Re SMP boycott - it’s been going on since last October and it’s not a boycott on purchasing but boycott on talking about titles from them to stop giving them free advertising after an employee made Islamophobic comments so they’re asking the following of SMP - Address and denounce the Islamophobia/racism from their employee. Offer tangible steps for how they’re going to mitigate the harm this employee caused. Address how, moving forward, they will support and protect their Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab readers, influencers, and authors in addition to their BIPOC readers, influencers, and authors.

Listen, Chicago has some life changing food, but Portillos is not one of those places. The best Italian beef sandwiches are at Johnnie's Beef in Elmwood Park. You gotta order it "juicy, sweet" (or hot if you like spicy peppers) and an Italian ice no lid. THE BEST hot dogs are at Gene and Jude's in River Grove. Both are pretty close to the city.

I grew up in Hayward and we went to Duluth for school shopping every year. It was very exciting, we would stop at Perkins in the morning and my grandpa would get excited about taking us over the “singing” bridge and to feed his stale popcorn to seagulls by the lake. (I do not know if popcorn is bad for seagulls, don’t cancel my grandpa, it was the 80s)

Aside from maybe the chocolate cake shake you can skip Portillos it’s too corporate now. You should definitely try a hotdog or polish sausage at a Sox or cubs game, Sox tickets are super cheap bc we suck. Oooh and you should definitely try a shot of Malort
