The room echoed with silence, the kind that follows something irreversible.
Isabella’s breath caught in her throat as the sharp report of the gun faded into the shadows. Her body jerked once, then stilled, slumping ever so slightly in the chair. The bullet had landed with perfect precision, straight to the heart.
But there was no scream. No chaos. Only the sound of blood beginning to drip down her chest, soaking into the black fabric of her dress like ink on silk.
She didn’t look afraid.
Even as the crimson stain spread, Isabella’s gaze remained locked on the man before her — the man who had just pulled the trigger. Her lips parted slightly, not in shock, but in something eerily close to peace.
“You finally did it,” she whispered, a tremor riding her voice. “I wondered if you ever would.”
The gun in his hand trembled now, the fire of vengeance already starting to cool into ash. He hadn’t expected it to feel like this, hollow, sickening. She hadn’t fought. She hadn’t begged.
She had accepted it.
“I had no choice,” he said, almost to himself.
Her faint smile lingered, even as her strength faded.
“We always have a choice,” Isabella replied, voice thin as a thread.
And then… nothing.
No breath. No heartbeat.
Just a haunting silence, and a man left holding the gun and the weight of the truth he’d never get to hear.
