Always fun being the first to comment

Kalunyx

Crackle crackle y'all!! 💜I'm so excited for this one

C. A. Whyse

I'll have to listen when I get off work in 20 minutes. Keep the pod warm for me, Beyonders.

Ryan L.

Yay😎🥳🥳🥳

Devon

Suvi go back to the red! Healing and returning to our inner child later in life is really popular rn

Sven the Scribe

Pertaining to aunts is Materteral. Almost never used but it does exist!

WWMSudoku

Ahoo hoo I think it's just that mirrors have stopped reflecting the inside of the citadel and started reflecting the rest of the world instead

Ch1pp3dH34rt

Ahoo-hoo Good Morning Y’all

Nolf!

Ahoo hoo. Gew morning

WWMSudoku

Also anyone purchasing food chain magnate just kinda gets done like that

Ch1pp3dH34rt

Gilled Mage, Gilded Mage, Guild Mage 🫨

James

Ohhhhh Aabria mentioning that associating Suvi with mirrors is like a called shot bc she'll be holding up a mirror to all of the Citadel... it's like the in-universe called shot of the namecloak. Like how they mentioned that picking a namecloak that represents a lot of things or can mean a lot of things is basically saying "this is how great a wizard I will be" (bad paraphrase on my part).

Clockworkjohnny

I'm trying to sneak into twelve Brooks but the clap of my ass cheeks...

Inverse Switch

The back-at-camp energy is infectious! Love to hear it ☺️

WWMSudoku

Horner Corner Update was insane man

CallSomeone

Wubbawubbawubbawubbawubba

Kevin Rice

Ahoo hoo! Crackle cracker!

Muadwho

Sand: Destruction Glass: Creation Mirror: Observation (Reflection/Transcendence) 🤔 Pulling the threads...

Jessica Conaway

Honestly, in the episode listening to the megalodon bit, my mind accepted it and just made the river like the size of the Mississippi. I was like 'oh this river is huge!' 😆

Sofia marcelli

Did not realize how much like… anticipation comes from submitting a question for the Fireside, even if the question doesn’t get answered. Like. You put a crazy amount of effort into listening for your submission the episode! That’s wild!

C. A. Whyse

Brennan talking about how rattled bad people become when faced with vulnerability-- I just think of the banquet scene from season 2 of Carnival Row.

Bea W

💛

Gellie Doerr

I need a sticker that says "Normal people are the weirdest people in the world."

Fen Petrichor

Ahoo hoo! I started my own version of a children's campaign 2 years ago with a month timeline for the kids to get out of Feywild-meets-Woods Between the Worlds, and we're barely halfway there so it does not surprise me that Ame has quite a bit of time left!

Jack Jones

Checking out the fireside for insight on character motivation?🚫 Checking out the fireside to see who's got the best ass?✅️

Jack Jones

Its great we get both haha yall are great

Rachael

I needed this joyful episode today. Thank you so much for the stories you tell and the love and laughter you share. You are all truly a brilliant shining light in these horribly dark times. ❤️

Carrie Mook Bridgman

"Task is little Suvi--a thing built for a specific purpose, and then a kindness is showed, and then you get to be different because of it.... Suvi exists as a reckoning for the Citadel, so we're gonna mirror-code her and be like, cool, I'm gonna hold up a mirror to your whole shit." Aabria blowing everyone's mind and making Erika cry in real time. Again.

Noliam Samoht

For thoes who were curious. The largest great white reliably recorded was 19.7ft twice that is 39.4ft, the size I imagine Mr.Mulligan was thinking of, which is huge but not the 60-70 estimated feet of the Megalodon

Urban Soul

Idk if that was just a bit but hearing Aabria and Erika briefly dated just had me cock an eyebrow in curiosity and just think "...nice". Still, not my business either way.

Fen Petrichor

also, big ups to Aabria calling out that Suvi is still not done from the Citadel, because that's not how this shit workssss

GC

3 minutes in and I have fully lost it at "4AD hair" [edit: nope, see below] Suvi listening to the Hope Blister on cassette, trying to get Ame into Throwing Muses, giving Eursulon a Dead Can Dance mixtape

Antonia Canosa

We’ll bring the tower down and when we do you’ll be able to see it from the front

Erik Hanson

The group saying that it just feels so good to know that Keen is dead, the following lyrics sprang to mind from an old Mr. Rogers' classic: It's such a good feeling, To know that Keen's dead! It's such a happy feeling, For "Off with his head!" And when you wake up, ready to say: "I'm glad that Keen can't hurt me today!" It's such a good feeling, A very good feeling, The feeling you know Keen is dead!

CommodoreBlue

They’re at camp?!?! Space campaign inbound!!!!

Mack Whaley

Camp camp camp!!! Love these beautiful minds! I hope camp is so perfect!!!

Cait Batchelor

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BRENNAN AND IZZY - also please i beg of you, treason grandma full story

Connor Sponsler

Half expected the "Nothing" episode on April 1st to be just that

katnotkitty

Inside of us are two wolves. One of them is Frank/Brennan. The other is Spencer/Aabria.

Annie A

I’ve been so anxious about the Indri gift I know it’s gonna fuck something up

Bex

A TEACUP MEG I'M CRYYYYYYING

Wren

Ah, I'm pretty sure it was "4 A/B hair." It's referring to textures of hair, with 4-type hair being more coiled/kinky than white people's hair (usually) is. I'd suggest looking up the hair typing system for more details!

GC

Oh no! I was going off the visual impression of tinsel in hair, which got my brain into Vaughan Oliver and Ivo Watts-Russell, and from there I was lost in reverie. Listening again with the context you provided I hear it correctly now. Thanks for educating! :)

Jaxson Denton

I like to imagine our very gruff and grumpy shapeshifter turning into the most petite and dainty Don we’ve ever seen

xatlern

The one and only time I played a full game of risk I was on track to come in third, but the person who was in second made the absolutely wild choice to take a bathroom break at a critical point in the game, and was then shocked that I'd made an alliance with the person who was leading, so I ended up in second 😂😂😂

GC

Not far in but I think this is one of the best-ever Firesides! The sand => glass => mirror stuff is blowing my mind. It has the same dizzy feeling for me as the hyperoperations (addition is repeated succession [+1], multiplication is repeated addition, exponentiation is repeated multiplication, but you can keep going: tetration, pentation, 😱...) What's next after mirror? (shivering)

Trina

Cackling in my kitchen as I feed my cats and make my coffee is the best way to start today. Thank you all for being hilarious and brilliant and amazing!

Brandon Carbaugh

My favorite part of every collaborative storytelling endeavor is when you all look back together and realize that, because of how you structured scenes and cliffhangers around mornings and nights, you have accidentally truncated a crazy amount of events into like 2 months of time. I've had it happen in both D&D and writers' rooms. They even do it in the last season of Breaking Bad, where someone is like "Man, what a crazy year this has been Mr White," and as the viewer you're like WHAT?!

Just a Fox

Absolutely same. I was like "Nice... I could see that" and then my train of thought was immediately derailed by the Erika/Hayden conversation 😂

Just a Fox

Not the part about Task being little Suvi making me cry in public 😭😭

Just a Fox

That sounds like an awesome campaign 🥹

Fen Petrichor

Ty! I told them the children's adventure was an inspo, and then immediately dumped them in mortal danger lmao

Ty6260

March Ass-ness is crazy

Carrie Mook Bridgman

My nerd problem with the shapeshifters' forms is having ocean creatures in a river. Alligators, sure. Sharks and squid would need saltwater, yes?

Jessica Conaway

There are some Sharks that have survived in the Mississippi actually but yeah they would need salt water for the most part. Though Jorin (sp?😬) did give Suvi gills. So they could presumably change anything they needed to.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

I really appreciated Mr. Tint's discussion of Eursulon's state of mind. It makes sense. It also reminded me of the way Aabria describes Suvi's response to criticism: "Noted for future reference. Let's move." [Paraphrased.]

Carrie Mook Bridgman

I think "We used to date" referred to Erika and Hayden Tint, because it went straight into "rose-tinted glasses." It took me a couple of replays to figure out the bit, since Erika was talking to Aabria and we couldn't see if they gestured to Mr. Tint when they said "we."

Ko-Wahi Kit

So I hunted down where the fuck “Avuncular” comes from and it’s basically Latin for “Maternal Uncle.” TL:DR options at the bottom. Also I used google and Wiktionary for this and don’t know shit about Latin, so any “grammar” is purely vibes based. Enjoy!! Google says Maternal Aunt is “Matertera,” so I guess the corresponding word for Auntie shit is Matertercular? Materteral? Materterine? Materterous? Mah-Tear-Tar-us? That’s probably the easiest one to say (and kinda sounds like “Tartarus” which is fun) but the double ter-ter doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. :- / And we can’t shorten it because “Mater” is Mother. Now that being said after doing some digging “Aunt” is from the Latin word Ami (water), which linguists think turned to “Amma/amita” (wet nurse, paternal aunt), and then became “Aunte” in Middle English. So Amitular might also be a good option. Clearly we don’t care that avuncular refers only to maternal uncles so why not use the paternal aunt word? It’s also very fun to say! Ah-Mitt-Tu-Lar. A-Mitch-U-Lar. Ah-Mitt-Chu-Lar. But also avuncular has the word “unc” in it and modern English says FUCK YOU to grammar rules that make words hard to say, so I think we could also roll with Auntacular, though I personally don’t like it because it sounds too much like the modern word and half the fun of avuncular is that people don’t immediately clock the connection to uncles. It sounds lofty and obscure instead of the still very modern move of adding suffixes to words we use daily.

Ko-Wahi Kit

So TL:DR, my vote is for Amitular (Ah-Mitch-U-Lar). Other options are Materterine/Materteral/Materterous, or the very boring vanilla auntacular (booooo, save that one for the greeting cards).

Urban Soul

Ah. That would make sense too. I had just originally assumed that "rose-tinted" but was in reference to Aabria's glasses but I may have misunderstood. Good looking, fam.

Burke

Look mark and Gemma were in the elevator, not kissing won't make it go faster, I'm with Erika

GrumblyArcher

Last game of risk I played involved repeatedly taking and holding Mongolia with a huge ball of troops and utterly derailing the plans of everyone around me again and again with that simple strategy. I was also incredibly feverish at the time.

Alyssa

Aabria’s “I’m kicking him in the dick today, herewego!” made me wheeeeeeeze

Emily C

Not the wubba wubbas - desperately need fan art of the thumb in mouth, ass caked up, perhaps so desperately I will make a bad rendition myself (no promises)

Lorsnax

Yeah same, I was thinking they take the general form of a squid but change some organ structures around to work with the environment at hand. Do you think it's the mere intent to be in fresh water that makes it work or did they have to be wildlife zoologists first to figure out what adaptations to make? I guess it's a closer to wizard magic or closer to wild magic kind of situation.

Claire

Aabria, I have to disagree, what about avauntgarde?

Alex Willging

I hear one mention of Jane Schaffer essay paragraphs and my little literary nerd heart is *exploding*

Aubrey

yall posted this on Toshirô Mifune’s birthday 🙂‍↕️

The Witch of Wicked Gainz

My favorite mirrors were Galani’s in Port Talon! Seeing around corners! Teamwork! Redirection! It’s all there

Sil

Absolutely everybody in my life is going to be on Brennan's ass when I tack on a "if I'm going to be great at lying when the chips are down, I have to be lying for no reason, all the time. I need reps, I need LAPS" to my "a dishonest man you can trust to be dishonest" monologue 😂

Sil

I had no idea what this meant until I looked them up and realised "Oh this is just an analytical essay structure" 😂 I'd never heard them called that before

Sil

Thank you for your service 🙏🏻

irisilmaril

they actually are still taping Chapter 4 they said its REAL. long

Andi

Omg! My question was 1st in the ep!

Ician

The in-person energy was strong in this one; glad you all had fun at camp!

Cortney Rogers

Ame telling the lie of a frontline lover and Lemon Lady being like, bitch me too is wild. She even risked giving an innocent guard a head injury for the D.

mguin

Normal people are the weirdest people, truer words were never said the most bland dry-toast person you've met has done at least one unhinged thing that you wouldn't dream of them, guaranteed

Ina

I’m with the Chaos Reign Strategy! My big brother lost to my button mashing in Street Fighter, to his eternal rage.

Bog Station: Remembrance

Aabria’s character driven storytelling genius is so fucking good every time. That brain 🥵

Ryan Malony

I feel that that dnd timeline struggle. I've been running a game for more than 5 years and I've deliberately sped up time in places... We still haven't made it past month 6 c:

Sil

That guy at your bar straight up sounds like an Australian keeping livestock or pets safe on a qtr acre or larger 😂

Conor Steinke

Am I misremembering or do spirits just have great asses? The coal/forge dude in the ice castle, maybe the little river guy back in Toma. I feel like the players are demanding butt granularity in the worldbuilding. Because it's either that or I'm painting my own word pictures.

Ben Brownlee

Being at the fireside is the best way to spend $5.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

I am pretty sure I heard Taylor cackle again at that point. The wheeze is Brennan; the cackle is Taylor.

Zander Jenkins

Another bullshit episode without Dime Pimento

Iris

You know… with more time, I truly believe someone would have slipped up and said “Hidden Taint” instead of “Hayden Tint” and I think that’s beautiful ❤️

Troy Lowrance

Materteral is the aunt version of avuncular

Simon Mills

Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba Wubba 🍑

Entropy_Head

I love the discussion on Suvi’s new style n theme. It’s like she and Task are both products of the Citadel taking sand and making glass to create clarity, and using mirrors to create deeper complexity only to then create two beings so complex they can go off and find clarity for themselves

NevrMs

Wubbah wubbah wubbah

Hazel Rose

Best story ever told

Tralan

"If you need to be great at lying when the chips are down, you need to be lying all the time" Hell yeah, Garak

DaphneDawn

Pretty sure cackle and wheeze were bullies at my middle school

Faetale

Next episode crackle crackle Wubba Wubba buy the end of book 1 we are going to preforming full onomatopoeia I need 30 secs of just sound effects

TheWizardShrimp

Wouldn't it be fun if Brennan was making up audience questions so he can get more insight into the characters so that he can play with his chess piecea with more accurate cruelty

Ryan Leeson

Unrelated to this episode, I have tried time and time again to sing a bass cover for The Rain Road and can not get through it without crying.

samp

oh my god i thought suvi and silver had been dating for YEARS. thank y'all for clarifying this. i definitely tried to write a fic about them and spent several hours trying to figure out literally a single reason they would be attracted to one another's characters other than just sharing a dedication to the citadel

samp

also extremely relatable to hear aabria say "they're not people yet, they're these beautiful concepts" about relationships when you're young because that's EXACTLY how it is

samp

suvi and silver's relationship has been deeply relatable to me as someone whose last relationship was with a man i thought was the love of my life until he joined the US Navy and moved across the continent :')

Jazz

Fun shark facts Bull Sharks despite being saltwater sharks love to travel up freshwater rivers and when you hear about a freshwater shark attack (which is still rare, sharks don't like to attack people) it's usually them. They are also infamous for being considered the most "aggressive" and also trash eating (literally but also they seem to just eat almost anything which is probably related to the "aggression"). In my head he turned into a bull shark which would and could easily navigate the freshwater :)

Alyssia

March madness mentioned at the fireside my worlds are colliding :)

Ryan Leeson

Learned it on piano but I'm still crying. What a beautiful song Taylor and Brennan.

Bo0gie

I had a weird thought. What if a wizard wrote a different name down as if it was their own. Would you then think it was their true name

Samantha Goose

Listened while washing dishes before bed and when Aabria said “I just heard the Lemon Lady ovulate,” I let out a singular HA so loud that I’m afraid I woke up my partner upstairs and the newborn next door

Melina

Did you write your own notes for piano? If so,would you be wiling to share? I really wanted to learn it but I think Taylor only posted the choral arrangement and guitar notes and I am not capable of making a piano arrangement from that 🥲🥲

Iryn

I’m with you Erika: end of the world smooch is 💯 valid. There’s a difference between celebrating feeling being alive and chasing not being dead. There’s a spectrum between dreamer and soldier

Ryan Leeson

I don't know how to read it write music. 😂 I just sounded it out on the piano.

Peyton Rose

I imagine when they say it out loud or won't immediately change to the wizard () like it does for their real name

Bo0gie

I agree but you'd only be able to confirm that with other people who know the true name. Oh wait I was thinking in circles. I got it now. Thank you!!!

Emily C

"Hi, I'm Eioghorain, and I'm a shape shifter with a big ass" - Game Changer finale anyone?

Kristen

The last 5 minutes was worth at least a year’s worth of subscription.

Michael Munene

The hair question in this question totally has me imagining Suvi putting her hair in either tight brains, or dreds, as she enters her Mirror era.

Thomas

Tacitus mentioned!!! I’ve been waiting for this

Michael

I swear I heard Brennan do his Tim Curry impression

Honey Hibiscus

Does anyone else picture Pedro Pascal as Yoren?

Noah Sam

I do know and it fits

Noah Sam

Looking forward to meeting Schäfer Paragraph at the next Fireside

Noah Sam

So basically a Microlodon

Noah Sam

In my mind, if they can shapeshift, they surely must be able to overcome that limitation by adjusting their gills.

Noah Sam

Grilled Mage (when hit by a fireball)

The Pompous Peasant

Can someone tell me why the empire and the gauthmi are at war?

J cryingcrow

i've never laughed out loud at a podcast before and i'm so glad it was today. oh god, the don.... cramming himself down a tiny river bed.... i hope this stays with me for a long time, absoloutely cracked me up

Emily C

Cackle and Wheeze were obviously rejected names for Hades' sidekicks in Disney's Hercules

Gabe

*spoilers for game changer* I have no where else to put this LUO ACTUALLY HAS A JETSKI!!!! I thought it was a bit this whole time!

David Ritchey

Are there no more one shot episodes like county affair?

TWSanto

Apparently the King of Night has been a secret shadow king of Gauthmi for a long long time and he lost the last war against the Empire and Citadel. The guy seems to hate humans a lot too.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

"You need reps, you need laps." And I would not have thought of the Garak reference, but yes.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

From Suvi's opening scene in the campaign, and again in Arc 2, I'm pretty sure they were at least heavily crushing for years--which I guess is what the Citadel encourages, enjoying each other's hot bodies and sharp minds while you can, with no commitment expected. They've been in love, defined as wanting to plan a life with this person, for a couple of months. And they used to be entirely compatible: dedicated, ambitious, and mutually admiring rather than competitive because their gifts were complementary. I soured on Silver when the first words out of his mouth the night after we-did-it-we're-probably-going-to-live-long-enough-to-even-think-long-term sex were "We owe everything to the Citadel." Dedication is one thing, but that's extreme.

Mo Ryan

I texted my friend last night that I heard about that Jetski MONTHS ago but I didn't know if it was real or not.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

As far as we know, the King of Night is involved with Rhuv, not Gauthmai. And I don't think we know why any of them are at war except that they seem to be the big three superpowers and haven't yet figured out Mutually Assured Destruction (though they're in an arms race for sure).

Carrie Mook Bridgman

There are three Umora one-shots: Twelve Brooks, The Clearing, and The Matsui. There's also Space Cram.

Darcy Barlow

Y’all, the fact that the jet skis from the Panama arc were for a Game Changer prompt has me *shook*

AmorettiFace

Is there a new episode coming out today?

Joanna S.

They haven’t yet said there’s gonna be a delay, so I’m hopeful.

Jason Leigh

Do you have the timestamp this is mentioned? and also the game changer/make some noise episode?

Rowan

Praying rn

Chris Kagamine

As the type of AuDHD person who, when I have plans, can't really function until the plans: boy do I hope either the episode or a delay notice come soon. I'd love to be able to fully function as a human being

Randolph McGurrin

The Game Changer was the mistake recent episode, Season 7 episode 1. I don't have the time stamp from the fireside sadly.

Judy Guerra

Glad I’m not the only one.

Quinn

It just dropped!

elijah

It’s here

Yarl

Mr. Soup! Great pull, he def has a juicy donk

Lexie Jones

I love the Irony of Suvi getting gills like Morrow.

mariocartdui

SEVERANCE SPOILERS I agree that making out in an elevator before you know you’re home safe is naive; but it made perfect sense in the scene- outie mark doesn’t know for certain if he’ll ever see Gemma again- he has to trust innie mark to get them both out of the facility (which, spoiler, innie mark doesn’t do, innie mark stays inside) so for mark to spend the last seconds of his consciousness kissing Gemma is, I think, exactly right, that’s what someone would do if they didn’t know that they’d ever have another second with the person they love

Kimberly W

Re: what brennan was saying about how moments of vulnerability lead to an empathetic reaction and connection in some people and a negative reaction in others -- I've been thinking a lot recently about how so many people, especially in the US right now, are flocking and clinging to conspiracy theories or strongman bullies or religion or social hierarchies or whatever their thing is because they feel scared and out of control and they need the comfort of believing that bad things happen for a reason. That the world isn't full of unfathomable chaos and uncertainty, theres a group pulling the strings, its a secret hidden plan. this guy clearly has shit figured out because he acts so confident, so I should probably follow him and he will help me feel in control of my life. Some people recoil from vulnerability because they're scared of it in themselves, they cannot cope with the idea that there is no inherent meaning or virtue in suffering. no one has life figured out, we're all trying to figure it out together, were on a rock hurtling through space and we're each responsible for the things we do, good and terrible. Suvi and her uncle bond over her vulnerability because they recognize themselves in the other. Some people don't seem to have that capacity, but I wonder if the world might be better if more people did...

Kimberly W

Shout out to the recent Contrapoints FILM (admiringly) on conspiracies, really changed my brain chemistry with that one

Zoop

On the topic of taking out a skilled & analytical competitor by playing as an unpredictable/non rational actor, I often say that “beginners luck” in poker is actually just a function of the new player not knowing wtf is in their hand and thus innately being unreadable. I’ve always found it rather funny that in most variations of poker, The worst thing a new player can do in a game against an experienced player, is actually learn the rules because not only do the more ways you understand the game works, open more avenue for your opponent to manipulate you, you also become instantly susceptible to other players perceptive abilities the moment you understand what makes a good hand. And keeping in line with the poker comparison/metaphor, Yorins philosophy seems to be, along the lines of “the only way to beat a master poker player is to refuse to learn how to play and go off vibes alone”

Niyela

Fun fact about mirrors for the wizard Sky. The black spots old/vintage mirrors get is a process called "weathering", also "mirror rot" or "desilvering". Even "foxing" is a word for it ;) never know when it can be useful!!

Fraud_Monet

"... and when I do you'll be able to see it from the front." Fucking. Bananas.

LSky670

I felt that but about the in-world time. My home game has been going for over a year, and 3 days have passed in the story.

rosa bronks

I beat my sister at Love letter by going full vibes based. I'm making decisions that did not make sense from a strategic point of view. She had a full Suvi in Port talon style crash out and I laugh so hard I nearly threw up. She was 33. She has two children.

Saoirse

Okay apparently Schaffer Paragraphs are a thing, and it is coincidence the next guest star on fireside is Mr. Shafir Paragraphs XD

Emily Kadish

My family has proposed "tantitular" as a counterpart to "avuncular."

Nym

Oh, Erika and Aabria used to date, nbd. … is what the reaction should be, but I’m a Tumblr girlie so— EXCUSE ME, WHAT?

Nym

I think Erika had a narrative orgasm around 50:08. Bless Eiorghan and his any-size-he-wants ass.
