New Yorker rejection here. In retrospect, I'm not sure if I made it obvious enough that the horses were talking. Or maybe it just needs a new caption. Let me know if anyone has a better one.

Yeah, it's a really interesting spin on the soldier "just following orders" and accountability. I love it, but suspect you are right, not instantly obvious the horses are talking.
