She was once a ghost in the night, a predator moving unseen through the corridors of power, her name whispered only in fear. But ghosts don’t bleed. And now, neither would she.

Selene Vaughn, the agency’s most lethal assassin, lay sprawled on the cold wooden floor, her body arching as pain carved through her like a dull blade. The arrows had struck deep in her chest, her ribs, tearing through flesh that had once been untouchable. Blood seeped in thick, glistening pools, staining the lace of her torn white top, turning every gasping breath into a cruel mockery of life.

She could still feel the impact, the sudden, brutal puncture of metal through muscle. The moment when her body betrayed her. When she realized she was not invincible.

Her fingers twitched, reaching for something, anything to anchor her, but the world around her was slipping. The room, once familiar, now a blurred, distant void. Trophies and medals from her past exploits lined the shelves above her, meaningless now. Shadows stretched across the ceiling, her vision darkening with them.

She wanted to move. To fight. But her legs had no strength left to carry her. The pain was no longer sharp; it had become something deeper, colder. A slow, creeping stillness spreading from the wound in her chest.

A low, shuddering gasp escaped her lips as her body arched one last time. Her back curved, fingers clawing at nothing, her breath catching before she collapsed. Her final struggle reduced to silence.

Selene Vaughn had killed kings and criminals alike. She had slit the throats of men who thought they were untouchable. But now, in a quiet room far from the chaos of battle, her body lay still, her story ending not with a roar but with a whisper.
