[Lucifer] Ch: 17 [Lucifer meets Alexandra Daddario] (Patreon)

[Lux] [Night]
Lux was louder as usual.
Music rolled through the nightclub in heavy waves while colored lights moved across the crowded dance floor. The private party had already drawn actors, models, producers, musicians, and enough wealthy strangers to keep the bartenders moving without pause. Bottles lined the tables, champagne disappeared almost as quickly as it was poured, and half the people in the room seemed more interested in being seen than actually enjoying themselves.
Lucifer stood at the bar with a glass of scotch in one hand, watching the crowd move beneath the lights. 'We're gonna make a shit ton of money tonight.'
Maze leaned beside him with her own drink, dressed in black and looking far more interested in the people around them than whatever investigation Chloe planned to conduct tonight.
She took a sip before glancing toward Lucifer. "What's the plan here, Lucifer?"
Lucifer turned toward her with an easy smile and lifted his glass slightly. "Have fun, of course."
Maze stared at him for a moment as though she had expected something more complicated. Then she shrugged and gulped down the rest of her drink.
"Well, you have your fun, I'll have mine."
Her attention shifted toward the dance floor.
A blonde model was dancing near the center with several friends, wearing a short silver dress that caught the colored lights every time she moved. She was tall, beautiful, and clearly aware that half the room had already noticed her.
Maze smiled.
Lucifer followed her gaze and immediately understood.
"Try not to break anyone before midnight," he called after her.
Maze looked back over her shoulder with an amused expression. "No promises."
She walked straight onto the dance floor.
The blonde noticed Maze approaching almost immediately. Her eyes moved over Maze's body before settling on her face, and whatever conversation she had been having with her friends stopped mattering within seconds.
Maze stepped closer and began dancing with her.
There was no awkward introduction or pointless flirting beforehand. Maze simply entered her space with the kind of confidence that made permission feel almost unnecessary, and the blonde responded just as quickly. Their movements fell into rhythm with the music while the model's hands settled around Maze's waist.
Lucifer watched from the bar with mild amusement.
"Bloody hell," he murmured. "She does make it look easy."
The blonde leaned closer to Maze and whispered something into her ear. Maze answered by sliding one hand along the woman's side and drawing her closer until there was barely any space left between them.
A few moments later, Maze caught the woman behind the neck and kissed her.
The model responded immediately, wrapping both arms around Maze while their kiss deepened beneath the flashing lights. One of the blonde's friends noticed and started laughing while another raised her phone to capture the moment.
Lucifer shook his head with a smile.
"Efficient as always."
He turned back toward the bar and gulped down the rest of his scotch. The alcohol barely registered beyond the taste, which remained one of the more disappointing consequences of being celestial.
Lucifer placed the empty glass on the counter and signaled toward the bartender with two fingers.
"Again."
The bartender reached for the bottle without needing further explanation.
Across the nightclub, Alexandra Daddario sat with several friends and industry acquaintances around one of the larger reserved tables. A producer beside her had spent the last few minutes complaining about scheduling problems on an upcoming project, while two actresses across from her were debating whether either of them would actually attend an early audition the following morning after staying at Lux this late.
Alexandra barely listened. She held a cocktail near her lips while casually scanning the nightclub.
Then she saw him.
Her hand stopped halfway toward her mouth.
Lucifer Morningstar stood alone at the bar, waiting while the bartender poured another drink. His dark suit looked almost black beneath the club lighting, and the relaxed way he leaned against the counter made it seem as though the entire nightclub had been built around him.
'There he is.'
Alexandra lifted her drink slowly, but she barely tasted it as memories from the past few days came back to her. She thought about the first time she saw him on the street and the preacher yelling about the Devil, all the way to the last night at the crime scene. There was something different about him that made her restless, and she couldn't get him out of her head. So, she wanted to meet him.
At the crime scene, Alexandra thought he was another detective.
He certainly carried himself like someone who had absolutely no concern about being surrounded by police officers.
Later, she had casually asked one of the officers who he was.
The answer had only made things stranger.
His name is Lucifer Morningstar, and he is the owner of Lux.
Alexandra had nearly laughed when she first heard his name properly. 'Lucifer Morningstar? Is he for real? What kind of parents give their child a name like that?' She wondered.
Once she returned home, curiosity had eventually driven her onto the internet.
What she found only made him stranger.
Lucifer Morningstar really was his legal name, at least according to every public record and article she could find. He owned Lux, one of the most exclusive clubs in Los Angeles, along with the penthouse above it. Photographs showed him beside actors, musicians, politicians, business executives, models, and wealthy socialites. Other pictures placed him at casinos, premieres, charity events, private parties, and restaurants where a single dinner probably cost more than most people made in a week.
Money clearly wasn't a concern for him.
Yet the more Alexandra searched, the stranger his history became.
There were plenty of photographs from the last five years, along with gossip columns and scattered stories about favors, parties, gambling, women, and unusual connections throughout Los Angeles. Anything older than that seemed practically nonexistent.
It almost seemed as though Lucifer Morningstar had simply appeared in Los Angeles five years ago out of nowhere.
Alexandra knew there was probably a perfectly ordinary explanation hidden somewhere behind expensive lawyers, private records, or a deliberately constructed public identity. But it wasn't her place to worry about it. She just wanted to meet him and check out why she couldn't get him out of her head.
So when someone in her group mentioned they had reservations at Lux for tonight, Alexandra accepted almost immediately.
Now the man she had been curious about was standing less than twenty yards away.
One of the actresses sitting beside Alexandra eventually noticed that she had stopped contributing to the conversation. She followed Alexandra's gaze toward the bar, where Lucifer had just accepted his freshly poured scotch.
“Who are you looking at?”
Alexandra raised her glass and took another sip while keeping her expression casual. “Nobody. I just recognized someone.”
Her friend followed her gaze for another moment before a knowing smile appeared. “That’s Lucifer Morningstar. I’ve heard some very interesting stories about him.”
Alexandra finally looked at her. “What kind of stories?”
The actress gave a quiet laugh. “That reaction tells me he isn’t exactly nobody anymore.”
Alexandra rolled her eyes before looking back toward the bar. “I’ve seen him a couple of times this week. I was curious, that’s all.”
“Of course you were. So, are you gonna go say hi or just keep starin' at him all night?"
Alexandra finished her drink. "I think I'm gonna go and say hi."
"Someone's gonna get lucky tonight." Her friend winked at her with a teasing smirk.
Alexandra stood up. "Shut up. I just wanna talk."
"Yeah, sure. Whatever you say. Want a condom?" Her friend took out a condom from her purse and held it before her.
Alexandra chuckled. "You are such an ass." She began to walk toward the bar. She noticed how he looked at her for a moment before turning back to the bar. 'Dang! There goes my confidence. He actually turned back. Huh?'
Most of the men around the place were checking her out. Why wouldn't they? She was famous and beautiful with big boobies and blue eyes. Yet, Lucifer turned away. That made her even more curious. 'All right, Lucifer Morningstar. Let's find out what your deal is.'
Alexandra stopped beside him and rested one arm against the bar. “Do you always make women walk all the way across your nightclub before acknowledging them?”
Lucifer paused with the glass near his mouth before slowly turning toward her. His eyes moved over her face, then briefly down her dress before returning to those bright blue eyes that immediately caught his attention.
'Bloody hell. Those eyes really are gorgeous. And I still can't believe it's her. Alright, gotta keep calm. I'm Lucifer fucking Morningstar and I'm about to get lucky tonight. Fuck! Don't be a sleezeball. There won't be any sleeping with her tonight. Yeah, alright. I'm a gentleman.'
His smile appeared naturally as he shifted toward her. “My apologies, darling. I didn't realize a beautiful woman was crossing the room specifically to see me. Had I known, I would've arranged rose petals and perhaps several unemployed musicians.”
Alexandra laughed as she set her empty glass on the counter. “That would've been subtle."
“Subtlety is terribly overrated,” Lucifer replied while signaling the bartender. “What are you drinking?”
Alexandra glanced toward her empty glass before naming the cocktail she'd been having at the table. The bartender started preparing another one while she studied Lucifer from closer range. The photographs online had done him justice, which she found mildly irritating because most people looked considerably less impressive outside carefully selected pictures.
Lucifer noticed the inspection and leaned one elbow against the bar. “You can keep staring if you'd like. I'm quite used to admiration.”
Alexandra raised her eyebrows. “Do you ever get tired of complimenting yourself?”
Lucifer considered the question for a moment before taking a sip. “Hasn't happened yet, and I see no reason to begin now.”
Alexandra smiled despite herself. “At least you're honest about it.”
“Always,” Lucifer said, and something about the certainty behind that single word sounded different from the playful arrogance surrounding everything else.
The bartender placed her drink in front of her. Alexandra thanked him before taking a small sip, then turned back toward Lucifer. “We've actually seen each other before.”
Lucifer narrowed his eyes thoughtfully as he looked at her again. “Have we slept together?”
His internal thought: 'What the hell is wrong with me? Fuck! Damn it!'
Alexandra nearly choked on her drink. She covered her mouth while laughing and shook her head. “No, we definitely haven't slept together.”
“Then I'm terribly sorry,” Lucifer replied with complete sincerity. “Clearly an oversight that deserves immediate investigation.”
Alexandra lowered her glass and gave him an amused stare. “Do you use that line on everybody?”
“I've never needed lines,” Lucifer said. “People usually tell me what they want before things become complicated.”
“Convenient.”
“Extremely.”
Alexandra shifted against the bar and glanced toward the dance floor, where Maze was still dancing closely with the blonde model she'd approached earlier. “I saw you near that street preacher.”
Lucifer's expression brightened with recognition. “Ah, the fraudulent prophet. Charming fellow once he stopped screaming.”
Alexandra laughed softly. “You scared the hell out of him.”
“Technically, I gave him a religious experience,” Lucifer replied before sipping his scotch. “Most preachers would kill for one of those.”
“He genuinely thought you were the Devil.”
Lucifer smiled at her over the edge of his glass. “He was remarkably perceptive once properly motivated.”
Alexandra studied him, waiting for the joke to reveal itself. Lucifer simply drank his scotch while watching her right back.
She finally shook her head. “Then I saw you again at Marcus Vale's murder scene.”
That brought a slight change to his expression. The humor remained, though his attention became sharper.
“So you're the woman who found our dearly departed producer.”
Alexandra nodded. “Unfortunately.”
Lucifer looked her over once more. “Alexandra Daddario.”
Her eyebrows rose. “So you do know who I am?”
“Of course,” Lucifer replied. “Actress, rather mesmerising eyes, and apparently capable of tackling invasive photographers after discovering corpses beside swimming pools. You've had an eventful week.”
Alexandra smiled. “That's one way to describe it.”
Lucifer raised his glass toward her. “You handled yourself rather well.”
“Thanks,” she replied, and the compliment landed differently because he sounded genuine when he said it. “I asked one of the officers about you afterward.”
Lucifer looked delighted. “Investigating me already?”
“I was curious.”
“Dangerous condition.”
Alexandra turned toward him more fully. “Then I looked you up.”
Lucifer's smile widened. “And here I thought romance was dead.”
“It wasn't romantic,” Alexandra said with a laugh. “I searched your name because I wanted to figure out who walks into an active homicide scene, flirts with a police officer, and gets dragged away by a detective without looking remotely worried.”
“Sounds like an exceptionally handsome man.”
“You're really committed to this whole ego thing.”
“I've had an extraordinarily long time to perfect it.”
Alexandra caught the strange wording immediately. “How long?”
Lucifer's expression turned innocent. “Long enough.”
She laughed and shook her head before taking another drink.
While they were talking, Chloe Decker walked in, wearing a gorgeous blue party dress...
