Well, it seems pretty clear to me what he's saying: that Wrathia's spirit has hasd at least some "positive" influence on Ava according to Pedri.

Honestly, I was confused at first with death slime and lamprey. At first I thought he was talking about Nevy and somehow knew what happened. But then I read the comments and everything makes sense to me now. I guess he meant Ava like she was some parasite or something. I feel so dumb. :P Thanks everyone.

The dialogue is fine, as you said he does not know Pedri's wife is involved with Ava. So as a reader it looks like he is about to connect some dots that will cause stress and possibly hilarity to ensue. It works fine.
