See what's thing about the suburbs: you just go there to sleep, essentially. Everywhere you'd want to be, everywhere you'd want to go, is a 15 minute plus drive away, and you can't get there at all on foot. It's not a place for community, it's a place that's a hybrid between the isolation of the rural area and the convenience of cities

I quit my job at clean water action my after first day because they told me it was a marketing/graphic design job and then sent me canvassing in a way that felt vaguely like coercion/kidnapping and trained me into guilting old people into giving money

As someone who grew up (and now lives again) in a town of 200 in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere, and lived both in downtown Minneapolis, and a suburb of the Twin Cities, the suburbs are my own personal hell. It was so easy to adapt to living in the city from the middle of nowhere. The suburbs, no community ANYWHERE. I knew my neighbors in downtown, I knew no one in the suburbs.
