A chat with Vigil. (Patreon)

Vigil entered a studio where a national podcast had been set up for him. He wore his usual 3 piece suit, looked fresh out of the parlour and had that confident aura that most people of his status would have.
“Mr Vigil,” the faceless questioner said joyfully. “Billionaire philanthropist, Martial artist, Military strategist and advisor. But we don't stop there, do we? On top of that you're constant face in men's magazines, though that seems to have faded these past few weeks," the questioner chuckled.
Vigil raised his hand in defence, giving a rare smile. "I haven't had the time for photoshoots, so it's no surprise I'm not on the front page."
"Well, you need to be, Mr. Vigil. Think of all the women out there who miss you!" The questioner laughed again. "I love my job. Now! You've had quite a successful career if you look at the multiple orphanages around the continent, and your shares with GKM and other companies among so many things, I was surprised to find a long list. How did you come to achieve such a feat?”
Vigil gave that rare smile once again, showing his perfect white teeth. “I won't be modest. I won't say that it was all God and that without his help, I would never be here. Saying such things is stating the obvious. He has helped me along the way but God only helps those who help themselves.”
Vigil leaned forward confidently, resting his elbows on the table, chest puffed out, looking exactly like a billionaire playboy. He put up the act so well, that no one would question otherwise. “And no one but God helped me.”
The audience clapped and the questioner laughed. “Now that is quite a statement. Bold and charismatic. Unfortunately, we only have time for another question as you requested. There's a certain…” The questionnaire leaned forward, smiling devilishly. “Character that we've heard of in the orphanage, that seems to have caught your eyes. You have already adopted Micheal. Are you-”
“No,” Vigil said suddenly, the smile on his face fading away before it came back again and turned into a burst of laughter, so natural, no one would question the genuineness of it. “Yes, I know about the individual you're talking about. Blaine right?”
“There's another one,” The questioner said thoughtfully, before giving a sudden smiling.
Before he could say anything, Vigil interrupted, “Ah yes! You've got a keen eye.” He teased laughingly. His eyes sparkled in a way, that no one would question his happiness. “But yes, it would be a lie to say they aren't my favourite. Someone like that is born once every century. You can't help but like them.”
The questioner smiled, satisfied. “Well, everyone. Mr Vigil.” He said and shook his hand.

Vigil walked out of the studio and into the Limo. Micheal laughed as he looked at his father's irritated face. “Billionaire playboy huh?”
Vigil gave him a disappointed look.
“If you're still poor after three millennia you should just hand yourself to the church.”
Micheal glanced at Vigil but said nothing.
“This talk of my two pupils has me yearning for them,” Vigil said, leaning back against his seat and looking out the window. His usual look had fallen upon him. “Take me to the church. The new year is in a few hours.”
