This episode blew everybody’s mind🤯🤯🤯

Nicholas & Heather

Narrator: "their loved ones wither and die" Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you.

Austin

So speaking of skirting around wishes, in Dungeons and Dragons my party was granted a wish each, so I waited until the rest of my party finished making wishes and then wished "I wish I also received what each of my party members wished for" and it was fantastic.

ModdedJoker

I personally like to think that dust comes from the literal dusting of ancient humanity. Like think about it when the god of darkness killed everyone they all turned to dust. So i think it would be cool if dust is the remnants of ancient humanity and its magic that's why it has magical properties. Also if you guys remember some of the early World of Remnant videos talk about the King of vale who ended the last great war among the four kingdoms, and what did his picture have? A crown (relic of choice) a sword (relic of destruction) and a staff (relic of creation). we can also assume he had the relic of knowledge. its just a cool thought that in a previous life Ozpin was the king of Vale.

Francheska

He just trying to get her to be good

Steffen Bauknecht

I am watching this for the first time, so no spoilers please, but I kinda symphatize with Salem. The gods seem like dicks in a way ("experiment", killing everybody, judging them). I also don't see what benefit it would have to bring them back, and risk judgement, when you could just live withoutthem. It's not like they magically make anything better.

AlexiMantic

Just as a note, no future spoilers, but it's still hotly debated whether or not the children of Oz and Salem ARE in fact the Maidens. My personal belief/theory is that they are not. They ARE however what sets in motion the creation of the Maidens. After the battle, Oz goes into a depression. I think that the whole 4 Maidens WoR is still true, and that the 4 women also reminded Oz of his own children and what they could have been if he had not been foolish and got them killed, getting him out of his depression and back to his task, and gifting them powers to continue to bring humanity together.

Brook

Aw yeah time for my favorite episode this season.

Flashback007

Probably my favorite episode of the entire series

Tone

I assume Salem's goal is to gather all of the relics together, which will summon the gods, humanity will be judged as not redeemed, the world will be destroyed, and Salem can finally die (or if not die, she will have brought about immense destruction upon humanity.)

ChiefChill

It’s not wishes though. It’s questions. Ask a question and it will answer

FosterFarms

Yeah I'm glad Rick agreed with wording problem of his question

Oh interesting, I never thought about how dust could essentially be the ashes of humanity when the god of darkness ended it all. Such a good episode.

Coogman3

#SalemDidNothingWrong

Azurai

I'm still caught on the fact that Jinn said "You can't." As in, Ozpin can't.

Nicholas & Heather

thoughts... if Salem is the "witch" is she going to melt with the Water from the pool of life ?

Alexander Mullins (Valathor95)

I’ve watched this episode so many times at this point, only now did I realize why the pool of light probably doesn’t exist anymore, it got hit with a piece of the moon!

ArcaneAnomaly
>>20850668

Yeah, I agree. It seems to show in her actions, and even spelled out in her theme song. She probably could eradicate humanity if she just pushed all the Grimm into full-on attack mode, and just plow through the major cities. And yet, she doesn't. She doesn't need mankind destroyed. She just needs the divided.

AlthosHol

Incoming text wall!!! Number 1: The maidens are not related to his children in any way. Ozpin states that creating the maidens drained him of most of his power. The story they told of the wizard was probably how it happened. He had all his power and eventually decided to empower 4 "maidens" with some of it and drained himself in the process. Number 2: I don't think humans "evolved" again. I think it's more like the God of Light eventually restored a portion of humanity. Otherwise, Salem was around for hundreds of thousands of years....by herself. Number 3: I can no longer see Salem as the Villain. I see her as a victim of the gods. She was a grieving woman who had the only person who ever loved her die. The gods were selfish and childish. The god of light told her no, but never said anything about not asking the god of darkness. According to the god's themselves, they are supposed to be equals. She had every right to ask the other if one denied her and she never lied to Darkness. She simply did not bring up the fact that she had already spoken to his brother. So she gets Ozma back, feels a small measure of happiness and hope only for it to be taken from her....then given back...then taken away again....a grieving woman is essentially emotionally tortured and then told that her "punishment" is to never have the chance to be with her love again, taking the last small bit of comfort she had left. It's no wonder she wanted vengeance on them. I think most would have. Then the GoD kills ALL of humanity because a small number attacked him. That is pure pettiness. Regarding all of the evil she's committed since....well Jinn did say that the pool of darkness transformed her into a creature that could only desire destruction. Losing Ozma a final time in what she probably saw as a betrayal, likely destroyed the last bit of compassion she had. She now exists to only torment Ozpin and I think Jinn is right. Salem cannot be "defeated", but more likely she has to be "saved". Perhaps they use the water from the pool of creation to purify her and remove the taint that has taken her over? I have too much time on my hands and am way too invested in this show....I apologize profusely.

Well, it's probably either that or just fragments of the moon irradiated from the God of Darkness' power.

SpeedyCat19

Damn, Eric out here looking like Shane watching the Walking Dead, straining to hear everything

SpeedyCat19

Also, I'm really glad Rick joined these reactions. He's great!

For the 1st two points, I have some countering. With regards to the Maidens, we still have no confirmation either way. While I do think that the 4 Maidens story is true, and that the women only REMINDED Oz of his kids, nothing has been said whether it's true or not Second, I have to disagree. With the references in both songs and the opening speech from Salem in Episode 1 Volume 1, I do think that humans did go through proper evolution to exist once again. The God of Light mentioned that humans will grow to walk on Remnant once again, implying it will take a while, and he left just after. He could have HELPED in the process, but we still don't know. And the origin of the Faunus is still a mystery, and knowing that might answer it.

Theodore C
>>20852338

Hmm interesting point, however, i don't really see Salem as a victim. Everyone dies, its part of a balance. She couldnt accept that even when the god of light told her and she tried to sneakily get her way with the god of darkness and it backfired. Yes her punishment was pretty harsh however, the gods said "you must learn the importance of life and death, only then may you rest" so she still had a chance to be saved and become mortal again if she took the time to learn the lesson the gods were trying to teach her. I dont think the gods were selfish, they just cant bring back the loved ones of every person that comes to them grieving of their loss. there has to be balance. I think she still has to learn her lesson of understanding life and death for her curse to be removed so she can be saved.

Namikaza
>>20851179

I mean, she has made mistakes, but what happened wasn't her fault. In my opinion the fault lies by the gods. They are childish and petty. I mean, they kill all of mankind, because they are mad at one women? If they would live among the humans again, who would guarantee them, that this wouldn't happen a second time?

Doby Greg

Haven't seen the rest of season yet but If you don't want the wishes/questions in the wrong hands and your plans is to keep them hidden forever. Ask 3 stupid questions before hiding them. That's the first thing that came to me and I hope they mention why it wasn't done as I go along.

Avah

Most important fact that Kerry pointed out is this is ep. 69. Nice

shfhthgh

I find it interesting that you compared Salem to Pandora, since Pandora was specifically made by the gods as a punishment to men. She was the first woman and she unleashed the contents of her 'box' on the men deliberately, destroying the paradise that had existed previously. She was also described as being evil, but what made her evil was that she was pretty, but also smart - that was it. The guy who wrote the story of Pandora had serious issues with women. TLDR: Watch Overly Sarcastic Productions' video on Pandora, its a better summery than this.

Doby Greg

The story of the flashback was pretty good and well executed. I like that it goes dark sometimes. Salem is a little much in the begening but love make people unreseanable. After immortality I understand the rest although I don't like I'm evil because I fell in a pool that makes me evil. I love the storytelling method. And I appreciate that the brothers actually cooperate with each other rather than cliché rivalry. They feel like actual brothers. Reminds me supernatural. But where the F did this new humanity come from? The god made sure to destroy everyone except salem. Also considering they are immortal I would probably sspend a couple thousands years to see if I can fix humanity before considering bringing the gods back.

Doby Greg
>>20848700

He tried to kidnap Salem's children. I would consider that wrong. And while not necessarily wrong he could probably have spend a couple thousand years rebuilding without the gods rather than defaulting to his mission.

Doby Greg
>>20849794

I was thinking the same but They could probably make the planet better as in climate, vegetation, stuff like that, And right now it sucks.

Doby Greg
>>20850668

I think she wants to destroy them or make them unusable to Ozpin. She knows the gods will never kill her(they left her in a barren world) and she is finally free of their will. No way she's bringing them back.

Doby Greg
>>20852338

On point 2 I call BS on Salem not doing nothing wrong when trying to bring Osma. If your mom tell you you can't to the party you know full well you shoudn't ask your dad. She knew full well she shouldn't have asked the other god once the first refused. But considering how storngly they punished her and how she felt in the pool of evil(that's lazy) I understand not being able to root against her or see her as a villain. I wish Oz had tried harder with her. They are immortal the had the time to try making it work. But yes they went to far in punishing her ad immortality was pure torture move on their parts. I can even understand scraping the experiment. They made them, they became annoying and they scraped it to move to something else. but they really took the thing way to personally when they destroyed humanity but still left her there. I think the gods are more prideful than childish.

Doby Greg

I was thinking the girls survived and them intermingling with normal humans gave birth to semblances? Or maybe it was inside them all along and Ozpin had to teach them because they don't know what magic is?

Brandon

Do u think dust is dead people what the dark god kill

AlthosHol
>>20852338

@phil True enough.. All we really have is the s01e01 opening saying humanity "rose from dust". I guess I took post s06e03 as the God of Light having at minimum helped humanities return. We see, during the scenes showing Salem wondering, that the grimm have taken over. I just find it hard to imagine early humans able to survive long enough to make a comeback.

AlthosHol
>>20852338

@Theodore I get that, but if the "balance" is so important, as in it'll damage reality, I think the God of Darkness would have denied her too. It seems to me it's more that the gods Agreed what the "balance" should be and Light did not want anything to break "their" rules. Besides, how does it not damage the balance to curse someone with immortality and then to grant someone the ability to reincarnate into a new body, effectively making them immortal. Seems to me messing with life and death is only wrong when it's not the God of Light who wants to do the messing.

Andrew Brough

When the God of Darkness destroyed humanity they all turned to dust. Remember the narration in episode one of season one? "Man, born from Dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful." My theory is that something of the old humanity remained in their dust and evolved back into humans over billions of years.

Andrew Brough

Also undeniable proof that Salem is NOT on the moon. Her lair is in the Land of Darkness where the old God of Darkness lived.

Indexsage
>>20849473

lol and here i thought that it came from the moon cuss of the god of darkness hitting it with his magical teleport beam and he being the one that killed and absorbed all that magic from them humans

Indexsage

osma said how do i destroy Salem so maybe she was talking about that he cant destroy her right was this already discussed cuss this has been out for a long while now so maybe he cant but someone else can

xsithspawnx

I completely disagree with the statement that all of this is Salem's fault. Salem just wanted Ozma back and did everything she could to make that happen. In a world with magic if someone you loved died would you not even try to bring them back? Why does not accepting death make her a villain? The gods arbitrarily decided that humans should be mortal when they clearly had the capability to do otherwise (we see them grant immortality and reverse death). They go on preaching about how humans should just accept their fate of life and death while not having to do so themselves. They're hypocritical assholes with giant egos. The god of darkness was on board with bringing Ozma back because his ego was stroked by Salem asking for his help. He only turned against Salem because once he learned that she had already tried asking his brother for help first he realized he was just being treated as the second choice again. His comments to the god of light prior to him learning of this (about how the agreement between them favored the god of light, ect) clearly reflect an inferiority complex. He's capricious and vengeful while the god of light is a sanctimonious prick. Point being, the gods set this whole situation into motion by setting up the rules how they were and then insisting that the humans live by them whether they liked it or not. Salem challenging that was an attack on their authority and egos. They're tyrants and reacted like tyrants do when they face opposition. Even when Salem gathered humanity to challenge the gods she was acting to free them from the tyranny forced onto them and herself. She may not have relayed the whole truth to those she led, but her other choice was to meekly accept the judgement passed on her for the oh so heinous crime of wanting a loved one brought back to life. In the end she became the heartless monster we see now only through an accident brought about by her attempt to escape the hopeless situation she'd been put in by those same self righteous gods. TLDR; Salem did nothing wrong and the gods are dicks.

Indexsage

i guess the moral of the story here is ask the evil brother (that docent get much attention) first lol

Mieguy
>>20849794

I don't think the Gods were dicks, more that since they are fallible they don't foresee the consequences of all their actions which backfired on them a lot. In a way humanity was their first experiment of a creation made by both of their respective natures together. And after seeing this to me it seems like Ozpin's plan was to hide the relics so that they could never be brought together until a time, if it ever happened, that humanity could be judged redeemed by the gods. Hence with his past lives he created the Huntsman Academies to help strengthen humanities civilisations so that they could work towards progress without the threat of worrying about Salem destroying them all with Grimm. But yeah all that humanity would gain by having the gods back is that they'd all have magic again, the pay off versus the potential risk is not worth it.

Namikaza
>>20852338

But the point is, that the God of Darkness was willing to break the rules he made with his brother. He liked the fact, that a human put his faith in him and not his brother. How is that not childish for a god? And what would have happened, if Salem would have gone to him first? He would have granted her wish for the same reason. Of course it's wrong to bring the dead back to life, but the God of Darkness didn't care. Only the fact, that Salem asked his brother first, made him turn on her. If both of the gods would have stand true to this rule, Salem couldn't have done anything!

Doby Greg
>>20863836

If you ask your dad a to let you go to a party and he says no. Then you go to your mom to ask about the same party while intentionally making sure that she doesn't find out your other parent already said no then you are doing something wrong. If after they ground you you try to slap your mom you did something wrong. The god didn't stop her from resurrecting Ozma she came asking them a favor. A favor they could accept or refuse. They refused and she decided to trick them. And when they found out and took the favor away she lashed out and tried to attack them. And when punished she tried to kill them. I think Salem took understandable decisions considering her grief and the gods could have been more understanding and way less harsh in their punishment but that doesn't mean Salem didn't make mistakes and take understandable but questionable acts. I'd probably perjure myself to not let my family go to prison and most would understand but it's still a wrong act. And yes I think the narration cut the gods way to much slack. I think immortality was a harsh and disproportionate decision. They took away the one thing she wanted because of a lapse of judgement in a vulnerable time. You can argue the need to set an example for future people but still incredible torture. Rapidely age her or something. But I mostly feel bad for humanity that got wiped out because no one wanted to back down. Still great storytelling despite the obvious bias. Haven't felt this positive about the show since s3. And as an episode it might the most well crafted in the show. And I was not positive after s5.

Doby Greg
>>20851179

I would definitely be for keeping the gods out but the planet is shit and they make it a decent living place again . And clearly Ozpin refuse to try fixing the place.

Doby Greg
>>20851400

Considering the extensive explanitive it just gave everyone I would consider it cheap if suddenly she was the type to try tricking you because you didn't phrase it perfect. If twist is needed I would prefer if it simply that appeared recently as in maybe the silver eyes didn't exist yet when he asked or a special semblance. But no "you didn't ask the right question". If it was that kind of Genie no way they would get such an extensive lore drop.

Namikaza
>>20851179

But the Grimm already existed right? They came from the God of Darkness.

LadyOfLilies
>>20858020

Nope, the daughters died in that battle between Ozma and Salem. After that, Jinn says Ozma spend lifetimes mourning. I think it was in one of these past lives he encountered the maidens, they made him realize again life is precious and he granted them their powers as a gift.

Haughtbreaker Nic
>>20863836

The correct comparison would be you asked mom, she said no, you asked dad, he said yes, your parents found out, and they locked you in the basement from ever seeing another person again, and put up a TV screen so you could watch your friends and family having fun without you for the rest of their lives. And yes, one day you finally find a way to break free and try to kill them. Would that still be your fault? Sure. But mostly your parents fault. And to be clear, it is all the fault of the god of darkness. He and his brother had an agreement, a balance they agreed on and he found a chance to one up his brother, thinking Salem was coming to him first, and he decided to break the agreement he had with his brother. If he had just said no, Salem would have been able to grieve naturally.

dave_ehm
>>20849794

God of light: He cannot be returned, balance must remain. Also god of light: Lemme bring Ozma back forever
