There is a war on the name of the homemade snack mix with Chex and I thought that’s what this was about 🤣 we call them muddy buddies growing up on the west coast. Now living in the Midwest and it’s called puppy chow and I hate it lol

Kay W

The puppy chow name drives me crazy!! I'm an Ohioian and my family has always called them muddy buddies (which is the name on the recipe on the Chex box).

SwampAstronaut

I love these episodes because I too, am an idiot. So I be learning!

Elizabeth J

Thank you for saying no crunchy pb because as soon as you mentioned the peanut butter I was like ooooh I bet crunchy would be delicious

Almanac_Gossip_Girl

I've never made my own peanut butter but now I want to try - is there a particular recipe you use Mrs. P?

Almanac_Gossip_Girl

Speaking of gardening - I would also love to know if anyone has recommendations for how to keep squirrels out of your garden - they keep digging at my cauliflower 😭

Nikki Ann

Surfactin/surfactant sounded weird because they use it in preemies to help their lungs keep from collapsing. But it seems it’s the same thing lol

Lioness

I will die on the shredded cheese hill with Mrs P. If you want suuuuuuuper smooth cheese sauces, get a bag of sodium citrate powder and add a very small pinch as you’re melting.

✨Ariel✨from✨Footloose✨

We don’t garden but we put cayenne or ghost pepper powder in the bird food we put out because birds aren’t affected by spicy stuff

ScrambledPhoenixEggs

OK, I'm loving the spray timing ksssssssshhhhhhhhh and the stir timing song. I definitely would have gone shorter on the former, and slower on the latter.

My doctor in the course of trying to figure out why my stomach as been just hurting all the time decided that I should try eliminating gluten to my horror by the way I love everything that has gluten in it. So fast forward I’m on the struggle bus 🚌 trying desperately not to eat anything with gluten and I got to my work meeting ( with catered food) much to my delight they had gluten free options then when I see a cookie in the box I get super excited but then my hopes were yanked away when on the bottom of the bag of cookies it said contains wheat… I wanted those damned cookies so freaking badly!😭😭😭 Btw the Redmill gluten-free brownie mix is so freaking delicious!😋 Yet another reason love Redmill! Btw they did test me for celiac but nope it’s still a mysterious stomach pain that won’t go away…😖

Kristen

I just made this now and I didn’t wait and tried a nibble. It’s soooo goooood 🤤

hothotpot

Oof yeah that's rough. At least puppy chow is kind of cute! Monkey munch feels ... ominous lol

hothotpot

These sound delicious, but what it's really making me crave is the savory snack mix. My dad used to make it all the time when we were kids - no extra mixins or anything, just melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and paprika on rice Chex (rice Chex supremacy). It was the besssst.

Moth_Goblin

Idk if you know this tip but I learned when im making something super sticky in a pot, I fill it with water and let it boil for a while and it melts all the sticky and I can pour it down the drain.

OMG thank you for explaining that PAM is ruining my baking sheets!

If I have a non-GF kitchen, and all tools/bowls are cleaned and surfaces sanitized before I start (obviously) - is there anything else I need to do to make sure it’s safe for someone with the Celiacs? (I want to make them for my friend’s kid)

In defense of shredded cheese: not a lot people realize how expensive it is to be disabled. A lot of people don't have the physical ability to hold a block of cheese and a box shredder and then shred the cheese. Pre-shredded is more expensive and sometimes our only option. Just like pre-diced onion and pre-diced butternut squash.

I think the reason why it's important to use solid marshmallows instead of fluff is because of the gelatin. Where I work, it's noted that our marshmallow "sauce" (it's marshmallow fluff mixed with some simple syrup) is kosher, but the our ice cream that has marshmallows is not kosher because of the gelatin.

deviled_bells

I read this and immediately went to the store. But, only had extra crunchy peanut butter. Instead of a half cup I added a cup- It worked out great! Very delicious.

I know several people who get a negative test result for celiac and then ended up testing positive for it a couple of years later :/ it's harder to detect when the damage is new and if they didn't do an intestinal biopsy it's easy to miss. I hope I hope they get it figured out for you soon!

✨Sparkling Misandry✨

I agree, most of the time (even with baking) unsalted butter is just not that big a whoop. Only a few recipes really need unsalted butter. I will say that the one thing I made with salted butter when it called for unsalted and it backfired on me…was lemon curd. Most things are enhanced by a small amount of salt and my lemon curd recipe (David Leibovitz) even calls for a small pinch. But if you use salted butter in it and then add that small pinch of salt…BLECHHHHHHH. So disappointing. Like, Xmas morning facehugger levels of disappointing LOL

✨Sparkling Misandry✨

Also gluten free protip: if you really like the thing you have brought to the function and it is gluten-free and you are gluten-free, make sure to label it gluten-free because there will be a lot more for you to take home and eat yourself. Lol

AugieLovesPenny

The propellant in Pam also eats teflon pans.

Hiddi

I'm here to say when peanut butter chex came out we tried to make these and they were unedible. so gross 😝 we make these with rice wheat and corn mixed all together. it's so yummy.

Rilesthelion

Now it’s summer would love to see a classic summer grill dish. I struggle with homemade hamburger patties so would love to see what instructions Mrs P would give for those!

Sadsnailclub

Here in the Midwest muddy buddies is called puppy chow

Snarkelupagus

Am I allergic to cane sugar? Yes 😭 Will I ever make these? Sadly no. Did I still listen to and enjoy this whole thing? Hell yeah.

Zelda Presents

y'all the pre-made rice crispy treats are BAD. DISGUSTING. my savior is the few amazing coffee shops that MAKE them from scratch 🙌🙌🙌

Zelda Presents

now i don't want to eat ANYTHING ELSE. life ruined 😭🤣

Zelda Presents

oh no 😭😭😭 no alternatives are possible?

Snarkelupagus

I can have coconut sugar and beet sugar, maple, date, agave, honey... the problem is finding gluten-free (wheat allergy too) cereal with NO cane sugar. Also I would have to make my own marshmallows and they definitely won't get the solid feel she describes 😂

Zelda Presents

lmaooo do you have snobby friends like one of mine who think GF means not good? haha

Zelda Presents

whoa i am fascinated. it's so hard for me to imagine a bad lemon curd just bc of a little too much salt!

Zelda Presents

YES!!! i empathize. i TRIED to be "more financially responsible" (which is a LIE shoved down our throats by ableists) but i just wound up not eating at all and getting more sick and underweight. i appreciate convenience so much more because it's not a matter of laziness it's literally a matter of survival. i am ALL ABOUT the pre-chopped pre-everything section at the grocery store now. as well as paper plates and plastic cultery, bc it's a choice between that and a PERMANENT mountain of nasty dishes.

Zelda Presents

great question; i hope somebody qualified answers soon <3

Zelda Presents

omg i empathize. my most beloved food group is CARBS, and i became diabetic T_T and EVEN WORSE, when i developed more chronic illnesses that regularly kill my appetite, guess what is the ONLY food i can eat without literally gagging... carbs. sigh

Zelda Presents

i have yet to try this myself but friends have also recommended spicy things to deter the squirrels without hurting them or anything else

Zelda Presents

wow i learned so much just from this one comment thread lol

shelse

I'm the same with salted vs unsalted. I just use less salt overall.

Mother_Goots

Mrs. p I have important Rice Krispie information! The ALDI Brand is actually gluten free! The traditional brandname is not because it contains malt. But Aldi brand is! It even says so on the box!

CheeseDizMilk

Im definitely frog! Loud and in charge but submissive when I need to be lol

Polyamorous_pagan_possum

I also don't care if the butter is salted or unsalted and it drives my ex chef partner to no end.
