Perfect just what I needed

The conversion machine is hard to explain basically picture it as digitizing what you currently are into another form. He’d be a soul but, what the machine converted would be his human body so he’d just go there as a spiritually aware, weak, unable to fight, human. The others’ powers are all apart of their human bodies (no Gigai or anything needed) so they don’t have to get knocked into spirit form to use them. And now that we’re within 20 episodes of it, hey Baris if you see this can you watch 38 and 39 together if you’re able to? You’ll see why.

if ichigo went through the gate as is it would covert him to a normal soul he would be stuck in his body and not as a soul reaper

Ichigo can't turn into a Soul Reaper by himself. He needs Kon or he needs to be pushed out of his physical body. If he went with his physical body, he would be in the soul society in his physical form.
