Get your sea god d*ck off my potatoes, and slide up a stool to chat with the gang about the latest ep, the nature of spirits, and Eursulon's quarterly one-on-one 360 review with the King of Night. You KNOW they're all "showing nhole" for this one, fam, no cap!

'We have such body delights to show you!'

Zoop

So excited for this fireside chat! This was also a favorite episode of mine!

Fergus Bremner

The man in black is Tom Waits and you can't change my mind

C. A. Whyse

Loving the fact that the Wizard's First Rule is lodged so deep in Brennan's brain, he forgot the origins. Terry Goodkind hit me in the soul as well.

Joel Coxhead

Worlds Beyond Number can get a shadow Moonlight Sword that Lou Wilson can bring into other campaigns? I dunno, sounds pretty cool

Sil

"I have two notebooks and I can't read..." That was a full sentence to me. I have taken all these notes. I can't read. I'm the DM... fk.

Emily C

Cannot believe Horner Corner didn't come back to explain vore, though Bilquis reference almost gets us there. Glad Heinrule is still with us - is cutting each other's heads off kind of a fun spirit thing? Poor sweet Brennan - the expressions were always there in the kinky portions of the world but are just bubbling up to main(er) stream. People gettin wild on main Cthuloid is a new one for me but I enjoy it - I usually hear Eldritch At 16:45 ish is someone literally in a well or drinking on mic? Haha Not gonna lie, Eurselon being butt ass naked does put a different spin on the scene but not by much. And admitting that he would have taken the sword if it saved his friends!!!! I can't imagine what life looks like after citadel destruction lol, what kind of life does Suvi have then

Serenity4Jane

Hmmmmm ... cut the spirit world from the mortal world maybe?

Ale

Please drop Brennan's feelings wheel

Matt F

The book Brennan can't remember in reference to tricking people is probably Wizard's First Rule, which is pretty good. Don't bother with the rest of the author's books.

SO THANATOASTED

YES! The moment he said it I was like "I understood that reference!"

CW

Almost like it was "SET" in his mind

Glen Petrofski

Okay, I fully missed the sexual tension when Eursulon reattached the sword to lord of darkness. To me it appeared to me as a sign of kinship and respect for each other. Also love Eursulons title that was said by The Wondered.

Glen Petrofski

I am fantastic at making notes back when I was at Uni, then never look at them again because I could understand them even though everyone else could. Then again, some notes they couldn't and I could . It made study group a fun game for everyone as we'd share around my notes and play a cypher game.

Jennifer Sieben

Maybe it's not the book Brennan was thinking of when talking about how to deceive people, but it instantly made me think of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind in which the wizard's first rule is "People are stupid. They can be made to believe any lie because they want to believe it's true or because they are afraid it's true."

JoelleDFTBA

Brennan bringing out the speech act theory!!!

Shadarous

Don't think i didn't notice the Ptolemaic scholar coding of the new wizard Brennan. Excellent.

Conner

Desperately awaiting evil 2 sword Eursulon fanart.

jonathan holland

Honestly I don't even need them to talk about the show anymore, im here just to listen to half the cast be bewildered by the other half

D4t Suç

WWW episode 30 when?

Moe

As you guys described the Americana tricksters I was instantly thinking: "oh, you mean Columbo?", "So, you're talking about Columbo?", "Ah, yes, classic Columbo". Glad that Brennan was thinking the same lol!

Jayfeather

I need to know who’s making these episode descriptions and what drugs they’re taking lmao

Jayfeather

Talking about Naraam’s dick, I am once again asking what Heinrul’s junk is

Fergus Bremner

From the moment we heard him speak that's who he was in my mind and everything since has confirmed it to me

James

Being asexual, I'm usually on Brennan and Lou's side of bafflement, but listen "the pressure" is 100% a valid explanation of why the opening body horror scene is Good Shit.

Dani Hughes

Poor Brennan and Lou lol they are such innocent little guys dealing with the Kink Queens

FooldiverDX

Suvi's section was so much fun. Aabria wanted more whimsey, she got it

mguin

Hercules' "NOOPE" about the ski lift 😂

D4t Suç

latest episode is the spy on my yt, i feel crazy

Bingus2277

I WAS THINKING COLUMBO THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME!!!! THE WAY I SCRUMT

Faith Price

That "Oh, I don't know that it's that hard of a riddle," made me burst out laughing.

Austin

So excited to see how Lou handles getting spit out in the absolute cluster **** of a situation

Carrie Mook Bridgman

Again with the clothes. Eursulon in his true form is a beast with fur and feathers. I wouldn't describe Heinrul as "naked" when he's a wolf. Other than sword and pauldron, I assume Eursulon's human clothes are worn when he's in human shape and are essentially part of his glamor. Otherwise they would rip if he changed. Brennan says spirits have no body shame, and Hercules says Eursulon didn't think of it at the time. I just thought it was an odd thing to bring up.

Emily C

I think it's Taylor

Jess

I am anxious about that scarf that Brennan keeps reminding them is in the room while they share all of their secrets - even though it is “muffled.” A high roll could maybe still hear things?

bails 🌀 witch of the what the fuck

with what context we’ve been given about spirits thus far, i don’t think this is the case… but i hope Suvi does just a REAL quick Detect Magic on that pocket watch to check for scrying 😅 also, i’m curious if there’s any connection between the spring beneath Grandma Wren’s cottage and the well in the grove. Ame received a vision from the spring and the Man in Black received a vision from the well…? 🤔 perhaps it’s as simple as their proximity to spirits. MUCH TO CONSIDER ✍🏻

KM

Ok, I do want to watch Brennan do a Smartypants presentation on Columbo being the greatest American trickster.

LSky670

I need to draw that au of Eursulon and the seafood chef escaping the citadel 😆

The Wizard Syntax

Loved that Suvi used Wizard's First Rule against Indri.

Bryn

The briar rabbit stories are actually based on Anansi the spider stories!! Also the way brennan and abria explained how the fox is learning is legitimately helping me understand how i process language as a neurodivergent person 😂

yimyams

i never imagined spirit Eursulon with pants, not a single time. cloak and paldron das it

Brandon Carbaugh

I adore the endless interplay between Brennan and Lou drawing new lines of horrific violence in the sand, with the assumption that surely THIS cannot POSSIBLY be construed as a kink thing, and then Erika and Aabria coming in like "No, it can." I can just listen to that forever. This is my new mythic trickster cycle. This is why the sun and moon go around in the sky.

argylsocks

The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One aka Fox Gains Sentience and Learns Pragmatic Theory (ft. Grice's Maxims)

Darcy Barlow

“The greatest American trickster of all: Columbo.” Add it to the BLeeM quote book…

Jack Jones

I'm loving that Aabria asked the question that was burning in my head about The Stranger about asking his true name so im happy to hear that could not have happened because if it could the implications would have been massive

RobbieQ

RELEASE THE SCREAM CUT

domino

Taylor please release the gasp cut

Ren Challacombe

i fully thought the tension was “are you gonna kill him” not “are you gonna fuck.” but i mean in some instances that’s absolutely one and the same

Brandon Carbaugh

After listening to this last episode again, I'm gonna make a called shot from 300 yards out: The kindly, caring, forgiving, assume-the-best-of-everyone tendencies that defined Grandma Wren, and which Ame feels such a constant obligation to match and live up to, will be sorely tested by the story, and may even prove to be slightly misguided. Meanwhile, Ame's wily, impish, mischievous, devious, foxey bullshitery--the true core of who she is, as a little Bugs Bunny shithead goblin kid with disheveled hair--will be the essential nugget that winds up defining her relationship to, and unique spin upon, her station as a fully grown-up Witch of the World's Heart. Like I think if a little kid were to meet Old Ame 200 years on, she'd be a little weirdo freak like Yoda or season 1 Iroh, jumping around and acting goofy. All "(shrug) What do I know? I'm just a crazy old forest lady 🤷‍♀️". Every crazy thing she says is actually 8 kinds of wise, and every sagacious bon mot she gravely intones is just her fucking with you. She'd give you a gift and you only realize what it does at the moment you need it most. A real pain in the ass type grandma, whose cunning was actually hard-won, and whose laidback Zen outlook is actually the end of a long and challenging road beset with trial and failure. (Which I guess means The Fox will have become a dapper, well-spoken, worldly gentleman who rolls his eyes at his master's immature antics? Who knows!)

Taliesin Breen

I’m so glad it opened with a discussion about Euroson getting swallowed. Erika and Aabria’s reaction was exactly what I expected. When it happened in ep I remember thinking “vore, in this Ghibli-inspired DnD show? Can’t wait to hear E and A’s reaction.”

rio

If you make a t shirt that says "I M F U L L O F S N A K E S ! ! ! ! !" I will wear it forever

The Wizard Seek

Why do I feel like the thing the Stranger is attempting to avoid upon drawing his blade is a retributive curse from Grandmother Wren, for the attempt on her life? I feel like that's enough to give a spirit of his power pause, and God am I hoping to see it!

Christopher Mihatsch

When Suvi asked what was drawn on her face, I was waiting for a response along the lines of "that manticore anatomy is REALLY detailed!" And for a moment I thought we were gonna see a "hexadin" Eursulon, with the Man in Black as his patron.

TheloniousPunkyBrewster

So does the pocket watch have a single use of "Time Stop" in it or no? 🤔

Dominic Corbin

Oh that's where that's from! God that series got so terrible as it went on

Dominic Corbin

That's a VERY interesting thought. What exactly is the form of Wren's curse on the Man in Black? There must be one

Quest Bruv

Saying there would be two swords "like Leonardo" is not selling it. Worst ninja turtle.

Maria

Love hearing some Deadeye in The Stranger

C. A. Whyse

The TV series was trash, I agree. I'm talking about the books. I fell off after reading quite a few of them. Not sure how many there are altogether.

Jack Jones

I wouldnt say it was from then as that was recent and he mentioned he has not drawn it in an age of men, perhaps its a taboo he has we already know he cant stray far from the roads

The Wizard Seek

Ooh, I did forget that fact! Thank you for the reminder. Though, I wouldn't doubt he does have some kind of curse from Grandmother Wren after the attack and I'm still excited to see if that's the case!

Aviva

I didn’t know that! Very cool. I only really know Anansi through Gaiman, but I’ll have to look for more. PS I believe her name is spelled Aabria. 😊

Aviva

Right?! Like, just make a point of loading the wizards’ things onto The Meridian and dispel magic. Seems like a perfectly wizardly, pragmatically paranoid protocol. I didn’t know that was going to come out so alliterative. At least hide it away better! Like in a box in a closet of a bedroom of an unused floor of the tower with as many closed doors as possible. *Indri is listening!*

Aviva

I will not.

Aviva

A joyful gift to the world.

Aviva

I just finished watching Magic & Misfits on D20 last night. I’m imagining Jammer hyping up Vandal and it’s *delightful.* 🤘🏼

Jess

Wild guess, but in my mind, the Grove may be where Grandmother Wren have hosted the Conclave when it was her turn. So I think it being connected to her house makes sense. :)

GC

Let us not let Erika's top-tier calculus humor go unacknowledged in the comments. Exceptional episode, exceptional fireside!

Flem Candango

When Brennan starts talking about how themes and symbology don't need to be conscious to be in play or valid, it warms my art school heart. It shows a real confidence in the work when you can be all "Jung, take the wheel!" Let the story/artwork/whatever's creation, as well as the interaction with the viewer's psyche dictate the symbolism. The collaborative nature of the game adds a third point where the themes and symbols can interact with the story. All of the above makes the subtext of the final product incredibly dynamic in a way that holding tight to those things would stifle.

August Scott

Where are people posting questions that come up in these episodes?

Alyssa

Between the description of Ursulon being all about honor and "not my potatoes!!", really giving ATLA today 😆

Krusty Bo Busty

I think just in the comments of the episode

Dave Thomer

There is a Google form, the link to which is included in the pinned FAQ post.

Josh Emden

Ame's conversation with Tefmet was as infuriating as it was perfect and perfectly shows the difference between her and Suve. Leaving aside the fact that they're an Antivolian, if Suve were there, she would be extracting as much information as she could - "four great witches, TELL ME MORE" - Ame's priority is making them feel comfortable and making friends. Such a good witch of the world's heart.

C. A. Whyse

I want you to be correct about this so bad LOL

Matthew

Maybe a classic like, "The harm you do to another shall be inflicted threefold on you as well."

Riley Crowder

I think it's worth noting that Daisho is the name for the specific two sword set of a Katana and Wakasashi. It's not the name of the specific 2 sword fighting technique that uses those blades, that has a number of different names across the eras. Their are also a number of different two Blade techniques across cultures with many different names. Yes I know Pedantic, but that's how we nerd sometimes. :)

Trintin Chick

Hi sweets ...no spoilers please...I have not seen ep 30 yet. I am sure it is explained how the release schedule works somewhere...but as a newer member can someone enlighten me to how this all works. I've only just caught up and haven't had to worry about when things come out and on what platform. So...obvi this fire side 30 is here...but the main ep is not up on youtube yet. When should I anticipate that happening?

Óró!

Hey yep I gotta say I H8ed “Cthuloid” in a visceral way :’)

worldsbeyondnumber

Hey there Trintin, check out the FAQ pinned as our top patreon post for help getting all the right audio in all the right places. -t

Trintin Chick

Hey T man! I have reviewed the FAQ ME post...and I don't think it contains the answer to my question. I of course see that the show comes out Bi-weekly. But as of yet, episode 30 has not released on YouTube yet, and I just wondered if standard protocol was 'it gets there when it gets there' or if, barring the aforementioned wiggle room, y'all had concrete time windows? YouTube is my preferred viewing method, but I suppose I should just use another service then?

Jessica Lazarus

Episodes come out on Spotify and other podcast apps, and then Fireside Chats come out the Tuesday after. The episodes come out on YouTube about a week or so after release on Spotify

Naomi Smith

I just want to let Aabria and Erika know that they match my freak even if BLeeM and Lou don’t #horncorner🖤 #foldmeinhalfmommy

worldsbeyondnumber

Yep, as we say in the FAQ we recommend listening to the show on an actual podcast app, explicitly not Google podcasts (which has been folded into YouTube music) because it’s a notoriously buggy product and Google has a history of handling podcasts badly. However, YouTube Music allows you to manually add any rss feed you would like. You can find our public RSS feed by simply googling “worlds beyond number rss”. Using a podcast app or adding the feed manually to YouTube music should get you the show asap upon release. -t

An absolutely epic episode with SO MUCH! It was really just so dense with so much beautiful description and massive plot moves and I love this show so much and I’m thrilled to be caught up! Thank you for the amazing work you all do!

SmileyGuy

“Can you pick up my sword so I don’t have to lean so close to your junk?”

Sanna G.

I can relate to Ame’s role as keeper of the world’s heart: her social responsibilities to make friends and build and mend bridges, and help practically in whatever way she can resonates with me because my work feels quite similar. Technically, I’m an English teacher (in Japan), but more than anything my conversation groups are meant to facilitate social structure and help people make friends and keep their minds healthy and active (which is especially important as I work with a lot to older people, who can sometimes feel left behind in a world that values youth and productivity). It’s wonderful to be able to have tea with them and encourage their talents and watch them get to know each other and grow as a community. Also, I tend to the gardens around the church and kindergarten, and I live in a tiny wooden cottage under a cherry tree with my two birds and my rabbit (familiar?) named Henry.

Seamstrix

Columbo themed one shot would be so sick 🔎

Sanna G.

Same. I just assume Spirits work differently than humans. Besides, I find it kinda boring to read every interaction as sexual; that would be like thinking my everyday interactions with people as somehow charged with sexual interest and attraction. Exhausting. There are so many interesting ways to view the world, and to only look through one lens is a bit limiting. I think this is just personally a pet peeve of mine—the Hollywood trope of putting romantic love/sexual interest above all others. I am more interested in seeing people navigate all kinds of personal constellations: parents, friends, family, masters, servants, rivals.

Daniel Stevens

I like watching the difference in perspectives of the spirits and mortals in what is, essentially, a shared existence.

KSolstice

The way that voice is edited is CRAZY gives me shivers each time so fucking scary I lovee it

Kael McDonald

That is correct, but unfortunately you didn't say "Um, actually," so we can't award you the point

Kael McDonald

Exactly! I thought my man was Donald Duck-ing it this whole time

Glen Petrofski

I have a hard time with relationship portrayals where people of differing genders can't be friends. I enjoy media where friends just stay actual friends and there is no awkward will they won't they. Then again it is hard to find things when people in stable happy relationship with or without a romantic or sexual party.

Sanna G.

Same! There’s not enough good portrayals of wholesome platonic relationships. (Which is perhaps why I dislike shipping culture in general.)

BigMomma

I think the stranger somehow knew the first witch of the worlds heart and she is the reason he doesn’t wish to use his blade

D4t Suç

I didn't know yall post to spotify, sorry Taylor. Your sound design is insane and you are an endless inspiration. :-)

The Witch of Wandering Dreams

Bestie Brennan, Oh so sweet and loving Brennan, Brennan who's knowledge is vast and great. Will you please tell us what the remaining six domains are. We don't need to know every witch that has been there or even the last ones just the domains that Hakea chose.

God I love Br’er rabbit. I written papers on that Wiley trickster.

I just wanna know how often the cops show up where Erika is

Esther Bee

I feel like Tefmet is from the past???? Or like is a character out of time somehow??? I have no specific reasons at my fingertips but I feel it man

Esther Bee

“little weirdo freak like Yoda” is so good and funny and I appreciate you

Esther Bee

I wonder how that interplays, in world, with Eursulon growing up in the world of man. Like I’m sure it effects(affects?) his understanding of nakedness. He was so little when he left the cottage. Eh, just interesting

Destiny

Yes absolutely. I know it's kinda giving chronurgy wizard but in my heart... Clockwork soul sorc Tefmet...

DaphneDawn

Name Suvi the Witch of Wizards & Wands!

Kolbjorn

OH MY GOD HE EMBRACED HIM LIKE A BROTHER T_T Ugh I feel like this is what Eurulon has wanted for so long he's accumulating close bonds with other spirits I j7st wanna smash stuff about my feelinks

CSN

That's illegal.

CSN

There has never been a better pivot to "and I'm proud to be an'merican...." 🥲🍆🫡🇺🇲

Matthew Bruce

"Wizards First Rule", by Terry Goodkind inthe Sword of Truth series, is the book that says what Brennan mentioned about deception around the 36 minute mark.

Adam

been catching up on episodes this week and GODDAMN wbn team!!! this one went hard as hell! taylor's soundscaping during and transitioning between all of these wildly different scenes, aabria's killah dice rolls and SUCH A SMART play with vandal the ink spirit, erika's meet-cute with a sniffly paranoid wizard, eursalon's absolutely terrifying and heartbreaking scene with the traveler.... honestly "the snake" is up there as one of my favorite eps so far. love the podcast and sendin all the best wishes to your team and your loved ones 💥❤

William Krise

I do really like how calm Eursulon is when talking to the Man in Black, it's so cool seeing the difference between how Suvi and Ame talk about him and how Eursulon talks to him. To Suvi and Ame he's a terrifyingly powerful and enigmatic threat, but he and Eursulon are kin, and that comes across really well in their interactions. It is as the Man in Black says; they may next meet as foes, but they will still be brothers.

William Krise

the forgotten fifth type of bender: the truthbender

Kumotogi

I hate hearing the drinking man, its death to my ears

CaeFlow

Idk why but I feel like the Man in Black might secretly be like a revenant or something of Sir Curran? The accents are completely different but I just get this f e e l i n g about it.

Felix

unfair how funny taylor is

SHOWING NULL

LelliePunk

Seeing this after being fully caught up makes my heart huuuuurt

Drew Faber

Hey so I’m listening again from the beginning and the man in black is one of the dopest characters in all of fiction. just absolutely thrilling to listen to. there’s something so unknowable and eldritch about him. coolest shit in the world

Nym

Ooooo. NICE! But does that mean they wield it, or pervert it? 🧐 (like, “bending the truth”)

Nym

Y’all what in the HEY was the background noise in 15:04 to 15:15?

Nym

Yes. Three Ws is TOO MANY! Except for our trio 😊

Nym

Well, it’s a BLeeM campaign, so time fuckery and anti-capitalism are very likely! 😂

J. Gro

When the man in black offered a question, I immediately hoped Eursulon would ask his true name!! Would he have even given it??
