It's a barn burner of an episode featuring our amazing friend, Setoiyo! Back in October he came on the pod to tell us all about the history surrounding the boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston in 1964. A lot of incredible ground is covered in this episode. You can listen to Setoiyo's album on apple music or follow him on instagram to laugh and learn so much more everyday!

I honestly would have never learned all of that cool info if it wasn't on your podcast. Thank you for this. It was different, but so cool.

Great episode! Never been a boxing fan but I really enjoyed learning about it- especially tying in the civil rights! I'm loving meeting Pearlmania friends!

Thank you Setoiyo this was a great listen!! In a class I took on integration we talked about respectability politics through Jack Johnson and Joe Lewis, so to hear a more global story of Black boxing was very cool! (Also since ACOMAF was brought up during this ep, I’ve started reading the series since the first Mr. P book club and as a 22 y/o woman in the target audience I am HOOKED. I don’t think the soup thing is as bad as it’s made out to be, but regardless I’m excited for you guys to reach that stretch goal!)

I used to love watching boxing matches on TV with my Abuelo and Mom, so this episode was both fascinating and weirdly nostalgic? Awesome job! Also…I’m begging you, if there’s a way to do an ep on NOI without dying of smoke inhalation, please do it, cuz Setoiyo’s description of that organization had me dead in my chair.

One of my BFFs is living in a home in Rockville right now. This home is owned by a man who was punched by Tyson at a traffic light in one of Tyson's infamous road rage incidents back in the 90s. I just can't imagine being your average Joe who just randomly has Tyson yank you out of your vehicle and punch you. I would piss myself. Loved this episode. Have always low-key been fascinated by boxing and it's history.

LOL. I read NOI as net operating income NOT Nation of Islam. LOLOLOLLOL. I was incredibly confused for a minute. - Mr. P

By far one of my favorite episodes! Limitless thanks to Setoiyo for all of the research and hard work that went into this. Also, those McDonald’s ashtrays start at $210 on eBay. I guess that’s the price of nostalgia? Long live Mrs P’s book club.

I remember watching boxing with my grandpa as a kid. Y'all made it make sense

simplebrute

amazing episode. reminded me how I learned a few years ago that the day I was born, Ali talked a guy out of jumping off a roof. even after boxing he was still the greatest

Verity Lala

What a fantastic episode!

It’s forever wild to me how varied the topics in this podcast can be and yet I’m always entertained and ready to force the new information on every person I meet

Serason

I see Mrs. P has fellow Puertorricans in her family. Now I love her even more

This podcast got funnier knowing that Tyson is about to fuck up Jake Paul

I HATE watching or listening to sports. This episode hit me. Amazing, great work. Thank you Setoiyo and Pearlmania!

Bubbsiedaisies

Thank you so much for doing all these while you were out. I don't think you were obligated to do so, but it's been so fun! I mean almost a year later but whatever :p

Concurrently in 1964 was the Space Race. Black people were also excluded from that, at least in the public image of it. (Black people were there in the grunt labor building and calculating but no astronauts or Mission Controllers)

Politely requesting more episodes with Setoiyo 🙏🏻
