September 2026 IGC Updates (Patreon)
Content
Greetings! Here's a quick look at what's coming up in the Indie Game Clinic community this month, and a round-up of what happened in August in case you missed anything. There's also a code at the bottom for Free members to upgrade in the first week of September.
Coming up in September
🔪 Indies Under the Knife Stream Schedule:
1st: Dpt. of Gravity Mgmt / Moon Machinica
8th: I Am The Sword / Today I Will Destroy You / Six Slashes
10th: Prototypes [Backroom Slayer / Where is My Phone / Marballs / Simon Says / Trap Stop / Healer]

24th: Trials of Liberation / Gundig / Rat-tle / Quantum Quartz
29th: Kairos / Vega Chronicle
Don't forget to click "notify me" on the streams you're interested in. There's always a chance I may have to mess around with times, so please trust the times listed on YouTube rather than anywhere else [I'm still in the process of trying to automate the calendar which posts event reminders on Discord] There are two or three games which had been waiting in the public queue, but the developers have since become members so I fast-tracked them into this month's streams. Thanks for your support!
❓ Members' Q&A
This month's Q&A Questions will be: 1. Victor on time management and juggling multiple things.2. Voidy Toidy on the pressure to do early promotion/marketing.3. Supermutt Games on prototyping in atmosphere/animation-driven games.
These are questions sent in from members in the 🔵 and 🟣 membership tiers, but the video responses are for all members. You can find the videos-so-far over here. People seem to be finding them useful so far; they're a little too dry to be the sort of thing I'd want to put out on the main channel, and there may be some months coming up where I take a break from doing them, but so far they seem to be a welcome addition to the Patreon content!
📼 Other Videos and Podcasts
This month you'll hear Cheese, Cabbage and myself discuss Oregon Trail and a few more modern games like it over on One More Run! So far this series has been a really great way of making sure we play a new game or two each month, and playing this wide variety of run-based-games is really shining a light on how the modern use of "roguelike" is so broad as to be almost meaningless. ICYMI in August; Ball x Pit on One More Run! and our 9th book on the Game Developers' Library was Next Level by Mike Cook. This month we're reading Achievement Relocked by Geoff Engelstein, a book all about loss aversion and how it's used in game design.
This month I'm also working on a longer video essay about board games and how understanding them will make you better at designing videogames. I'd like to say this will be out by the end of September, but it's hard to say with these longer ones. But, as always, members will get the video a few days in advance of it going live on YouTube.
🔐 Bonus BTS Material: Book Chapter Drafts
Folks in the 🟠 and 🟣 membership tiers should be able to expect a big chunk of book draft at least once a month in the run-up to me submitting the manuscript for Game Design for Indie Developers. August's chapter draft was about something called The Premature Professionalism Problem and coming at the end of September will be a section on what "indie" means.
