Medium and genre agnostic. So goddamn good. Seeing Eursulon find his way to his own sense of self and in it his role in shaping the worlds he belongs to is a joy. The Man in Black was the only choice as witness to that culmination. ♥️

I won’t pretend like I expect anyone to pull off the depth of world building and character development at their level, myself included for sure, but the narrative richness and collaborative storytelling? Hell yeah. My level of frustration with fellow players’ “I give the help action” with no explanation or even consideration of feasibility has never been higher.

Maybe listen with him? My middle daughter was convinced I would love it but from her initial descriptions it didn’t seem like anything I’d enjoy (never listend to actual play before). She kept offering about once a week to listen to the first episode with me. Oldest daughter thought I'd love it too. I have had a number of experiences where they really want me to try something that I can't imagine I'd enjoy -- and they were right. One day she called me and said she had been listening and started crying so hard she had to pull over. So I started listening, even joined the Patreon, I so love the improvisational story telling! I found out later the part where she had to pull over crying was end of the last episode of arc2, episode 23, "On Your Way" when Eursulon met his sister Kalaya and her family. Listening to the first couple episodes with middle daughter was quite helpful because I could pause and ask questions. I love learning new things from my daughters, they are smart, kind, and usually right!

Ame remains such an inspirational character to me (and talking about grounding the lightening bolt is what reminded me) in that she is SO endearingly and wonderfully Human+. Full of life including it's anxieties and hesitations. Ame says Witch of the Worlds Heart but I just got here?! The journey of someone fully coming into and redefining a powerful station from being just a little child to disregarding a powerful mages lightening...it's so everything to me. Ame is such a deeply relatable character (not that the others aren't) to see her become so empowered that idk it's like a direct balm to imposter syndrome if that makes sense. Also Keene(sp?) absolutely knew that if he ever came at Ame directly she would beat his ass into the ground (hence the trap and taking fox hostage). Anyway yeah I just think Ame is my personal balm to imposter syndrome cuz she's doing it whether she thinks she was ready or worthy she's doing it and she's gonna be so powerful (make all the other witches go oh...right that IS a powerful station...).

I would also argue this exact moral quandry has already been presented (at least in part). The Casov collection is an institution that permanently holds Spirits who ostensibly lack the capacity for reform. But their quality of life is objectively cruel as evidenced by Pomoroy's sadistic allegiance to the Collection's work. If Eursolon were to revisit the Citadel, I don't believe the supposed threat these Spirits hold supersedes the fact that the only known crime they all share is that they were found by humans who saw fit to chain them "You get what you get". The fact that a system has normalized this carceral violence to a "deserving" group of people does not negate an alternative point of justice that exists beyond prisons. Ironically Eursolon acting out of obligation would be PRECISELY what would turn him into an oathbreaker.

So many lines from this episode grabbed my heart and squeezed; “the better world is on its way” stands out even so. I just wanted to say that we live in a world where folks who care about the vulnerable, who check the “spare money” budget when a gofundme crosses their feed, or lay awake at night knowing their tax dollars are used for things that leave children wailing and in want in the rubble of their former cities, are made to feel insane constantly. I'd also encourage you to consider the other oaths a paladin can make. Swearing fealty to a realm or to the ancients can all be twisted in ways that call a paladin's morals into question. Another commenter brought this up, but a part of prison abolition's core concept is that punitive justice neither resolves the crime nor restores the victim or perpetrator. Freedom from cruelty (punishment) isn't the same as freedom from consequences. Hope this helps, and thanks for the comment!

Just finished Listening to the Children's Story with my GF, having started her with Misfits of Magic and then A County Affair. I love it with my whole heart and truly every episode leaves me in a state similar to what Aabria said of just dissociative contemplation and adoration. Why do you find this off putting? To me, it’s not a spoiler because it’s so vague. There are an infinite number of situations that would call for Suvi to trust and have it rewarded (surprisingly or not). It’s solidly in the category of foreshadowing. It creates a little sense of anticipation, wondering what it might be and knowing that we can only be making shots in the dark this far out. It gives a silhouette to one tiny piece of the looming tension of the next 7 episodes without any detail.

I think Ame's one for me was the nat 20 insight on Indri at the coven vote to kill her. Brennan admitted that he wasn't going to reveal Indris plan to reduce the coven till a later point. I think this insight leads to Ame stealing the wand, which is surely going to be big in the future.
