that was Helaena foreseeing Rhaenys bursting out with her dragon Meleys. Helaena also appears to not like people touching her and she has a kind of unworldly quality to her. Lots of people have suggested that they might be portraying her as being on the autistic spectrum. I just don’t see her as being the type of person that would be part of the castle spying and intrigue network. Lastly, I appreciate everyone’s disdain for Criston Cole. The actor and the show creators all described him as a “thug.” His character is someone who wasn’t from an important family. He was a soldier, who was obviously a good fighter and happened to be quite successful at a tournament. That got him the attention of Princess Rhaenyra, who was responsible for making him a King’s Guard. He is really quite lucky that he ended up in such an important place in this kingdom.

Alicent just took Vizzy T's words to a fault. She hadn't considered that Rhaenyra's Aegon could've also been who he meant and let Otto know before even thinking of that possibility, allowing Otto to brainwash and confirm to her it was A's Aegon not R's.
