Allegra stood framed by the tall windows of the abandoned manor, sunlight spilling around her in a hazy glow. Dust motes floated gently in the air, belying the danger closing in on her. Wearing a sleek black skirt and fingerless gloves, she looked more like a model at a fashion shoot than a fighter. But there was strength in her eyes, sharpened by the life-or-death battles she had survived until now.

Her adversaries skulked through the dim corridors, each one determined to claim the bounty on her head. They fanned out, weapons at the ready, while Allegra listened for any sound—a footstep, a whispered command. Her heart pounded. One last showdown.

Suddenly, a shot rang out from the hallway. Allegra spun to return fire, her reflexes honed by countless skirmishes. She squeezed off a round, forcing the assailant to duck behind a broken piece of furniture. Another muzzle flashed from a half-collapsed doorway on her left—she whirled and fired, striking a figure that tumbled with a cry.

A brief lull followed, the dust settling once again. Allegra’s ears rang with the echoes of gunfire. Determined to push on, she advanced.

That’s when the next bullet found her.

A crack reverberated, and she felt the sharp sting as the slug slammed into her right breast. The impact staggered her, but she grit her teeth, refusing to succumb to the pain. She clamped a hand over the wound, warm blood seeping through her fingers, but she refused to fall.

They thought it would stop her. They were wrong.

Summoning her last reserves of energy, Allegra fired again. Her aim was still deadly: she took down one attacker, then pivoted to confront the next. The hallway erupted in chaos, bullets pinging against metal and ricocheting off the crumbling walls.

A second shot tore through the air, cutting through the haze of dust. This time, it struck her left breast. Her eyes widened with the sheer force of it, and for a moment her vision blurred. Pain flared like wildfire across her chest. She stumbled backward against the open window, struggling to keep her balance.

Despite the agony, Allegra braced herself against the ledge. Her posture straightened, will undiminished. She aimed and pressed the trigger again—once, twice—her foes scattered, unsure if this wounded warrior could still cut them down.

Then came the third, fatal shot.

The bullet ripped through the space between her breasts, finding its deadly path straight to her heart. The shock of it halted all movement. Allegra let out a choked gasp, the pistol slipping from her grip and clattering to the floor.

Time seemed to slow. Her knees buckled. She sank downward, eyes still focused on the corridor where her attackers crouched in stunned silence. She attempted to speak, but only a faint breath escaped her parted lips. Blood trickled, painting a stark, crimson pattern down her torso.

Her strength spent, Allegra collapsed onto her back. Arching for a final moment, she gasped as though to pull in one last lungful of air. Her gaze drifted to the broken ceiling overhead, dust motes swirling like tiny stars in the gloom. Then, slowly, her eyes closed in surrender, and her trembling body fell still.

In the aftermath, the wind stirred through the open window, carrying the scent of sun-warmed leaves into the silent room. There, among the fading echoes of gunfire, Allegra found her final rest—brave to the end, her spirit unbroken even as darkness claimed her.
