It's the June Story report by Mrs Pearlmania! This month's pick has been a long time coming, as Mrs. P has received multiple copies of this novel in our PO Box and requests from DMs.

The Murder Bot Diaries By Martha Wells are a rip roaring sci-fi adventure that really feels exactly like the story of a 22 year old security guard in 2005. You'll have to listen to the episode to understand that reference!

If you want to send us something in our PO Box, our Address is:

PO Box 72151, Thorndale, PA 19372

I enjoy the murderbot show so much! They fit so much in the 20min episodes. And there are so many lines I love & they usually come straight from the book! So excited for today's story report ♡♡

snelly

Loved this story report😭😂 Murder bot escaping retirement is hilarious

Lauren Jane

Screaming from the shower, "ALEXANDER SKARSGARD WAS THE VAMPIRE KING OF LOUISIANA IN TRUE BLOOD NOT IT OR NOSFERATU GOD DAMN IT"

Sunshine Magik

Bill Skarsgard was in it and Nosferatu. Alexander's little brother

Nixie

I’m reading Here Lies A Vengeful Bitch by Codie Crowley. I think you might enjoy it, Mrs. P. It’s a light horror fiction, a good Summerween read.

Rockstache

First time you've done a book I've read! I was talking with one of the folks at my local bookstore about this series and we both agreed that these books feel like the author worked in retail.

Stuck in Koala Kanyan

Bill Skarsgard played Pennywise in the movie It but I'm sure he's as well hung as his big brother 😏

Rockstache

Whitehole may be the best episode of Red Dwarf. Its certainly the episode that me and my brother quote to get each other to laugh, regardless of how bad everything else in the world may be.

DamnYouVodka

Would love an ep about Luddites!

ValentiSimp

I loved this book and it was only like 2 hours on my public library digital library and they had the dramatization which has voice actors and music and stuff.

E

Screaming from my WFH office!

Arlo the Average

Listen, saying crayon like cron is better than crayn.

tach.o

Wait I say crayons like “Crans” I never knew people said it differen5 oh no

Caro

Very excited about this!!

Expired Gummybears

Oh hello story report. Just when I thought I had run out of things to listen to for my final commute of the week. 💅🏻📖

Cuttlefish_Queen

I love these books and this episode was incredible!! So much fun laughing to myself at work today!

Marie Vanhellsing

When I worked for Allied Universal doing 3rd shift security, I also did a lot of reading/watching/napping (country club site) but I also ran an entire D&D campaign on the clock so that was pretty rad

Alanna

Have you listened to the solo voice version? I listened to that one first and it spoiled me. I tried the group one right after but I didn’t like the pacing and busyness of all the sound effects. Though I may try again next reread, after more time has passed and the solo actor’s voice isn’t as fresh in my head.

shelse

I haven't listened to this yet, but I have to just say before I dive in that Murder Bot just makes me think of both the Storybots and the Painbot from Teen Titans Go - which if you haven't watched, you should definitely get Pearlbabeia into it because it's really funny.

Brazilian Overlords

do I hear a funk version of the intro by Mr. P? love it. go off king

Kristen Cocciante

I’m 30 min in and this is reminding me of when I was a cashier in a cafe (I did not make the drinks) and sometimes ppl would order custom drinks and like apologize for every special part and I would get so irritated cuz like I don’t care, my job is to write it on the cup and take ur money, I don’t even care if u say please, just order and go, I have a line 🙃 it was on my college campus and stg some ppl were too nice 😂

ValentiSimp

I haven’t but I find I enjoy dramatizations better. Sometimes they do cut out small details to fit pacing better, so if you’re theory crafting it’s better to listen to the regular single narrator instead. Fourth Wing for example has a lot of really small details that are foreshadowing that might not get included in the dramatization but the dramatization is also really good. Also I really want Ms Pearlman or Alex to read Fourth Wing. I mean I really want him to finish ACOTAR too but the fourth book is kind of a Christmas special really small, the fifth book is Nesta which he loves and would be really fun to hear his reaction to.

ValentiSimp

I would love an episode on Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros!

Peach

Really enjoyed this one!! I listened while I cleaned out my closet so thank you so much for the entertainment that helped me stay on task. 🖤

Zethzartfartcart

This one was fun! I love the book reports so much, y'all are amazing!!

Casper

KOTOR MENTIONED. I knew you were cool Mr. P!!!! HK47 dialogue plays in my head 24/7.

AugieLovesPenny

Fun fact: the earth had rings for a while as the moon coalesced!

BugTheLady_Alissa

I need double dipping in the dildo dollars as a hat

LizMac

Same!

Kimberly HW

This was a fun story time!

Jennifer

I came here to see if anyone else was going to mention that they had the wrong brother! 😂

Jennifer

What a fun story! I am going to read it myself and then watch the show! Mr. P would hate how I say crayons. I say "crans" 🖍️

S•P•Q•R

The whole series is amazing! And the transport ship, ART, is my favorite character

Nikki Ann

In Michigan we say cran. Crayons are crans. At least I do lol.

Megan

I have a hard time saying crayons. I grew up pronouncing it crowns (from Delco but now live elsewhere). When I try to pronounce it correctly, it feels wrong in my mouth. I probably sound weird too. 😂

a plant named Sage

Not me screaming in my head at work "IT'S BILL SKARSGARD, HES PENNYWISE"

a plant named Sage

crans is easy breezy for Midwesterners. My gram also says "tomata and patatah"

Katrina_McBean_Kerfuffle_Kween

The absolute WORST thing abt the Murderbot Diaries is holding in the sniffles when Martha Wells writing gets tender. She's gotten me a few times in the series.

hothotpot

lmao same. "He plays Nosferatu" and I'm over here out loud saying "no doesn't, that's his brother, Bill!" like Pearlmania can hear me, or would care if he could lol

Alanna

Ah! That’s an interesting point. Helpful too! Going into listening to the dramatization and understanding and accepting it as an abridged version—similar but different, like the tv show— might just help me get into it. Thanks for giving it a name, “theory crafting.” That’s exactly what I automatically do. So much so, I sometimes need to pause and rewind because I realize my brains been spinning out (aka theorizing) and I haven’t actually been listening for several minutes. 😅

Alanna

So did I, though I’d seen the show trailer before reading the series. Still, I mentally cast a totally different actress’ face in my minds eye for her—I pictured Sarita Choudhury. Only now, have I realized my thought process was: “now there’s an older woman intrepid explorer with a warmth about her.” Looking at her filmography, I think it’s because of her role in Fallout, which I’d totally forgotten about til right now.

Abbazabba_youse_my_only_friend

I listened to half the pod and then read all 7 books in the next too weeks while finishing the episode and now I'm sad it's done...

WhoDat? Adirondack

Bing should be called Biff. That shiiiiiittttt sucks so bad. As some has to work on Microsoft iOS I hate items auto open on bing.

AYAZUKI Yugi (綾月 遊戯)

I love a sci-fi with moral ambiguity and questions like "if it can do whatever it wants, it could've killed us the whole time? And it didn't?!" Yum yum yum

Jacqueline Chon

Just got in the list for this book from my library
