As blood pools upon the thick pile of the Boddie Estate's imported rug collection, our players, and the game, are afoot. Bodies on the move in voluminous pants and long, dark secret hallways. Revelations and aspersions fill the air of the mansion like fingers between the keys of a grand piano, like a sky-darkening murmuration of starlings, as our heroes begin to uncover the culprit behind this murder most...fowl.

Plum studying at Howard is such a perfect little detail

Rin

And that's Spotify deleted, Pocket Casts isn't being shite, so I guess I use that now 🤷‍♂️

“I WISH I KNEW ABOUT BIRDS” new best BLeeM moment of all time

VforVenlee

When doing last names Nee is to denote maiden name so every time she says Betty Pink nee boddie my brain goes....his parents were related.... and that seems right...oldmoney

GrumblyArcher

Great episode... right up until I remembered you guys are using Artlist.io for this story. I really hope you stop for the next batch of episodes because I really don't want my money going to a company so intent on boosting AI.

Samantha Shepherd

‘AARGH I WISH I KNEW ABOUT BIRDS’ ‘You’re not supposed to say that in front of them, we all agreed’ So so so so good

Shannon Small

Yessss I love more info and more complications - what a good episode! I am so beyond curious if yall are playing the game with the normal base information so each of the players are going into this with some understanding of what Didn’t Happen or not. Or is this all predicated on only Erika knows what happened and everything else is being discovered via the roleplay?

embraceweird

Brennan is never beating the bird fact allegations 😂😂

Shannon Brooks

The bit about the piano is just *chef’s kiss*!!!! Waiting in desperate anticipation for the next episode!!!

Amaya

Ummm, I feel like I distinctly recall Suzie saying she played the jazz pieces from memory 👀 The name of the song she played is "whatever the sheet music says" is beautifully suspicious I love it

Charlie

I recognized Puzzle Wording™ the moment Erika read the rhino inscription and had to pause the episode to solve the puzzle before I heard the answer. That was so clever and made me so insanely happy to get right (and then listen to Brennan go through the exact same mental process I did)

Fxd Gear Queer

I also stumbled over that. Nbd, was just an interesting note

Fxd Gear Queer

So all 3 NPCs killed him separately?

robo

I think Taylor had a lot of fun scoring this one!

American_Butter

Great episode. Just a little confused why they’re so concerned about calling the cops. The ownership & consumption of booze was not illegal it was the buying, selling, & manufacturing. Plus cops especially back then were really easy to bribe by rich socialites.

Alex Willging

This is great! I wish I didn't feel irritated that it should be "Betty Boddy, nee Pink" since she married Boddy's father (patrilineal surnames and all that!).

Jill K.

Because the plot demands that they investigate for themselves

Jill K.

Theory: Peacock poisoned him, Mustard smashed him with the candlestick, and Scarlet shot him

Matty Z Naps

I’m very proud of myself for figuring out the piano based on Scarlet’s comments. When she kept asking if people liked her playing I was like she wasn’t playing it was she…

mumbo

“Hate the Player” What a title. The sleuths are so good on picking up on every little detail that I almost feel bad for Erica, keeping them in the dark is no easy task!

An Anxious Ghost

Is anyone else getting a vibe that maybe Boddie set this up? What if this is a full Of Mice and Murder twist?

GC

Enjoyed the first episode a lot, but after finishing this one I am *all aboard.* The storytelling and performance instincts are just SO GOOD by this point--I'm pretty sure that Erika could DM a great few sessions of Chutes and Ladders with this crew.

GC

I haaaaaate "AI" and will dance on the ashes of the VC money it burned when it collapses as a sector, lord may it be soon, but (personally) how I feel about WBN using Artlist.io depends heavily on how much money they're giving it and which division it's going to. It's hard to know from the credit. There might have been a previously purchased human-made background track over at Fortunate Horse that fit something perfectly. If they're drawing on the generative features they offer (which I really doubt) or making significant ongoing purchases (more likely?) then I totally agree that WBN should reconsider for future seasons.

GC

I kept wanting someone to ask if she is yoked enough to move a body (which I'm guessing she is, whether or not she did murders)

Nym

Absolutely yes. However, I’m confused about whether that’s an option in the game mechanics. I don’t think there’s a suicide option in Clue? But, assuming we’re NOT constricted by mechanics, then yes I think Boddie was somehow involved in orchestrating this, though perhaps didn’t intend to die. We could have a Gosford Park situation as well.

Viola

Loving the jazz!! So mysterious! So 20s! Jazz age baby!

Nym

Question for next fireside: how much did it hurt Brennan to pretend he doesn’t know bird facts or what ebullient means? 🤣

mayapapaya

The number of times I get Glass Onion vibes for this campaign with it only being episode 2… Boddie is OFFICIALLY Edward Norton as of 43:27 talking about puns over cyphers

GrumblyArcher

I do doubt that the WBN crew is actively using the generative stuff but I don't think that really matters. AI companies are desperate to pump resources into their machines so in my mind, any money going to them is too much money.

pilby

“Last time, on CLUE…” 😭

Tijay Arnie

Also they're the hangers on of the rich socialite, not the rich socialite themselves. Also, Also its about the court of public opinion, it's 2 black folk, a Chinese woman, a half Indian woman and a man who's vocally anti war, in 1928, like to their peers it's not gonna look good

American_Butter

Fair enough still is strange too me who much they focus on the liquor tho probably cause I’ve been watching boardwalk empire & know the law was hilarious unenforced.

Bingus2277

They aren't concerned about the actual legal repercussions, but the social ones. They are all well to do socialites, and the press at that time would have ate a story like this UP

An Anxious Ghost

There is also a chance (if we ignore the rules of Clue itself) that while everyone was told the staff were all sent home and they are alone, that there is actually another person in the house they are unaware of. Part of my suspicion that Boddie might be behind it is how little blood there was. They have yet to find the place he was killed. What if that isn’t Boddie, but rather a cadaver? Could he have faked his death?

SmileyGuy

This is awesome! I imagine people have done this kind of thing before but Erika has sparked some fun board game rpg ideas in my head. Maybe her next one they’ll all be kids in the “Sweets Sovereignty” or high rollers buying up spaces in “Properties.”

Peter Ellis

Let's talk about the Books in the Library. "The Old Man and the Sea" by Hemingway was published in 1952. The period appropriate Hemingway novel would have been "The Sun Also Rises" published in 1926. Some other appropriate books: "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, published 1925; "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd'' by Agatha Christie 1926; "Leave It to Psmith" by P. G. Wodehouse 1923; and especially for Claw, "The Boston Cooking-School Cookbook" by Fannie Farmer 1896. What other books might have been in the library?

Liuba M

I love this! I am not familiar with Clue, so for me it’s simply like listening to a dramatisation of some turn of the century murder mystery novel. Reminds me of watching Agatha Christie's Poirot as a kid :)

Jordan Arvie

Getting to solve the murder along with the cast with Erika's beautifully sprinkled hints is so much fun! Picking up on the piano details was very satisfying. Shout out Aabriya and Lou for the "you're not supposed to say that in front of them, we all agreed" moment, sent me cackling, great music and sound editing too!

Rachel

The bird facts. Diabolical

Miyaa

“The Moon and Sixpence Novel” by William Somerset Maugham which is considered a rare book now. I bet Boddy had first editions of all these novels. Published in 1919.

Chloe Scott

I ship Cass and Claw and I’m incapable of being normal about it

Alyssa

The hunting crows on Long Island bit has added many new phrases (with only the specific intonations used) to my brain 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ Brennan: “what the fuck are you TALking about” and “oh yeah, we were in th…e HAMPtons” Aabria: “this is why I don’t trust white men! Are you just gonna go shoot normal birds?” and “THANK YOU!” Lou: “at least be like the kings of Europe” and “yeah that sounds about right”

The Wizard Subjudice

I've got it. Clearly Thatsa heard an inkling of his old jockey's name all the way from Sedona. The thunder was him running. Of course the horse missed his shot because where those poseable be?

Ewizabeth Herd

I wish I knew about birds!!” from BLeeM! 😂

Emily C

I don't trust anyone in this house including our PCs - what's up with the spoon? what is really written in the contract Rutherford didn't read before signing? did claw smash the model when she said she did or a different time? how would no one hear that? If Claw knew where her bag was the whole time why sneak around it? Also, did the three PCs disclose the first secret doorway they found or did the other people just witness them bursting out of the kitchen when they were supposed to be in the study???

Emily C

Also due to so much suspicion, some thoughts - Acting drunk is not too difficult, just because most of the flask is gone doesn't mean Peacock drank it -If all the PCs were together in the lounge, but Boddie was killed earlier or slower (poison), they don't have an alibi for an earlier time -The hallways and ballroom have hard floors, if the murderer had been running etc it would have been heard, no shoes??

Raven Sand

You mean to tell me that Boddie's library looks straight out of a Bass Pro store?

Gareth Varbel

Thank you so much for including one of the best inventions in the 20s! the player piano was a family heirloom of mine and the "it sounds clunky" hint gave me a tingling sense of nostalgia as I remember from deep in the chazm of my memory my grandmother pulling the exact same trick on me as a kid! A single tear formed at that memory and was immediately interrupted my the hilarity of the PCs. Truly thank you.

Dezzi

Aabria and Lou killing me with the one-two punch of "We all know each other"/"You're not supposed to say that in front of them, we all agreed!!" Is so fucking funny. I'm using that!!!!!!

Ryan McHugh

Been a while since I’ve said it, love you all, you’re a squad of my favorite creators on the planet. Just needs to be periodically said.

Vice Versailles

I just wanna say that Hint is so tense and the mystery is very engaging.

Justin

"Remember, we never seperated" feels like it's the entire vibe. I think Claw was going around feigning looking for her bag so she could aquire a weapon. Whether for protec or attac I dont know

The Wizard Subjudice

The terribly cynical part of my brain thinks it would be really funny for three POC and a white man with Irish heritage to play Catan, in the same way I deeply enjoyed the fact that the very white man in the 1920s ran TOWARDS gunfire. For something cuter and less on the nose (kinda...), RPG Everdell?
