Mr. Pearlmania takes us back on a journey to San Francisco in search Norton I the Emperor of the United States and protector of Mexico. This episode has it all, Neil Gaiman, South Africa, peruvian rice, A quiet German man with big hair, and of course the life and times of Joshua Abraham Norton.

(Sorry it was late posting, the scheduler was set to the wrong day).

Yay! I’m excited for this episode. And NG has disappointed me in a deeply painful way. Nerds can’t have nice things and I feel like as a woman I should be used to it by now.

KevoMF

Bummer the dog was an active listener from what I hear.

Emperor Norton I is the GOAT. Bummer (the dog 🐕) and Lazarus is such a good duo name. I’ve been thinking about adopting some rabbits since mine passed, and they might be named bummer and Lazarus. It’s cute how you guys actively listen. You love each other and want to listen. It’s a reason I listen.

Exqueeze me, Trading Places is a DAN AYKROYD movie, FEATURING Eddie Murphy. Put some respect on my weird UFO vodka buddy

mr. buttons

Bummer the dog is such a dope dog name too.

I had to go google "what did Abraham Lincoln think of Emperor Norton" and was disappointed to find that he apparently never commented on the existence of an American emperor. That's a big Bummer the dog 🩷 Speaking of bummers, I gotta say I'm depressed now because I didn't know that season 3 of Good Omens is on hold. Which was co-written, of course, by the unassailable Terry Pratchett, and neither Sir Terry (RIP) nor the rest of us should have to suffer because Neil Gaiman is an asshole. I NEED THE REST OF THE STORY and I already got robbed of season 3 of Our Flag Means Death...WHY THIS TORTURE‽?!

The infamous Bridgerton event was in Detroit… I’m in the area and ran into some people who went at a different, non-scam, event… the stories were wiiiiiild. The audacity of the event runners to charge what they did was just plain impressive. But also Bummer the active listening dog! And yeah, screw NG, especially the part where he shrugs and says, basically ‘I’m neurodivergent so ’.

Marshall Farms

Us weirdos that listen then go watch!

Taydawspi

Somehow missed the Neil Gaiman drama and now I’m pissed at the world again. 😒

Omfg I am so ready for this cross over

Pearlmania500

Whoa whoa whoa, I would call it a Jamie Lee Curtis movie before I ever remembered Dan Aykroyd was even in trading places lololol ~ Mrs. P

Short_Range_Attack_Chicken

Ooh I love this and wish I had known about him when I lived in Northern California! I’m actively listening just like Bummer the dog. 🐕 😜

April Merritts

Bummer sounds like an amazing doggo! And you’ve managed to both sell me on Neil Gaimen’s (Gaiman? Who cares.) comics but not the man himself, so I’m now un-sold on the comics.

✨Sparkling Misandry✨

I can accept that...who could forget her performance 😆 But Dan Aykroyd is my forever boyfriend and must be appreciated! 🩷

Kari McCormick

I'm sure that Bummer the dog was an active listener. Excellent episode! I learned a lot.

Jennifer

Bummer the dog!!!

Arlo the Average

I am now going to convince the rescue I work at to name a dog Bummer

Red Moon

Series idea: I would be interested to watch Mrs Ps Book Recs for a YouTube series. I’m getting back into reading and would love to get more titles for my TBR list.

Pearlmania500

Definitely follow my instagram @mrs.pearlmania500 I post books that don’t make it to book club episodes and I can start posting recommendations too ✨~ Mrs.P

Chekhov's Dolphin's are Sentient

Well known street characters you say? One that pops into my mind is the Saint Cloud Superman in Minnesota... That's an interesting one of today's time... This emperor was so based though.

Paige Morgan

So sad about the downfall of Gaiman. Sandman has been a comfort show for me since its release. I have the dvds so I’ll switch to watching them instead of adding to the rewatch numbers. 😔

Bear Case

Ya know, we shoulda known Neil Gaiman was sus from how involved he was on tumblr…

Monsoon.74

Amazing episode! Bummer the dog. Bummer was an amazingly overused word in the 80/90’s.

Sly Cooper

Bummer the dog is actively listening too

Zelda Presents

came here to say Bummer The Dog is Actively Listening but i was too late but also happy that others get it 😂

Mariah

Bummer the doooooog what a guy eh

Red Moon

Oh hell yeah! I would love more titles to readddd!

Alanna

Was it overused? I only came into existence in the later 80s and consciousness in the early 90s, so it was perhaps going away by the time I learned it. It was and still is a part of my vocabulary today. I know I’ve texted “that’s a bummer” within the past 2 months for sure—don’t recall why or to whom for context though.

Anne N

Bummer the dog listens actively 😝

Bubbsiedaisies

Bummer the dog is the best active listener.
