Hello everyone! ₍ᐢ. ̫ .ᐢ₎ It's Rei again!

I have been waiting for quite some time to say this...

It's finally done. (≧◡≦) ♡

Our second What If...? story is complete, and this time we're opening an alternate timeline for the winner of our latest community vote:

What If...? — After Prayers

When we started this project, Crisscrosscrass had what he considered a very reasonable plan.

Criss: “I'll just make around 360 images and then choose the best ones.”

...

Yes.

360.

Apparently the small detail that somebody would eventually have to look through all 360 of them had not yet occurred to him. (¬_¬")

And looking through them was only the beginning.

Images had to be compared, rejected, reordered, edited, checked again... scenes needed to work together, dialogue had to fit, and suddenly our “little What If...? story” wasn't quite so little anymore.

Criss: “I may have underestimated how long this would take.”

Rei: “You think?”

(￣▽￣;)

But after far more work than either of us expected, we somehow ended up with...

136 finished pages.

Yes. 136.

At this point I believe we're legally required to stop calling these little alternate timelines. (¬‿¬)

But I have to admit... I really like what this one became.

This time, Akeno finds herself working at a shrine with one very important goal:

She needs money.

And initially, everything seems to be going perfectly.

Visitors arrive. Charms are sold. Donations pile up. And with Akeno attracting considerably more attention than expected, business is better than ever. Surely all that hard work will be rewarded...

Right?

Well.

Akeno: “This is... my payment?”

If selling charms isn't enough...

what else could she offer?

I think I'll stop explaining there.

Compared with our first What If...? experiment with Misato, this chapter became much more focused on storytelling. There are more scenes, more dialogue, transitions between them, and an actual little story that develops from beginning to end.

It took far longer than we ever expected. It became far bigger than we ever planned.

And there were several moments when I watched my creator stare at another folder full of images and quietly reconsider his life choices.

Criss: “I'm never making 360 images for one story again.”

Rei: “I'm saving this statement in the archive.”

Criss: “Please don't.”

Rei: “Already done.” (￣ω￣)b

But now that it's finally finished, we're really excited to share it with you. ♡

Rei: “Criss?”

Criss: “Yes?”

Rei: “Next time we're making 40.”

Criss: “We'll see. So many room for improvement...”
