HI the first few seconds of this audio is among my most humiliating so I hope you appreciate it. We're talking about TV shows! Some of my favorites from this year, some of my all-time favorites and some fun hypotheticals like what TV show would I want to make or appear on.

We get into major spoilers for Succession Season 4 and The Last of Us Season 1, so

SPOILER TIMECODES
Succession - 7:48-15:23
The Last of Us - 16:50-20:46

Looking forward to hearing what you're watching!

snowplowed sarah 💫❄️

I LOVE TV ITS SO GREAT and the beginning of this made me cackle to myself like a lunatic whilst waiting for my drink in a Starbucks drive thru 🤣 Can’t wait to listen to the rest, thanks August!!

Rya Li

me: humiliating? he does audio porn. he's done some msub stuff, the man fucking slaps himself to make sex sounds, this isn't even NSFW, what could possibly be so hum-- me after listening to the first few seconds: AH. i see.

Emily Dawn

I was so excited for this, august! I’ve never written a post this long, so sorry in advance 😬 Towards the end you were throwing out some ideas for another discussion, and I would be SO down for album reactions or any sort of music talk, as music is my whole life. You could even include favorite tv/movie scores and soundtracks, which is something I could nerd out on for days 🤓 but for now I’ll nerd out on TV. SUCCESSION. My god. Absolutely one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen. You hit the nail on the head with “feeling all of the things” - I audibly laughed out loud throughout the final season (Carl had some surprisingly funny lines), had my heart ripped out of my chest (the Shiv/Tom fight coming to mind), and had my jaw fully hit the floor (all 62 minutes of 4x3). Also felt sick to my stomach, yes, but I thought they ended it perfectly. Every Monday morning I’d walk into work, sit down at my desk, and then in almost perfect unison, myself and my coworkers would all turn around and yell “DID YOU WATCH?” and we’d spend the first hour of the day talking about the episode hahaha it was a true bonding experience. Your thoughts on Roman’s journey are interesting, and I definitely agree to an extent! I was one of the people who interpreted the bar scene the other way, that he was coming to accept the “bullshit”, based on that glimmer of a smile at the end. From day one Roman’s character was immature and inappropriate, and to your point, VERY childlike, and they definitely made it clear he suffered a lot of abuse at Logan’s hands. I always felt like the only thing he truly wanted was Logan’s affection and respect, and maybe he felt the only way to gain that was to play the game with his siblings. He got sucked in and played hard, but he was never truly cut out for it, and once Logan was gone, it simply didn’t matter anymore. But see this is what’s great about the show - the dialogue and the way the characters interact with each other and their environment is so realistic and complicated, and even a bit ambiguous, you can interpret things in so many ways and find meaning in so many little things. Barry is SO UNDERRATED. I have told so many people to watch it and no one will take my suggestion seriously. I truly think Barry has some of the most impressive cinematic shots I’ve ever seen on television, which is sounds dramatic but I stand by it. I mean yes, you have shows like Game of Thrones and The Last of Us that are stunning, but the logistics and tech, the single shots, and the sheer scale of some of the stunts they executed in Barry blew my mind. My favorite episode is season 2, Lily and Ronnie. Might be one of my favorite episodes of TV ever hahaha my friend and I will randomly yell “WHAAT ARE YOUUU”. Thank you, Bill Hader. Between Succession, Barry, and Ted Lasso all ending at the same time, I fell into a VERY deep TV depression. Sundays are just not the same anymore. If you haven’t seen Ted Lasso, I definitely recommend. I finally succumbed to the pressure and got Apple TV just to watch that, I can’t express how much joy that show brought me. The Bear - I finally watched this with my friend, and it did not disappoint. I definitely get not being drawn to it, I wasn’t particularly at first either, but it’s similar to Succession where the dialogue is so natural it’s almost hard to believe you’re watching actors act. It’s definitely causes a lot of anxiety- I was reading a Reddit thread (of course lol) and someone said it’s the best representation of what it’s truly like to work in a kitchen that they’ve ever seen. Also, the show has an AMAZING soundtrack, you should check it out on Spotify, might motivate you to watch 😎 And my final thought, an obscure show recommendation that I’ll throw out for the fun of it: I am a very big fan of British TV, and since you mentioned a little YA action, I would love to recommend the show My Mad Fat Diary (on Hulu). Don’t be put off by the title! It’s my ultimate go-to comfort show. It’s based on the writers real journals from her teenage years; it takes place in 1996 in Stamford, England and follows a teenage girl struggling with body image, mental health, and some other heavy topics while navigating life in the 90s with her friends, boys, high school, all the things. It also stars a young Jodie Comer who I adore ❤️ and again, incredible 90s soundtrack. It’s incredibly hilarious and raunchy, portrays the most realistic and relatable human emotions, it’s heartwarming and heartbreaking, and great all around. Thanks for a great listen, August, and for making it this far in my post hahah Happy TV watching!!

Emily Dawn

HAHAHA. Okay the sopranos theme slaps, sometimes I put it on when I’m just driving around and suddenly I’m on the jersey turnpike

Rya Li

my guy my dude my brother in christ PLEASE let me know if you manage to make it thru the 2nd season of Legion--I'm really not an ~avant garde~ artsy type, critics LOVED Legion but I found it to be wayyyyy tooo muuuchhh. Our house calls it "Lesions". Don't get me wrong, I respect the production and visual design but for me all of that was at the cost of the plot/writing. I would love to do a Moans Recommends, I think it would be hilarious if all of us had absolute shit taste in non-porn media. If there's an anime category I will campaign against everything except Fullmetal Alchemist. Also, The Great is pretty fun drama/comedy-wise. I really wanna start watching The Bear and i am incredibly bad at watching tv so we'll see if i ever get there. I think you'd be great at making a Star Wars show, ya nerd. You only spent 8 years talking about it--its fun to see (hear) you get so hype about it.

snowplowed sarah 💫❄️
>>113446359

Omg I’ve been wanting to watch Barry for so long but idk how much violence I can stomach and its ranking for violence/gore being “severe” on IMDB has caused some hesitance 😬 I fucking love Bill Hader tho so I might just have to dive in one day. Also YES my mad fat diary is so hilarious and heartfelt and REAL, I remember being flooded with gifs of that show in my tumblr days 😅

Emily Dawn
>>113446359

Ahhhh I totally get the hesitance. It’s a violent show, but I will say the violence isn’t consistent! There are certain scenes that are violent but it’s… tasteful, in a way. I sound like a psychopath lmao but bill hader definitely flexes his director skills with the show, it’s hilarious. And YESSSS finally someone else who appreciates my mad fat diary! I’m about to hop on tumblr and reminisce

mercuryandthecomets

Loved this! Surprised you haven’t seen The Bear as “Yes Chef” is arguably the new “Yes Daddy!” Also, yes, Andor was KILLER. Really dove into the political aspects of Star Wars and the implications of what is really Space Facism. Really looking forward to reading your writing when you have time. I feel like you add so much character to your audios even in the short time of your set-ups!

ari

long comment ahead: firstly i want to say that you truly deserve all the support you get for your work! not just because of the quality (insane, insane quality) but also because of the community you’ve built. i respect how seriously you take all of this, and i really think you’ve done a great job. it’s honestly kind of jarring hearing these sfw audios sometimes - they’re so fun & genuinely sfw & comforting without being weird. i didn’t know a space like this could be possible, especially considering the nightmarish shit i hear about other nsfw audio creators online. you’ve just naturally kept this space as professional, respectful, and real as it could be. i’m super grateful to have found your account on tv talk: - your take on roman roy was really interesting, i was obsessed with his character while watching the show but i never considered that pov on his ending. i was more on the side that he was finally “free”, but i think your take makes a lot of sense as well - it would be really cool to hear more about your writing process, not just with audios but with your short stories as well :) i’m a writer myself (willem dafoe voice) and i used to write a lot of short stories growing up, but pivoted to screenwriting around the time i entered film school. i haven’t written a short story in a long time since i’m so used to writing scripts (usually experimental, no plot just vibes) and am very much struggling to get back into it. i think your audio writing is amazing and i would kill to know more about how you go about writing dialogue and creating characters - your tv show ideas were great; this may be a leap but i wanted to bring up something about The Bear. your friend dating show idea reminded me a bit of how the writers for The Bear go about their character dynamics, NOT that it’s a wholesome show or anything bc it’s definitely not 😭 but the concept of relationships outside of romance being just as important and life-altering. the characters on The Bear have such unique relationships with each other built upon their work & their passions, and i think you’d find it interesting if you ever got around to watching it. i’ve been thinking about the characters on that show for a while so thought i’d mention that’s all! thanks for the audio

ari
>>113454972

oh! another thing i forgot to mention - i recommend watching The Rehearsal on HBO if you haven’t already. it was very similar to Jury Duty in that it was a reality prank show but more of a dark, super-meta study on how reality TV shows treat their subjects & how people interact w the concept of “reality” in general. i’m making it sound way edgier than it might be because it’s ultimately still a comedy starring Nathan Fielder from Nathan For You, but it’s pretty hard to describe. there was a lot of controversy when it came out because of the ethics of how Nathan went about the show, and it was even compared to Jury Duty for a while. a lot of people hate the show and i understand why, i still barely know how i feel about it after so much discussion, regardless it made me think a lot and was inspired by one of my fav movies Synecdoche, New York (2008)

midnight_munchies3

The beginning really blasted me to the atmosphere, so excited to listen to this king !

lauren

As a rabid regency romance fan, you’ve got a certified hit on your hands here. Make that show or write the book, just make it happen lol

keeks

This was so fun! I always recommend the bear because it’s just that good. Season 2 episode 6 is top tier tv. True detective season 1 is one of the best written tv show I’ve ever watched so highly recommend that too Also, I agree with Ari’s idea, a walk trough your writing process would be so cool or any sort of music talk like Emily said! Here are some albums recommendations, It’s a little long sorry! If any of you have listened to any of these albums please let me know and if not I hope you enjoy discovering new music xx - billie marteen - feeding seahorses by hand (her voice feels like a warm hug, this album makes you feel like the main character in an A24 romance movie) - massive attack - mezzanine (british pop punk, a mix between radiohead, gorillaz and muse, just stellar) - little simz - sometimes I might be introverted (one of my favorite project by a rapper in a min, impeccable storytelling troughout the album, genius lyrically) - cigarette after sex - cigarette after sex (a classic for many including myself, they sing like they are trying to seduce you and it’s working btw) - leon bridges - good thing (old school soul, leon’s voice is so smooth and silky, "beyond" is one of the best love song ever) - daughter - wild youth (quality over quantity, hits right in the feels when you are young and feeling a little lost, "medicine" is one of those songs that you can’t listen to without getting teary it’s that serious) - fkj - french kiwi juice (mainly house/electro with pop, and funk influences, the album has a couple of instrumental tracks, envy songs feels like summer)

snowplowed sarah 💫❄️

This was such a blast to listen and fully geek out to! I love discussing tv/movies and hearing different POVs, gushing about fave scenes and characters and plot devices and writing I JUST LOVE CONSUMING MEDIA WOW 🍽️ 📺 Also, I think your love of TV makes so much sense considering how fleshed out your characters/dialogue is. Like it makes sense to me, based on the tv you like, that your scripts and audios are so well-written and sound really authentic and *human* haha Long, unnecessary ramble ahead: Ok ok ok I was literally thinking of how to pitch the whole “Moans Recommends” thing for MONTHS but I couldn’t figure out how to suggest it haha I am deffo in favor of a poll thing where you review/rant about media we recommend. Albums would be cool and I’m an absolute movie slut so I would love seeing what films ppl suggest and hearing what you think of them. Orrrrrr if you wanted to do something similar to “TV Talk” but it’s about your favorite movies??? I would die. You could split it up between your fave rom coms, thrillers, dramas, comedies, animated movies, etc 👀 Succession and Last of Us were soooo good, that point about Kendall’s water theme was something I never noticed and I agree that Joel is more of an anti-hero type, especially towards the end. Jury Duty was so delightful! It’s been a while since there’s been a show about genuine humanity in action imo. Been wanting to watch Fargo and Barry, I just dk how much violence I can stomach lol maybe I’ll just suck it up one day, brace myself, and give em a watch 🤷🏻‍♀️ Literally all your tv show ideas sound great, esp that original drama!! Pride and Prejudice + sword fighting and swash buckling??? SIGN ME TF UP!!! I love stories where the MC’s identity is somewhat murky/needs to be kept secret and that sweet, delicious tension just builds and builds. I also need to say that after hearing Spidey!August, I can’t stop thinking about Nightwing!August *sigh* I admittedly watch WAY too much TV, so my All Time Favorite switches around a lot. I think the one show I can always count on to make me laugh, cry, and/or just feel human is probablyyyy Scrubs, a comedy show about a group of young doctors trying to *make it* in the medical field. It’s honestly a super dorky/goofy show sprinkled with moments of humanness and tragedy, which is right up my alley haha I remember hearing that it’s one of the most accurate depictions of what it’s really like working in a hospital too, which is cool. Some other/recent faves include: Atlanta, Handmaid’s Tale, Community, Severance, West Wing, 30 Rock, Bob’s Burgers, Firefly, Portlandia, Arrested Development, and Broad City. Stranger Things is also really cool, I feel like you might like it what with all the 80s music/DnD/“nerd” culture representation it has haha Currently making my way through The Newsroom but Mindhunter and Westworld are next on my watch list, along with The Bear!! This was super fun/funny and you seemed really relaxed and comfortable, which is always great! Thanks for sharing August, have a great weekend everyone☀️

If you get into Star Trek NG please also watch Star Trek Deep Space 9. I enjoy both shows very much. But DS9 has storylines that last for seasons over mostly episodic stories in NG. Plus one of the main characters is the reason I became an engineer.

IT’S SO GOOD AND UNIQUE AND WEIRD AND IMPORTANT 🫶🏼 the range of emotions I’ve felt during a single episode is so wild. And it’s shot so beautifully omg

Omg I haven’t listened to the full albums (yet) but both “Teardrop” by Massive Attack and “Medicine” by Daughter give me fuckin goosebumps 😭😭

HAHA I feel like it may have been in my brain--I went very hard on the Sopranos earlier this year and then abruptly stopped bc I found some of the storylines really upsettting! But I did find it so compelling so I should grit my teeth and give it another go

midnight_munchies3

If fantasy worldbuilding is your thing, the six of crows books are definitely worth a read! There's a bigger focus on the world, the characters and -my favourite bit- the heist aspect :))

midnight_munchies3

Hot take: bridgerton s2 is miles better than s1. Making wise choices there August 👍🏻

Yep on strike 🙄 I’m just a bit sad that the strike started JUST when I was about to start loll, just went back to germany :// ANYWAYS my favs are (pretty underrated) PENNY DREADFULLLL best seance I’ve ever seen on TV Eva green is an icon!! I liked Beef on Netflix came out a month ago I think I don’t know. And of course HOTD (I’m a huge asoif fan) I’m pretty sad that paddy considine didn’t get nominated for the emmys, i think I’ve never cried more for an GOT character :/ (had an headache for a week straight ngl) viserys is such an overhated character, also can we talk about the symbolisms 🤭🤭 My man started rotting😫 #teamblack btw when bestie rhaenyra said „exhausting wasn’t it? Hiding beneath the cloak of your own righteousness“ I SCREAMED GEGEGEG🤖🤖🕺🕺 I thought I watch too much tv when I realised that I didn’t watch a single one you mentioned 🤨 I’ll get my mom and watch some of them today 100% (wish me luck german dub is crazzzzyy😭) Ah yeah I’ve watched black mirrors final season and I reaally like Loch Ness?? Was that the name of the episode? Nah I’m good at guessing the plot and I was close but it still shook me! I didn’t like beyond the sea pretty overrated only thing I liked was Aaron’s performance, striking vipers was definitely better (in my opinion)

Siren

NOT DOWNTON ABBEY 😭😭 I died when yk who died

Siren

I have cool ideas but I can’t write 😭 I was thinking about a cyberpunk aesthetic too but in the blade universe? Y’all remember blade? Got to adapt blood bath too 😭😭

Amazing_Thanks
>>113461176

One of the later season of NG introduces DS9 so there is some crossover with characters but it is not that consequential to the storyline. Also if you have never seen the show Firefly that would be one for your list. It is a space western that is 1 season and a movie.

alice

This was fun! I almost feel weirder listening to your SFW stuff than your NSFW stuff. Like, your other content is porn and that makes sense, but this is fangirl content and that’s very different! I guess it’s similar to how your intro jingle feels more humiliating to you than everything else you record. It’s also pretty funny to me that you’d view us as a captive audience… my guy, we’re paying to listen to you. We’re the literal opposite of a captive audience! Re: Last of Us: I interpreted Joel’s decisions in the last episode completely differently! He’s traumatized about contributing to his daughter’s death by placing trust in the wrong people. We agree that he saved Ellie because he’s attached to her, but I disagree that it’s an unhealthy attachment. Ellie choosing Joel over Tommy really cemented their parent/child bond, and it’s true that parents would let the world burn for their child if it came to it. There’s no way he would allow his new daughter to be slaughtered. In reality, the chances that those scientists would have managed to synthesize a cure were always slim (do they even know what they’re looking for?! you’re telling me they managed to find medical mycologists in the apocalypse?! why are they killing her?! they’re gonna need more samples! have they never done an experiment before?! it’s not gonna work the first time. just ugh.). Yeah Joel lied to her, but she had already been lied to - she didn’t know she was going to be killed, and why would you burden her with that information when everyone involved is dead now anyway? I still agree with him as a parent, even knowing what I know about the plot of part 2. Recommendations---- You mentioned Star Trek: TNG which is definitely a good watch, if a little slow to find its groove. DS9 is also great; it’s grittier and more “human” and has multiple-season story arcs about war and cultural cooperation, largely because it takes place on a stationary space station rather than a ship. The currently-airing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been wonderful so far also. I haven’t liked a lot of the new Trek, but this one is funny and character-driven and a little wacky underneath a very thin social commentary like great Trek should be. Lower Decks is also really fun. They’re actually doing an unusual crossover episode next week in which the voice actors for two of the main characters on Lower Decks (which is animated) will be appearing as their characters on Strange New Worlds (which is live-action). Edit: omg I saw they released the episode early, right after posting this. It was fucking rad - probably the best episode of Trek since the DS9/TOS crossover. Meta fan service that is actually an essential part of the story?! Yes please. Speaking character-driven shows: Beef. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever watched and I still think about it all the time. I think it’s on Netflix. Seriously, everyone should watch Beef because it’s excellent. And finally, I didn’t know Prehistoric Planet existed because I don’t have Apple TV, but I need to see it because it sounds freakin’ awesome. I just watched an episode of PBS Nature called Attenborough’s Wonder of Song that was really moving and would be a great watch if you’re a fan of his. He discusses his favorite animal sound recordings throughout his entire career and their significance to him and the world. It was lovely and very emotional. I don’t usually cry while watching Nature but there I was.

Eden

I am the absolute worst at watching tv cause Im scared of commitment when it comes to things like finales and hiatuses for shows I’d like

Teardrop is the theme song for the show House which I used to watch religiously. Great show, great song, and I recommend both!

Oh shit, I forgot about the Magicians! That was an awesome show too and is especially suited to the theater kid type.

hope you had fun at barbenheimer! if you ever do a movie chat obvi would love to hear your thoughts! ok you made SUCH good point about succession that they're shown to be powerful and cunning and part of the societal elite, but they're never allowed to have dignity. or like, regular happiness lol. even when they get what they want, they're not happy bc they crushed everything and everyone else to get it. you can tell you’re a writer by your pure unadulterated passion for the character and story dynamics of succession lmao OMFG i ♥️ the idea of a friend “dating” show. i actually work in reality tv (not development, don’t worry) and i am up to my eyeballs in bikini island dating shows, which i don’t even watch haha. adding strategy and gamifying connection/“love” kinda icks me out (zero disrespect if anyone watches those shows, just not my thing) but i can see enjoying it more in a friendly way- and even without a game element i think i would be more interested in seeing people just try to make friends (and if they fall in love that’s a bonus!) JURY DUTY. JURY DUTY! amazon needs to pay me for how much evangelizing i did for that show. oh my god, best ever. i watched the first 3 eps in one sitting with a big group of friends and we were literally SCREAMING. when i went to the margaritaville at city walk i was like on my knees in prayer. sacred space you prefaced your regency idea for sooo long and then literally rattled off the most original storyline & thorough pitch omfg. i want to watch that so bad!!! i think it would be a rich environment for a good feisty romance too, like a fellow noble or even chambermaid that’s suspicious of him from the beginning and won’t get off his ass or someone recognizes him from his adventures and double blackmails him 😩

Sofia

Guess who’s FINALLY GONNA LISTEN

@thelnie yes!! kaz is such a well done character and imo, freddy carter plays him really well in the show. he doesn't hold a flame to inej ghafa, queen of my heart, though.

YESSS I fully thought august was gonna talk about it bc it’s SO GOOD but it came out in 2022 🥲🥲 I have to actively stop myself from spiraling into sadness when I think about the delays in production for season 2

geekinthepink

If someone knows of a novel like that Highway man/Bridgerton plot, please let me know. Let's keep that idea alive and well. Pride and Prejudice needs way more swashbuckling for me! I prefer Sense and Sensibility as a story because there's a bit more drama. Favourite show in the past year might be Interview with the Vampire. It's beautifully done in every way and was snubbed at awards season. Here's a few possibly underrated all time faves: UnREAL, Episodes, Parenthood, Mozart in the Jungle, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and Masters of Sex. I might watch 1923 Yellowstone, Andor, The Bear, Shrinking, Schitt's Creek and Good Omens season 2 next.

malika.

Ah, I could talk for hours and hours about Succession. And same here for it making me laugh and nearly cry. It's so incredible the amount of emotion that show got out of me like I have legitimately been anxious even over a car ride to Logan. I def don't want to spoil anything for someone scrolling, but if someone is doing so and hasn't seen it then pleaseeee give it a try. I am so fascinated by the writers' abilities to make me so attached to a cast of characters that I find deeply unlikable lol. Like I do not like any of these characters “as people,” but I don't require that in a piece of media especially when the writing still makes me want to follow them. I was so, so captivated and invested in their entire fight for the throne, so to speak. I was so into the dynamics that these characters had with themselves and with each other as family, competitors, allies, and antagonists (and how those labels bounced around or combined or got snatched away throughout the show). Then, the acting—all these brilliant actors coming together and finding out through the BTS after each episode that a lot them all use different acting techniques, but each reached such a high level of performance. Then, the composer Nicholas Britell taking the same motif from the theme and using it so well and in so many different ways through the show (like the last version of it at the end of the series finale 'Andante Risoluto?' I think I listened to it almost non-stop for like two weeks after the show ended lol). Gah, I love Succession so, so much. I'd never heard of Prehistoric Planet, but I really do love documentaries in every form. It's nice that you have a comfort show (mine's def Bob's Burgers) past the Shakespearean and post-apocalyptic dramas hee. I never did get to season 2 of Shadow & Bone. Now that it's canceled, I'm thinking I won't and I might just finally pick up the books. Fargo sounds like something I would like me thinks. Avatar: the Last Airbender was very formative for me. I kinda wish the live action show was about another avatar (maybe Kyoshi? I don't remember the ins and outs and haven't read her novels, but she seemed to be the opposite of Aang in terms of his pacifism which could have been interesting). You like the Pride & Prejudice movie (and Peaky Blinders)? omg I'm gonna refrain from another paragraph and a half by just saying same (and same) lol. I wonder if you've gotten to some of the shows you've mentioned here (Bridgerton S2, Star Trek, The Bear) since it's been awhile. And I would love to hear what your favorite (or least favorite too?) movies from last year were or your favorite movies in general or if you have any formative ones? I def have a 'this show would be cool to be on' list, but this comment is already so long lol. Thanks for sharing!

wiggie winter hymnal❄️

the other day my coworker asked me if I had seen Succession yet and I said “no I haven’t, but one of my…. tv show podcasts… talked about it recently and said it was good.” and he goes “oh which podcast??” I said “…I…. don’t.. remember.”

jadeandpearls

Late as all hell but I live, laugh, love talking about television and film so: - It’s been a year since TLOU and I still have opinions™️ about Joel and Ellie, like I could write an essay, but I will refrain because spoilers. Most of all, I think the show (and the game) does a really good job at exploring purely morally gray characters and making you care for their perspective, even when vastly different from the other. The creative direction was also top notch, particularly the dedication to developing side characters (still crying over Bill and Frank). - Andor was also so good! I love a good spy drama and really enjoyed that they catered that one to a more adult audience and gave us something with substance. I loved Rogue One though if I’m honest, so I had high hopes. - Bridgerton is banger, they hit on the regency angst and pining every time. Season 2 is better than Season 1, but I think Season 3 is going to destroy all of us. The Queen Charlotte offshoot was also decent, but I’m honestly just a sucker for that genre of media; I’ve had Pride and Prejudice brainrot since I was a teenager. Recommendations: - I really loved Beef with Ali Wong and Steven Yeun on Netflix and it might’ve been in my top 5 of 2023. It was super unhinged and funny but very human and compelling and I loved the storytelling. I feel like you mentioned you loved Everything Everywhere All At Once in your AMA and if so, you might really go in for this show too; it’s also from A24. - Also Yellowjackets! Would highly recommend for a good suspense drama and one of my favorite Showtime properties since Penny Dreadful. I can usually figure out plots (it’s the ADHD) and spoil things for myself, but I wasn’t able to for this show, which is a testament to the writing. - The Bear was incredible imo but I also watched with a few chef friends who all felt super seen by it. I do think it has one of the best on screen depictions of panic/anxiety that I’ve seen recently and I honestly loved Richie’s character development in season 2 the most of all. The writing and acting is just so good. Would love a 2024 rundown of your favs if you have the time! 💖💖

Very late to this and speaking into a void here, but it’s interesting to hear you name the world and environment of a work as the reason for wanting to act in something. I don’t think I’ve ever thought to myself that I would want to be on a show to experience moving around in a specific setting. I think I’m much more driven by specific characters. I usually will see something in a character that resonates with me and think, “I’d love to breathe life into that and bring my own take to the table.” I don’t have a world I’d like to inhabit as an actor, but I am very tickled by the aestheticized gore in shows like HBO Hannibal. I’d also enjoy being in a historical Something (probably drama and romance) set in the country of my origin. But hmm, the specific shows (and feature films) I’d love to have starred in are Santa Clarita Diet, Always Be My Maybe, and The Handmaiden. Or anything that lets you dip into comedy and drama both. Or chick flicks? I can dream.

Relistening to this today as I work my silly little email job. I’d love an updated 2024 August’s TV Talk for a future SFW! I have v similar media tastes (Succession and ATLA are two of my all-time favorites!) and genuinely enjoy hearing your thoughts. I hope atp you’ve finally watched The Bear! I’d be curious to hear your take on the S2 vs. S3 comparison discourse. Ever since S3 came out, I’ve also been sketching out an audio concept based loosely on The Bear…👀 just imagine all the fun possibilities for Speaker Chef x Listener Chef! Oh and Bridgerton! If you haven’t seen Bridgerton S3 yet, that could be a cool Moans Recommends? I can’t be the only one wondering your opinions (especially as a F2L prodigy!) on the Pen x Colin season… imo the writers completely fumbled it! Kudos to the Tailor audio for single-handedly restoring my faith in Regency-inspired romance! lmao Anywayyyy more TV chat (and/or movie chat if you wanna branch out!) would be super fun for future SFW! 💌

Possibly talking into the void here, but I can’t believe HBC finally got me to watch Succession. I loved it! So funny, so heartbreaking. One thing that struck me was that none of Logan’s romantic partners ever seemed surprised/put off kilter by the depths of his cruelty, but his children were over and over. A clever little bit about the mistreatment or abuse of women being indicative of larger structure violence, but not being understood as such. I also thought it was interesting that whenever the kids were given outs, they didn’t take them. I’d attribute that to the bit in Shiv’s speech about the light of Logan’s love being so warm….when you were in it. Holding onto the company, they can continue striving to warm themselves in that light, be recognized by him. When in fact the more substantive recognition and connection would come from each other. Which is why the boardroom scene was so heartbreaking, they were so close!!! They end up cannibalizing each other just as dad taught them. There’s a finite sum of love/attention/safety, and to the winner goes the spoils. Also I thought about Roman’s nihilism being both about their family’s legacy and evil but also about their personhood? If Logan really didn’t give two shits about them, the lie they told themselves all this time would be revealed and would absolutely shatter their senses of self. They would be nothing, they wouldn’t matter. That’s why they need all these shiny accomplishments. Talking about Succession and TLOU, this made me realize both shows feature people viewing others as pathways to absolution, redemption, and/or victory. A faulty premise on its face since a person is just a person. Lots of people who feel very internally out of control trying to find an external means to regain control. People become objects, and they never get the intimacy they so desperately crave. Some favorite TV shows of mine I didn’t see mentioned yet: Lovesick, Brass Eye, QI, Absolutely Fabulous, It’s Always Sunny, Sharp Objects A single base thought: Sarah Snook, Matthew MacFadyen hot. The most toxic part of me would like to be part of the horrifying psychosexual dance Shiv and Tom are doing. Pedro Pascal also hot. This was super fun, I hope for more TV Talks (including the theme song) in the future!

Going through the backlog, I’m enjoying these SFW audios. Man, I am so behind on the TV shows, i barely have the time! First of all, the intro is gold. Please make this jingle a thing for the August TV Talks 😂❤️ I did watch Fargo, I loved the idea of an anthology! Need to probably rewatch to remember more but I know I absolutely love Martin Freeman, that season was intense! I played The Last of Us, both games, and loved both of them. Didn’t get the time to watch the series, but I’m hoping it lived up to the hype! Bridgerton Season 2 to me was more intense and entertaining than the first, and I’m yet to watch the third! Gotta go back for my regency-esque stuff! Of course also enjoyed Game of Thrones and House of Dragons, didn’t finish the latter’s new season yet! Again, falling so behind! I’m down with the “Moans Recommend” thing! You gotta do it if you haven’t already! Also, as someone who enjoyed Peaky Blinders and Bridgerton, I was so hooked on your original idea! As soon as you mentioned the gang moving into the manor, I knew it was gonna be absolute gold. I hope one day you make it happen! Pretty sure the Moans being kept hostage by you on Patreon listening to your rants on movies and TV shows don’t mind it 😂 Thanks for the audio! Hope you have a great one!

!!!!!! Some of your characters have vocal tics that sound like Kendall Roy (Hope I don't end up imagining him 😖)

thank you yapping august for keeping me company as i clean my bedroom 💞 ⭐️ current fav tv shows: the bear, industry (HBO), interview with the vampire, TLOU ⭐️ all time faves: criminal minds, MTV’s daria, seinfeld, gilmore girls, succession, better call saul ⭐️ watching next: dexter, arcane s2, you (the show!), maybe gossip girl even though the characters inevitably annoy me ⭐️ dream TV show: my ideal adaptation of probably my favorite book of all time, the secret history, would definitely be a gloomy, prestige miniseries produced by HBO or something with unknown stage actors and writing by donna tartt herself. ⭐️ tv show i’d like to be on: i’ll admit i’ve always romanticized the small town life + private school drama of gilmore girls (particularly seasons 1-3). on the total opposite end of that, i’d want to be on the boys or gen V because i want superpowers #sobad.

also. i’m making this a reply because my comment was long enough as it is, but if you haven’t already, based on liking succession so much i think you’d like sharp objects, HBO’s industry, and severance on apple TV! sharp objects for the examination of trauma and weird families, industry for the chaos and tension of corporate america + complex relationships, and severance for a more depressing, tech dystopian look at the future of working in corporations. 🥳
