After episode 48, and our exit from the environs of Twelve Brooks, Brennan and Erika sat down to discuss Ame's innnncredible mid-scene level up and what's this? Spontaneously discover some new, secret BROOMLORE!?

Comments

Aesthetic Pest

BROOMLORE!?! In front of my salad?!?! SHOCKED AND HONORED

Blaize Gordon

Love you guys! Brennan I'm so glad I got your fix before it sold out this time, I love the story you all take us on and hope you have a fantastic day! Also first!!!!

Gabriel Madera

Monumental witch moment lore. Yes 🔥🔥🔥

Morgana Evenstar

Ain't Broomlore Bonecone the guy that plays Smaug?

Aesthetic Pest

Truly though— the technicalities of documenting metrics of experience and capacity for a breathing character is just making my neurospicy brain go BRrRrRrRrrRrRrRRrrr

Destiny

Revivify, HUGE ‼️

Adam Roy

"The Witches' Sabbath" by Spanish artist José María Rodríguez-Acosta, painted in 1898

danielle

Ame bone cone on a thurs??? hell yeah! love to see the witches going to their sabbath included, so ominous, so perfect

Qadr Sikiru

I really wanna see Ame use bestow curse

Stephane Bura

Brennan can cast Zone of Cool at will.

Henry Houston

I’m so excited to see the broom grow!

Amber Cekander

Emily C

We are so spoiled this week!!! Love it!!!

JoelleDFTBA

Gay groom! Gay broom! Gay broom! Pride vibes

Ellis

Thank you!

Felix Vance

Alright definitely wasn't planning to cry today about a little gay love story but here I am 😭

Jasmine A. Golphin

It's actually Witches Going to Their Sabbath (or Witches on the Sabbath) by Luis Ricardo Falero 1878

THEJordonBrown

Should we put our unasked for merch ideas in this thread?

Mac

i havent listened to this yet but trying to piece together the context based on both the comments and the random pic of a bunch of naked people in the description is hurting my brain lmao edit: nope, several people pointed it out, i'm just an idiot. now i get it

Ren, Artificer Ordinare

There was something really cool where during Ame’s escape scene from the episode, the setup and thought process being vocalized and the details being seen and put together, I thought to myself “Oh, this is the level up”. For me, it was satisfying to identify that mechanically this was going to be level up moment and then having my suspicion being confirmed by Brennan without being pulled put of the story’s moment. It was a masterclass in TTRPG play where we are being reminded there is D&D in the story, NOT story in the D&D. Absolute bravo, everyone.

Matthew

I don't mean to taint the lovely broom lore Erika and Brennan have spun for us, but allow me to send your Bone Cone to the Horner Corner with some IRL broom lore related to the art: Absorption of hallucinogens through contact with mucus membranes in the vulva and vagina is known to be a very efficient delivery vector and is a thing people have known about for a loooong time. I heard this first in an undergraduate anthropology course, but here's a slightly more reputable source than my dubious recollections: https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidkroll/2017/10/31/the-origin-of-witches-riding-broomsticks-drugs-from-nature-plus-shakespeare/

Zoop

Ahahaha not zone of truth-I know a looot of queer women (myself included) who def coulda benefited from that once or twice lol

Rain

YES, thanks. I'll go first. 😂 WBN: No comments for the hoodie pole tysm Me: UNINTERRUPTED GRAPHICS!!

Zoop

Damn Adam just got um actually’d. Is there a reason why the two might be confused? Like maybe José was heavily inspired by Luis

Daniel B

Well, crying at a bus stop listening to this. Honestly, thanks.

jbfcorreia

Yeaaaaaaaaaah gimme that sweet sweet BTS mechanics-become-roleplay content, married with nibbles of lgbt coming-of-age storyyyyy. The heart does grow giddy.

GC

Falero: Witches Going To Their Sabbath, an all-time banger

Lojaan

I would like a WBN/Ame/Fox themed"be kind/be cunning" sign to hang in my daughter's room. 🥰

GC

Transmucosal ergot?! (rushes off to start doom metal band)

Ryan L.

Yay, I need the BoneCone Baaad this week!

Emily C

great news! there is a wealth of fan art, notably id recommend Tumblr, and someone could make that for you! or you and your daughter could make it together!!! I just love making things

Jayfeather

how did we get lesbians from this. wicked

Auroracorealis

oh hey i have that painting in my room!

Natalia M

ERIKA YOU CANT JUST CASUALLY DROP BROOM LESBIANS ON US LIKE THIS

Zach K

I see you brennan sneaking in vultures from D20

Cameron Barrett

I'm sure someone will make this a thing on AO3

Cameron Barrett

Erika, pleas name the broom. I humbly submit: Wish Dancer

Sil

Me: "omg, yes please, queer longing backstory" *Brennan rewards storytelling* Me: *somehow still being sideswiped when this happens* ... *screams*

Ash Gill

This is now my favorite fantasy broom of any there have ever been.

Esther

awwww this was so heartwarming (which feels weird to say given the last few eps)

Brandon Carbaugh

There are like 300 other brooms in a five mile radius, but of course Ame gravitates to the gay one.

C. A. Whyse

The roleplaying sweetness being rewarded with mechanics... beautiful payoff!

Abigail Agnew

Ame got her ‘what’s up danger’ moment!!

Drew Faber

I’m literally in shambles over a broom, how could you do this to me

Hannah Flynn

I want expecting to see naked witches when I opened up this post but you know what, they're always welcome

Esther Bee

Hey! Same name! Nice to ‘meet’ another Esther out in the wild so to speak

Lynn O'Reilly

brb, gripping my desk and crying at work this morning listening to the queer longing zone of truth broom

Zach P.

I was expecting some fun crunchy mechanical stuff, which I did get, but then you went and punched me in the heart. How dare you!

Fishes

It's my fault for seeing spoilers about how heavy this gets, but it's nice to know that I should stop listening so I'm not sobbing when I get to the dentists office

Lauren

I love hearing RP without the sound design because it highlights everyone's immense talents: the cast's abilities to sink so deeply into character with nothing but what is in their minds, and the Fortunate Horse team's lift to bring what was understood to exist in that silence out to be heard by the rest of our ears. Everyone is MAGIC!

BunSum

What wood is the broom made out of? Lesbian Pine-ing

Sean Fett

Why am I crying!? Why are you always making me cry!!??

bluebluebutton

"Dance while you can. And say what is in your heart." Erika you beautiful heart wrencher, you can't keep getting away with this!

Boris Bokchoy

to anyone who’s reading this, Circe by Madeline Miller is a certified banger of a book about a witch. there’s nothing quite like it

Virtual Spaceman

Why is everyone so shocked I low key thought it was clear ame was into suvi

Lauren

word, i can be more specific: RP w/o scoring or atmospheric sound effects. speaks even more to yall's skills that i didn't notice those edits were done!

Auroracorealis

idk what i expected, cuz it *should* have been to cry, but here we are 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️😅💜

CoolioAsh

DONT DO THIS TO ME I CANT CRY IN SOME RANDOM BONE CONE ARE YOU KIDDING ME

Zanna

Yes! A great book. I enjoyed it so much, and the ending is absolutely beautiful!

Zanna

Sweep away those lies!

Puricodraws

Not me crying over a 19 minute bone cone! Also holy shit. Tattoo idea!

Witch of What Now

That's witches for ya. Can we just do a grammar about it - no, it's gotta be feelings. Okay. I gotta cast a fire spell, let me read the news and get mad real quick

Lux ❤︎

ERIKA GAVE US LESBIAN YEARNING BROOM LORE JUST IN TIME FOR PRIDE I CANNOT

Lux ❤︎

You can’t sweep who you really are under the rug!!!

Falka

Screaming, crying, throwing up etc

cowabungholio

this is how amesuvi can still win--

Zach P.

Lmao I love that

The Wizard Sparrow

Ooooo can’t wait for Ame to use zone of Truth🤗🔥❤️🦊

Matrix Hibiscus

Ok well... now I need more witchy time in The Fireside. I need to know evey objects' favorite memory please 🙏

Ariel

YOU! ERIKA ISHII WHEN I GET YOU! BRENNAN LEE MULLIGAN WHEN I FUCKING GET YOU!

Sealee

Love the Lore!! Off topic, but do you think that the pod would ever make/ release a sorcerer subclasses for the houses in gouthmy (sorry for butchering the name)

Megan

I love witch lore! I'm actually playing a witch in a campaign and our DM and I have been hm, ~discussing~ how specific spells work and it's been just *so* fun. Getting into the nitty gritty of it - good times. Which reminds me, when a witch makes a token and puts a spell into it, is the witch now down a spell slot until the token is used? Because that's my DM's opinion and I would just *love* some clarification. Y'all (and by y'all I mean all the writers and sound people and artists and also the players and DM) are amazing and I appreciate everything you doooooo!!

The Wizard Sparrow

Just realized today is Tuesday…new episode release and a 4 day work week 🔥🦊🧹

Benevolent Sea Star

Time for the regularly scheduled hour of work when I probably cry lol

Conan

Can I just say that I also love the idea of the broom symbolically sweeping away magic for Ame's "cunning" aspect

Nick Gosey

Cried during the main episode. Cried during the fireside. Cried during the level up. 😭

Cleaver

Love Ame holding the broom and thinking “dang, this thing’s chalk fulla tiny gay feelings, this is gonna make it so much easier to interrogate people.”

Rowan

My new favorite routine is going into the comments to see who else is foaming at the mouth for the new ep.

Jack

I know they mentioned taking a break after this arc, but I'm confused on when the arc will end. Like is Ame going to rescue Suvi still part of the arc or does the break start now?

Kit

"Everyone's crying listening to this bone cone. Bet I won't, though. I'm different" - Me, a clown, 19 minutes ago

Ellis

Ame is going after Suvi, i think. They said there was an episode this week in the fireside chat for last episode

Rowan

I just bet my kid’s college fund on this arc having a Sooby-Doo ending, with them pulling the mask off the Man in Black and it turning out to be Mr. Soup all along.

The Wizard Stoke

this is our punishment for getting mouthy the last few episode releases...

Austin

IIRC then there should be 6 more episodes left before the break.

Austin

I think I need to stop planning my day around having an episode to listen to after the last few weeks 😅

Austin

From my interpretation, Talisman's will remove a spell slot when you make a magic item. Token's however only require you to have an unexpended spell slot of the spell you're putting in the token, AND only require you to expend that spell slot if you fail the crafting check. So in no way should Tokens remove spell slots, but may require you to spend the slot if you failed the crafting check.

Jack

Oh hell yea we are guna eat

Thomas Nissen

They did put out a post on twitter and bluesky that it will be coming out today but later :-)

Chris Kagamine

you're a saint! Thanks for letting us know!

Madeline Salter

Plan your listen sesh for the day after!

Austin

Wouldn't work with my schedule unfortunately

Zoop

Hi y’all-I came to check in to get my little dose of dopamine from seeing all yall also excitedly awaiting the next episode-you did not disappoint and now I can continue my day so thank you

Emily C

If you're anxiously waiting, to tide you over, there is a new Adventuring Academy on Dropout with Brennan talking to Erika

Molly Sisson

Why did you tease me like this 😭

Trevor Sion

I’m teary during a level-up BTS?? You fuckers! ❤️🤘

RuviGaPo

No spoilers but (there actually is) . . . . . . . . . im glad i saved this for a week bc BY GOD i needed some levity after this last ep gd

Mal

Day two of asking for Taylor and Jared to be on the Fireside to be held accountable just like everybody else.

VixenFlame

YURI!!! LESBAINS!! YURI MY BELOVED!

Yarl

Not me crying while I stir my oatmeal this morning 🥹😭🧹

Aussie Griffin

It's moments like this that make us all envy this level of group cohesion. A.G.

Kimberly W

Brennan sounding especially gravelly in this bone cone, and I for one am here for it

Witch of the Whispered Word

*SPOILER FOR BOOK ENDING* Listening after the last ep, Erika’s decisions were so clutch. That is all.

The Wizard Salt

This podcast doesn’t give us what we want, it gives us what we NEED, which in this case is scullery maid yuri ig

Voidtopus

Oooh I love the thought of dispelling the magic after it’s been cast Wizards will always build great machines but even (and especially?) the most perfect machine would woe a humble pebble among its gears Maid yuri will stop the war
