November 2025 Newsletter (Patreon)
Content
Hello all. I hope you had a good Halloween - all those who celebrate - and did not get eaten by a ghost.
I think most of you know what to expect from me in terms of streams and content in the near future. We've found a decent cadence and so you can continue to expect IUTK streams every Thursday, the supporters' community playtesting stream every other Wednesday, my dev streams on Tuesdays, and longer video essays coming out at a rate of roughly once a month.
I'm going to use the rest of this newsletter mainly to give a bunch of "Thanks"! We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK (why would we) but I still like the idea of a holiday based primarily around thankfulness... and doing strange things to sweet potatoes. 🍠
Thanks to everyone who checked out the script for the October video essay on FUN a few weeks before the filming happened. I'll try to continue working in this way, sharing preparation materials with paid members ahead of time. This gives you guys a bonus without paywalling anything which should be public, and also gives me reason to be a bit more structured in my planning. I predict that the next year of video essays really being a case of going back and consolidating older material into more focused videos with a bit more shelf-life.
Thanks to my partner Ibi who has been really supportive over the last year of getting this channel up and running. You may know her from our Discord, and also our occasional podcast on Games, Language and Culture - Say It Like You Play It.
Thanks to everyone who bought Chris Z's marketing course over the summer using my affiliate codes. To give full transparency, this collaboration has been the single largest income source for IGC during the summer months and was really helpful in enabling me to transition to focusing full-time on the channel and our Discord community. If you've found the course helpful (or not) I'd love to hear from you, so feel free to shoot me a DM. It helps me work out whether to do similar things again in future. Chris' summer sale is now over on most stuff, but my shared affiliate links still give me 50% of the profit when you buy the courses. So if you're interested, the highest value thing you can get there is this bundle.
Thanks to Tom, my co-host on the Game Developers Library, for agreeing to read a LOT of books with me.
Thanks to all the Free tier members who continue to read these newsletters. I'm turning 39 on the 13th of November and there will be a membership sale on that day only, so keep your eyes peeled if you've been thinking of joining but unable to justify the cost up until now.
Thanks to everyone who signed up for 1:1 mentoring in the last few months. You've all made great progress at your games and some folks have already built up the confidence to move on from the program. I hope you all continue to find success in what you're doing, and helpful collaborative relationships in the Discord and beyond.
Best of luck to everyone this month, whether you're hard at work with your game projects or doing something more existentially important.
- Joe
