Hello my dear Patrons, it is time for an update about my journey to find the best algo trading strategy (according to my personal criteria that is...).

First of all I want to thank @Trader jeff for pointing me to another website that provides a lot of strategies that are (partly) downloadable from the Internet. The website is: https://bt.robot.co.network/ and it does automatic backtesting on all the strategies it finds on the Internet (Github) and also those that are uploaded by people that want their strategy tested by this system.

At first I was a bit overwhelmed by this system. It is fully automatic and ranks the strategies it has regularly on their performance and reports them to a website. Totally no human interaction needed. So you might understand that I immediately was doubting my own system to try to find the best algo strategies manually.

But instead of throwing the towel in the ring, I decided to learn from this system.

My work is mainly doing these backtests manually and then adding the results to a spreadsheet and ranking the results based on my own system (more on this a little bit further in this post).

You can understand that this takes time and is also prone to errors (typo's & stuff).

If this automatic backtesting system can get the data from the backtesting output and put it on the screen liks you see on the picture and website. So why not use the same principle and automate my own backtesting system more.

This will speed up the process of testing and finding the best strategies, maybe I can also add more timeframes since it goes automatically, but more important: It also gives me more time to create the youtube video's you probably know me of.

I like making these videos and it gives the whole process a more personal touch. Not to mention that we all can learn from the explanations on how these strategies work so that we can build our own algo strats. Which is a main additional purpose ofcourse.

So to be clear, besides doing the regular 'old fashioned' backtests, I will also invest time in creating a tool that automates the complete backtesting process. My first idea is that this process will go something like this:

1. Create a script that calls freqtrade to test a strategy on multiple timeframes and output the results to a file

2. Read the contents of the file and enter these backtest results in a database

3. Create an additional set of tables that help with the ranking of the backtest results (based on what I have now)

4. Calculate the best ranking timeframe of all the initial tests and add this results to a main strategy league database

5. Use the League table and export it to show on my website.

When this is all working like I want and does not have bugs or errors I am considering to make this a video which is only exclusive to my Patreon supporters. This way you can totally benefit from my work as well.

To end this update with another announcement. I will also create a post (or video, don't know yet) on how you can also create a similar ranking system as I have been using up until now. This will be soon (within a couple of weeks). With the excel/google sheet, how to rank and all other stuff. The only thing you will have to do is use your own variables to calculate the ranking. Based on your own preferences and risk appetite.

Thank you for your support and I will return soon with more news.

Goodbye!
