The Patreon Team Leaders have spoken and today's episode is about  Redlining and HOAs. The Pearlman's try to have fun with it, but Mr. P.  mostly depresses Mrs. P. with the long and horrible history of how housing is used as an economic weapon in America.

Big thank you to "Just Liz" for making us realize that we had missed a bunch of patron shoutouts. We have corrected the issue moving forward.

And thank you to the listeners who asked us to raise the volume. We heard you, and have adjusted accordingly.

Don’t worry, I am perfectly content in my box 😅 No but actually this was a randomly generated name when I made an OKCupid account back in the day and it just stuck

YoAnge

not me listening to this after watching Last Week Tonight's episode this morning... 🫠

What an incredible episode to listen to while planning a trip to Philly to look at houses in the surrounding suburbs after moving to the country in Ohio from NE Philly only a year ago 😩

The Pod is Coming From Inside the Cast!

I live in East Kensington, it's "up and coming" because there's constant construction of stupidly overpriced apartments all over the neighborhood. We moved here because at the time my wife worked in the city and the house is close to the El. But we hate it, the house we live in was last renovated when the area was total garbage so the house is just awful. People are OD'ing a block away all the time, I've had a car vandalized, and my landlords like to remind us that we're paying less than the average in rent for the area. Getting to a supermarket is a pain in the ass and they're overpriced. And I'm seeing more and more houses go up for sale in the area, I have no idea what's going to become of this neighborhood and it's scary. What sucks even harder is we're really struggling to find somewhere to move outside of the city (we both work in Bensalem now) because we have a pitbull mix and literally nowhere will even entertain a dog of any kind. Sorry for the rant but it fucking SUCKS here.

When I started the episode, I thought I missed my shoutout in earlier episodes but “Paige Morgan, Just Morgan” is my new favorite nickname 😂

But I did have a little boy way back in my serving days make sure I knew that I shared a name with his favorite girl wrestler. He reminded me multiple times during the meal.

I concur the levels were perfect this time!

I live in Fl. Believe me, ol' Ronnie Rotten doesn't want anyone knowing how racist and oppressive his party is. Or how fascist he is.

-sadly resetting the “years since i’ve been forced to remember lemon party” counter back to zero-

Pearls before swine is where my IG name comes from 😂😂😂

My Mimi is from Kensington, so I, a person who grew up in the suburbs, am essentially from Philly ;)

I grew up in a neighborhood with an HOA. The funniest memories of it were the stupid rules that the president specifically made so that he wouldn't get re-elected as president (it didn't work). I remember a few rules were no more than 3 domesticated animals in a household and any basketball hoops had to be installed into the ground, they couldn't be just sitting there on the pavement.

Looked up a red lining map for SLC Utah and not only was it based on racism but also on whether you were Mormon or not. My home state is a disaster.

It is an incredibly name, I thought of 4 different theoretical meanings while we doing the shout outs. Love that, keep everyone on their toes! ~ Mrs. Pearlmania

Ohio to the Neast!! I can’t imagine that transition, may your meals at the dining car be fresh and your day at Southampton spa invigorating! ~ Mrs. Pearlmania

No apologies needed, This is a truly shared experience. It does suck, I hope you are able to find somewhere closer to your jobs soon. ~ Mrs. Pearlmania

The idea of claiming Stolen valor as a Kenzo, that’s the funniest fuckin thing I have heard all day. ~ Mrs. Pearlmania

I had to pause the ep (I'm behind since it's my kids spring break 😬😅), but kinda funny story! When my husband and I signed our house title, they informed us on page 5 of our CC&R. I wasn't trying to be a *complete* Betty, but I asked "what exactly happens if I violate this? Do we get evicted for a basketball hoop...?" My realtor was horrified, the notary was super pissed, but I got my answer. They can't actually do shit 🫠 come at me, bro 😅

To the comment about people listening on Amazon podcast. I actually listen on Google podcast only because its free lol. Didn't even know they had one till i looked up how to listen to your guy's podcast

See, I already had a hatred of HOAs for the reasons Mrs. Pearlmania laid out, and I had a sense of redlining, but I never really made the connection between the two, though it seems obvious now.

The weirdest was transitioning from the NE to the country, Ohio is a weird ass place. We only lasted a year out here & I’ll only miss the adorable cows. PS gotta recommend Asadero Los Tios if you’ve never been. Right on Holme Ave & Willits. ☺️

excuse me I'm sorry

I didn't know any of this about redlining but now that I do, I live in a crappy town in Texas (I know....I don't like it so I should move... if only it were that easy) and it is the epitome of the racist redline. Our east part of town is almost exclusively black. Therefore, the white people say it's scary. There are no street lights, grocery stores, nothing. It's awful that people in the past hold such sway over the people now. This is now ingrained in our society and it makes me sick.
