I think this episode is the one where I went back and just re listened to every single song on the soundtrack. Nina Simone’s Stars is incredible and imo every single song chosen for this show manages to trigger something real deep out of me. Keep your head up out there chat

i don’t take it that the running horses were actually wild, just a look at horses on a better path, engaging in a healthy and natural social activity to bond together and help get through each days struggles. it’s bittersweet, it’s proof that there’s a different and better way for someone like him to be in the world, but there’s the darker angle, the feeling that he missed out at that life and being apart of the herd.

I don't think going back to what you're a really good at and what makes you feel fulfilled in life is a bad thing. The problem is finding a balance which is the real issue with Caroline and Diane to some extent. Caroline would also start feel miserable if she just stopped working, she's too much of a workaholic. She just needs to learn how to switch off agent/manager mode when she's off the clock but it's really hard for her since being agent for her was to be always on clock. Imo Ralph needs to set those boundaries instead of pushing her going cold turkey on her work. He's kinda supportive though so I can't really fault him for that. P.S. 51:46 Higurashi reference. P.P.S. I get ya about feeling like it's all BoJack fault (that Sarah Lynn died) but let's be real she wasn't a little girl on set of Horsing Around anymore. She was an adult, 32 or something, very tragic and self-destructive adult but she's responsible for her own decisions and to resolve her of that responsibility and push it all on BoJack is disingenuous. He's still a big part of it, don't get me wrong, but let's not infatalize Sarah Lynn because she was a cute girl with an effed up past. Those who were saying that 'it was a matter of time' and 'you could see this coming' maybe sound harsh and cynical but it's unfortunately true. If it wasn't with BoJack she'd ODed with someone else sooner or later. The sad thing is that was a high probability but still just probability and not a certainty. BoJack could contribute to make into a reality a small chance that Sarah would leave her self-destructive cycle eventually but he didn't. He just couldn't because he's kinda in that cycle himself.

Tying back in to my comment on last week's episode, one of the things bojack has been hellbent on doing is letting himself run wild. I feel like his car drive in episode 12 only gets recognized by fans as "self loathing" or being "suicidal" when i think theres a more nuanced way of putting it. Him letting go of the wheel is like giving letting a higher power take control and decide his fate. Almost like karmic retribution, with him not knowing if he deserves to live or die. Both of these instances arguably stem from his dialogue with The Closer in episode 7. He chooses to interpret her words "control is just a myth" in the worst way possible, teetering on the choice of holding on or letting go. He doesn't leave it in his own hands to take responsibility, but in the hands of the universe.

the amount of setup in this episode is crazy. i remember watching this when it came out, and when it ended i was like "oh my god season 4 is gonna be *messy*". its so cool!

With Diane I don't think it's about choosing between a fanbase and irl relationships. I think for her it's more about choosing between her ideals and her romantic relationship. Mr. Pb really doesn't understand alot of the things Diane believes in but her values are important to her. It's sort of hard to balance a relationship like that Also I like how you instantly mentioned asexuality, so many people don't know what that is or are just very unfamiliar with it so it's cool it popped up in your mind without the word being said I agree wholeheartedly with wanting Bojack to improve because you would want to believe that you yourself can improve. Especially as someone who's struggled with depression and some self destructive tendencies it hits close to home (although my issues arent to this extent thankfully)
