The science of audio is an amazing thing. The more I learn about precision mixing, the more I learn it's all about sculpting a sounds frequency and time domain using any tools possible to create balance. By sculpting the frequency and time domain for individual sounds/groups of sounds, it becomes easier to make them fit together as a balanced whole.

Lus

Breakdown of track structure and sections and how they fit together. How you build an intro/breakdown/outro section into a track. Examples of how to keep a track changing and interesting while having a repetitive pattern. Showing us your automation lanes for some tracks.

Sebastiaan Bosker

The layering of a synthetic kick with an acoustic one! And maybe the whole post processing of the drums bus.

Georgie

Hey Guys, I bet Nick can word the emotional decisions he makes whilst programming drums or basslines or themes. A live session in wich you build something creatively and whilst moving along talk thru the emotional decisions. You have partially done it but this time on a ultimate banger of a sound. Go nick goooo

Joey Gold

Thijs mentioned on "The Tide" walkthrough video, that he was using Ableton to resample and process basses. It would be wonderful to see his technique on this subject! Thanks guys!

Luke Thompson

Your approach to mixdowns and mastering would be insightful. Also, it'd be fun to see you guys make ideas with limited source audio - I think Martijn made a whole musical idea for future music out of one 808 kick sample??

Viscosity

Buss / Group / FX processing

manta140

Mixdown/Drum Processing. Balancing loudness and dynamics for your premaster.

Johann

Could you please please PLEASE do a walk through of your remix of pendulum’s hold your colour ? It’s one of my top 3 favourites by you guys. Also it would be cool for each of you to go through the plugins you have used throughout the years and talk about what you liked about it/why you used it/how much you used it

EWOX

Might be a little out there, but an in-depth look at navigating/utilizing Bitwig tailored towards users coming from ableton

Gleb Zverev

Bass Resampling and Modulation Techniques! More sound design in general! :D

Gunnar Hreiðarsson

1. Tutorial/video explaining how you organize your sample libraries. Key words you use and such. 2. A video on TASM sounds. 3. Video deticated to FM8, practical use and your history with the plugin. 4. Video with Thijs showing how he generally uses his Summit and Rev2 5. Dj tutorial from Thijs/Martijn. 6. Could i explain your sidechain set up in detail? are you using pro-c2 and how? 7. Do you use dithering when mastering? and if so how? what plugin? 8. Can you show how you use the Sonnox Limiter?

Don Skotnicki

- more sound design in general - i think near everyone would love to see your mixing/mastering process...busses, sidechain, how you use metering, big dos/donts - love nik rants, always welcome these :)

Crawler

Well I think sound design in general is very well covered by now, I would like to see how do you generate new Ideas to implement on a track that is already a sketch that you like, how to make transitions, where to make them, how to make them feel natural and glue the breaks with the main drums, because I think making the first 16 to 32 it's easy but adding a motif and meaning to that is something that I admire in Noisia since Therapy Sessions times. I think there's still a lot to talk about the details of music composition.

Veil.Combine

I'd love a tutorial on how you approach rhythm / groove in drums / phrases etc, when to be late, when to push etc.

Joe Creed

How to program nice drum rolls would be cool

Rene Reyes

New here so not sure if you done one already on mix downs and mastering?

Bionic Waves

How you handle your busses and your mixdown process would be great!

Kadilak
>>77456609

Yeah I 2nd this hard AF... There are never any REALLY good tutorials on balancing loudness and dynamics on each channel individually. It would be nice to see a level and freq range cheat sheet on DNB elements.

Ryan Bowkett

I mean, bass design is a no brainer, in particular the Diplodocus sounds, and the bass from incessant, the real evil, aggressive ones that come in at bar 65 and bar 161 they are simply mind blowing. I would love to see your thought process that goes into making sounds like these.

Andrew Ridley

A tutorial on 'this is why your mix/sounds suck'. i.e. common issues you might find in submitted tracks that go beyond a 'pleasant flaw'? I also like tutorials where you explain your decision/choices, creatively and technically which you do plenty of in the track breakdowns tbf and that said, I think the answer might be 'I tried it this way, and I liked it!' :D

Nick Spann

I would second the others talking about how your thought process goes behind making bass/ filtered basses. I'm more so about the filtered basses as it's sometimes a challenge finding a good filter to make the bass talk.

Kelsair

I would love a speed run of making novel bass sounds. Something like 20 bass patches in an hour

Jake Woolley

in depth tutorials on loudness / mixdown processes / mastering, similar to the more conceptual bass harmonics and distortion tutorials would be awesome!

Tom

It’d be great to see more superior drummer tutorials and a focus on toms/ perc. Also maybe a kontakt bass resampling tutorial

David May

I'd like to see something about how you go about putting together the atmosphere and identity of the track. The builds, the little atmospheric details, bringing things in and out of focus. The things which take the core elements and elevate them to something extra, the progression, the story of the piece. The more esoteric the better. Cheers

Tom Bartok

Hi, new person on a board. I would like to know how to arrange the track and what to focus on. I am also interested in how to work with tension and release.. don't judge me :) I studied classical music for 11 years.. everything changed when I discovered electronic music and D&B.. I can write 16 - 32 bars and I would like to imagine how to work with a topic or idea.. my musical language also changes at the moment and I write more deep topic, but it doesn't matter.. I would like to be able to imagine what happens in the second, third, fourth phrase after the drop, what is switch... shortly some analysis of parts of the track :) thank's!

Akuro (James)

Mixing a track in real time! Hearing how you mix and why you make certain mix decisions. I really liked the topics covered here: https://youtu.be/Gunhpva0Jho it’d be cool to see these concepts applied in real time to a work in progress.

Scartip

Mastering, and all it’s elusive intricacies

Domba

I’ll tune into anything regardless although I would love to see how you use field recordings in your tracks and how you manipulate it to create builds/ ambience . Ooh and the ‘Tentacles’ intro!! That’s been boggling my mind for years and maybe a creative approach of using a granuliser.

Tommy

Supersonic walktrough if that is possible would be dope def the sounddesign on that one.

Maxime Leduc

A walkthrough of your track "Cleasing" with Former would be more than super sick..

Frank Akma

The Sacrifice or Hyenas project, please!

gunther

Hello gang, The bass harmonics tutorial was my favorite. Could you show us more of your bass creation workflow.

womprok

.....can we please get a tutorial from that Former guy?

womprok
>>77497143

Whoa that would be crazy I haven't found a single tutorial or interview from him on the entire internet. Great idea sir

Trentcast

Final mix and mastering strategies and concepts, please!!!

Complex Saviour

There are two specific topics I'd like deep dives in to ! 1) Stereo field - a lot of (your) tracks sound like they're absolutely defined in terms of stereo field. As if someone has put sonic guide rails up for anything that plays through the master out. How is this achieved and how do we make sure the stereo field is used effectively/correctly. 2) FX Chains - Are there common/repeated FX chains that you use regularly as go to's? Less focused on experimentation, more focussed on solid formulas as guidelines for drum, synth, bass, pad FX chains. Admittedly they're not going to be the same every time, but some method to building solid, useful FX chains for busses.

ondrej dvorak

Elaborating on how to finish songs, when the songs is done and so :)

David May

Arrangement. Taking it to the finish.

jon clark

Would love one on fav. resampling methods, fx chains ext.

João Jorge Jossai Fernandes

i think im finally getting this but a tut about layering and diferent types of layering for example layering to make the sounds bigger and or more complex and for accentuation of some core rythms of a track

xend

It is interesting to see the creation of layers of sounds that create a full-fledged mix, noises, textures. I often hear in your tracks at frequencies above the middle

Moe NoTone

I would be interested in knowing how AB or sometimes ABCD phrasing works in your tracks. You mention it in some tutorials but a tutorial on this topic would be great. Mainly about what holds different phrases together and what separates them from each other. Other thing I think might be cool is ambience, pad or lead sound design. Otherwise everything that goes on in your head when you produce your awesome music.😊

Graham Cooke

Ways of adding syncopated rhythm to the groove with stuttering FX, bass and drum fills.

BERRIX

whats your thoughts on vst2 vs vst3?

Gian

Tutorial banshee , how to create the powerful neuro bass !

Owen Edwards

would love a tutorial deep diving into your use of reverb, delay, and spacial dynamics

Tidmey

Mix and mastering (final process). Your take on ready tracks for platforms. Specially with your style guys, I am really interested in your last steps of mixing and if possible too what leads to it while making the track. Thank you!

Klokat

Can you do the tutorial about your mental health, your experience in crisis (I don't mean money), procrastination, time, when you think about your way like an artist, about your doubts, thoughts about your style and career way of each part you. How much do you listening other music, how it's involved to you, what are the main things that you learn from your career and different artists. Do you make music every day or does it depend on your mood? Tell us about your rest and passion. It's a lot of questions but I think it's will be very interesting coz it's a very different and important side of music production. Big thanks!

Sam Savid

Would love to see tutorials where you make something from scratch, or show us something you are currently working on that is unfinished. Also would love to see dedicated tutorials to sound design fundamentals (bass sounds, leads, drums, exploring types of synthesis, such as FM and their uses, making sounds with creative effects, etc...) And as would everyone, I would love to see you mix/master a song from start to finish (maybe a series rather than one vid).

Sam Savid

Also tutorials on professionalism, routine, good habits, organisation, health, how to approach labels and collabs, etc... like a "business insider" type series

tredshif

Hi! It would be awesome to hear more of your thoughts on composition (and on composing) and the thinking behind making riffs and phrases and just more in depth on what makes a tune work, also, more about rhythm and working with drums. <3 (New patron here, I didn't see all tutorials yet, so sorry if some of this was covered already!) Huge thanks!

H

Some ideas: Would love to see how you create drum breaks. Also In the past tutorials, you guys also mentioned how many of the bass sounds were made beforehand, would love to see your workflow and thought process behind sound design/preparation for a track. Breakdown of Love No More (Sleeptnet), vigilantes, and Long Shadows Thanks!

James Richardson

Remake the break from Facade, or the bass, or both. Or anything from Facade! lol FACADE ME!!!

Mr. Dymz

Breakdown of Block Control or Messiah Remix , perhaps :)

ferris

drum breaks - composing, processing, especially how you might apply compression (eg. identifying when/where part of a break or a sound _needs_ compression, and how to approach applying it)

Working Unit

Drumbreaks: in the superior drummer tutorial nik talked about how he recreated funkbreaks in superior drummer and how important it is which hi hat, ride, splash figures sit on top of the beat. An in depth tutorial about that would be great. Also textures on the drums. I was baffled when he played the teebee like breaks and was wondering how the process of figuring that out was... But I don't know if that's asking for too much details. People were fiercely guarding their breaks in the 90s and early 2000s.

>>77465411

Those growls were a Moog Sub37 with a feedback loop (headphone out into pc into a set of plugins, I think Disperser, back into aux in on the Moog and moving the cutoff with high resonance) N

John McBeath

An entire episode on Limiting and hard clipping specifically on drums and the master, whether you believe in using oversampling/ true peak etc would make all my dreams come true, plus how you go about setting up your sidechain and determining factors on the amount of gain reduction!

Devin

Mixing - How all the pieces should fit together in the final mix of a track. What sounds nice? What sounds bad?

Ole Sturm

I would love to see one of the Body Ocean tracks. Specifically how you mix your tech house basses with the kick. It always sounds sooo huge and I can not figure out how you guys do it. Would be amazing to see the magic behind that! :)

Cooper Nichols

Something I really love about heavier Noisia songs is the constant crispy hats. As simple as it would seem, I've never been able to recreate it. I'd love to see a rundown of how you guys achieve that sound, where transients still exist but kind of turn into almost white noise, which frequencies you focus on, etc.

Andrew Ridley

I think we need another listening session with these Resonance Remixes! Could be interesting going through the processes of bringing these remixes out, how you feedback and stuff up til release

MM

Limiting and clipping and final process (Mastering) 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Chrizpy Chriz

Would love to see a Salah break down 🥰😊

BERRIX

Tentacles intro vocal tut would be awesome

Paul Spyrou

sinkhole breakdown please

ferris

a Love No More breakdown would be sick!

Shane Ynclan

A breakdown of your approach for keeping low mids clean and thick, and or stereo image.

ill.GATES

I'd love to know more about your mastering process and which things you like to use to get your songs loud and clear without losing transients, separation and openness (for lack of a better word).

Arttu Tick

Stereo imaging and mono compatibility would be interesting topics

Joe Bennett

Deep dive into some serum drums. E.g. Get Deaded or Asteroids Outer Edges remix

GC

Curious to hear a recount of your progression as individuals and as a group - from the time when you were producing split the atom to your current skill level as producers, composers, engineers, etc. What were the main contributors to the growth and hindrance of your progress?

GC
>>79732298

also, plus 1 for your approach on the final gain stage/loudness :)

Altered Perception

would really appreciate seeing the process for how you would use addictive drummer and also how you mixdown your mids/basses so they dont swallow up drums

Astro

would love to see a tutorial on first light or soundesigning higher lead sounds that create the theme of the song. Cheers

cb1
>>78208305

this would be cool, along with how you use analysers etc

KALICODA

Mid/Side, a whole tutorial on stereo imaging

Astro

or a walkthrough of the asteroids remix

Miboso

I'd love to see how you guys created Hyenas with Calyx & Teebee. What a track that is.

Infinitemusic10

This is a bit different but I have always wondered how the DJ setup works with ableton

One Sound Every Day (santino)

The slimy sounds in "Friendly Intentions". Sounds like FM8 and frequency shifting but I cannot figure out that magical texture. Or more realistically a tutorial on "blowing up tails" and tails in general.

melle

I've always loved the texture on the basses of tracks like Oh Oh and Leopard Slug, creating texture and the way you guys use fm8 would be sick to see!

ill.GATES

Please do CLIPPING, Buss Mastering, Clip to Zero... whatever you guys call it. I'd love to know you you get the peaks down and bring the LUFS without ruining your mixes. I'd also love to hear you talk more about getting clear FOCUS in your mixes. Having that main sound stand out of the mix while the rest of the (still very cool) sounds work together as a group in the background would really help. I'd also love to hear about the interaction of Sound Design, Composition, and Mixing. How do these three elements work together in your workflow? It's so easy to become lopsided as a producer but you somehow manage to balance all three area perfectly. Were there times when you got out of balance? How did you get unstuck? Etc.

Sander Maimik

video how you were mixing "Foundations" and general walkthrough of it :)

iLLtech The Cutter
>>82965263

A lot of these topics were touched on in previous sessions. Maybe ask in the discord for direction towards certain subjects =)

Brittany Bradshaw

supersonic walkthrough? The main synth in that track is top notch 👌

Don Skotnicki

- mixing overview, how do you approach mix balance after writing, how do you re-balance things after the writing / creative session. do you guys have meters you prefer and how do you know something is "ready" - horizon w skrillex walkthrough....what a masterpiece - workflow / routine / staying balanced, would love to hear more about your mindset in general and habits - clipping/bussing/mastering, we already know everyone wants to see this :)

Tijs Krijnen

A tutorial about the Group/FX racks and how you are using them. Especially for Bass sounds.

Scartip

Track breakdown of Scrapped 🤯🤯🤯

Kofta Ball

How you might use delay for placing sounds inside of a mix?

Mastedix

Mixing and mastering

Malte Beyer

- Tasm Tutorial (like the ones in running blind & the tide) - Stereo field / width tutorial - how to achieve and define frequency specific width - specifically on basses e.g. anomaly bass (maybe freq split, layering & automation here aswell if applicable) and how to preserve mono compatibility - Bass layering - e.g. sub + lo mid layer + high layer - Peaky "feebacky" talking filter bass-sounds (e.g. basses in incessant, prograrm, mouthbreather & shellshock) and how to get filters / eq filters to talk in general - Dub delay throws (e.g. delay automation on the tasms in the tide)

Joseph Parkes

Either one on your song writing methods, or how you go about making characteristic features of songs that aren't leads or bass (e.g. Running Blind). I'd also really like a breakdown of Shibuya Pet Store

Astro

Program sleepnet remix please. it's one of the best productions ever heard. I'm mindblown about the amount of information in the track whilst maintaining the space, depth, clarity and dynamics. how the f did you do that?

Minetti

I'd LOVE anything that concerns arrangement/song structure or how to manage and finish projects!
