I'm guessing he has his own red thread and is wondering about his own future. Hard to say if he's on the Ned side or the Doug side of expectation. Though, come to think of it, all we know about Doug at this point was that he accepted the situation graciously. Well, outside of Mom being ready to skillet any stranger he brought home.
