This week the Pearlman's were trying desperately to get the baby to bed when they started singing nursery rhymes and realizing that they had no idea why a baby would be rocking on a tree top. That inspired Mrs. P to research 5 Nursery Rhymes and present them to Mr. P while an infant is sleeping just a foot away from them the entire time.

Don't worry, this episode will make you anything but tired as the Pearlman's learn more about English sheep taxation law than you ever thought possible!

Alex will be performing live in Philly April 12th/13th: Tickets Here

Posting this episode a few hours early for Wrestlemania. Have a great week everyone, and to those coming out next weekend for the shows in Philly, I am super hyped to see you there! - Mr. P

When will Indy tickets be available?

I have the Rocky and Bullwinkle DVD set and my kid loves it 😂

In undergrad I narrowed down several choices for my 200 level course to Fairytales or Children’s Literature. I chose the latter and I don’t regret that decision. Yet, I’ve always wished I could have done both. So I’m thrilled to have this episode and would love to hear more! It amuses me that this is the same episode as my shoutout (“Cuzdaglamor…”). First, due to the topic, but also the “support libraries” call to action, and then Mr. P saying he’s going to get a head start on ACOTAR #2… while I spent all day procrastinating from reading the novel *I picked* for my friend’s book club this month. 😅 Oh! Also, that book is Child Lit—a YA fantasy retelling of the fairy tale on Rumplestiltskin (“Spinning Silver” by Naomi Novik for those interested). All that to say, it kinda maybe sorta feels like the universe is trying to tell me something? 🤔

Sydney Zane In The Membrane

I really couldn’t have asked for a better hey hun from Mrs. P. Thank you for blessing me on this joyous Sunday. 😌

No worries we completely understand taking time off for religious celebrations 🙏

The Pod is Coming From Inside the Cast!

A delightful episode. Jack and Jill is low-key traumatic for me as a kid. I had sicko teachers who would be way too graphic when telling little kids about stuff. I remember my teacher explaining that Jack "breaking his crown" meant "cracking his head open" and so I would have nightmares about smashing my head open and my brains falling out of my head. Good stuff, today's kids are wimps missing out on all of that formative trauma.

Oh I love when this happens... another of my favorite pods, And That's Why We Drink, also covered the dark side of nursery rhymes this week! Normally they're half "ooky spooky" as Mrs P calls it, and half True Crime, but this week the front half went more of a folk lore direction. Some overlap with Mrs P's coverage, but they also did several different ones!

Demolition Dormouse

So now I’m wondering if the reason the term “Black Sheep” was coined was not because they visibly stuck out from the rest of the heard but because the wool was less valuable. Also, a perfect tie-in for Mrs. P’s May book club.

_IsTheNew#

I always thought # was called 'hash' and calling it 'pound' was an American term. Also after Alex's rant on pints and mouthfuls, I'd love to hear a lore dump on all the things America insists on doing differently 😅 Great show Mrs.P

April Merritts

Would love a part 2! Also, thanks for saying my last name right! People often drop the ‘s’ at the end!

simplebrute

this episode reminded me of another nursery rhyme that was updated to mock current British royalty. after Prince Andrew disgraced the throne by activity that couldn't possibly make him sweaty, someone updated The Grand Old Duke of York nursery rhyme to: "The grand old Duke of York, he had twelve million quid. He gave it to someone he never met, for something he never did."

That_dumb_b!tch

Loved this topic and am hoping for a part 2. Somewhat in the same vein, I would also love if you guys could investigate some of the Grimm's fairy tales vs modern fairy tales.

Gramajo

I beg of one of you to research sex and sexuality in the Victorian era. They were ANYTHING but prude.

NeverEnoughHammers

Sincerely hoping for a part 2 that one was fantastic!

I'm not sure, it's up to Helium Indy's website to add the links. I'm guessing they'll go on sale about 3 months before the show date.

So I’m working on my PhD in microbial pathogenesis and if you live in the southwest stay away from armadillos (leprosy) and the prairie dogs (plague). But yea your likelihood of getting pestis isn’t very high and if you do def go to the doctor. ALSO PLEASE DONT DRINK RAW MILK. It’s literally so easy not to get a horrible illness just by doing that one thing 💕

Short_Range_Attack_Chicken

Ok so I’m not sure if you both have seen the movie NeverEnding story but I went read the original book and let me tell ya, it’s far more disturbing than the movie! I so recommend reading it ! 😂

Alex Pearlman is lame

I’m also waiting for Indy tickets. Every time I get a Helium notification I get excited but and then they let me down lol. Saving the date!

Taris Harlow

After listening to this I feel like I need to recommend my other favorite podcast, (Sort of) the story. It’s two friends who retell fairytales to each other, and they are hilarious.

Katrina_McBean_Kerfuffle_Kween

Speaking of Magistra Pearlmania, I said to my girlfriend: "Magistra upset over Disney's Hercules lack of accuracy is totally in the same vein as Alex's anger over Disney's Coco handling of the grandmother's dementia"

Radish The Drunk Bard Gnome from Wisconsin

Just an FYI 50 First Dates is, in fact, a horror movie, It’s based on a real woman, Michelle Philpots, who lost her short term memory in a car accident in England. Her life is even worse than the movie.
