Wars and rumors of wars. Thrilling new weapons to titillate the thanatos urge of even the most inured imperial citizen. Heroes-to-be assemble and depart. While the Citadel mobilizes for battle, the gang hits the books. Names ancient and new swim to the sun dappled surface of understanding, the grand picture ever clearer. Careful though: the books do, occasionally, hit back.

Only fifteen minutes in and already so damn good!

mahudude

About to stay up until 4am listening to this hahahahafuck

Bryan Holt

If names are so important as Brennan is wants to remind us, why are the Galthamedian sorcerers and not wizards?

Bryan Holt

What does this world feel in the way of sorcerers? How would the citadel feel about people that can just cast magic? Innately?

Aesthetic Pest

“If wizards had been meant to move, they would have been born with uhauls!” THATS how we KNOW Suvi ain’t that sapphic 😂😂😂

Dream Wizard Kyle Arca

Erika making the Fox learn to read??? Grandma Ava would not approve! 😜

Monica Briggs

I almost choked at "starter tower"

Witch of the widening horizons

I now want a pet ink imp 😂. Preferably one that will keep notes on behalf of my forgetful menopausal brain and give me reminders in a weary yet wittily sarcastic and patronising manner… oh wait I have my son who does that already 😂. Another superb episode with a tantalising ending. This is my favourite story telling crew thank you for brightening my day. 😁😁😁

QuantumLeeP

Wonderful as usual, but Lou was right, these cliffhangers are the definition of rude, Brennan Lee Mulligan! Much love and, as always, looking forward to the next episode!

Heliks

Don't worry Erika I caught your stance on the Aerith/Aeris debate, I also played FF7 in high school :P

Jack Jones

My thoughts are swirling around bloodlines now that we have made the connection that Eoighorain is perhaps the son of a spirit. It would make sense for that wild magic to be in his blood as a sorcerer!

Jack Jones

I'm still obsessed with the Tamori those 9th level spells maan holy moly "Names, we wont live long enough to need one." and also the snide remark of "wonders never cease at the citadel" ugh so good gang loving the arc so far.

Alsritt

The aerith/aeris joke... Dear God I love this show

Magerdamage

Wiziness is now going to be a word in my campaign

Magerdamage

The cackle I cackled reading this scared my cat

Raquel Blacken

"SH*T A$$!" I've Laughed so hard that I hiccuped.

Magerdamage

Honestly this is why he's trapped in that rope cage in Panama. He's getting back out of the world the amount of rude he's putting in.

Izer

What would the PR campaign for war Tamori exactly be for the Empire? Or is there an even deeper value still, to a thing being Nameless?

Wren

I love Brennan and Erika playing little animals that desperately do not want to read lmao

R. Shawn Abrahams

As a Botanist who loves imagining themselves as a Wizard, I am so wounded, lmao!

Magnolia Eve

I love yall for posting so early in the day

Faith Price

Leaving us on that cliffhanger until January 2nd!! Mulligan!!!!

Abigail Waldron

Felt a lot of lil hints at Burrows End here, with learn read and the name Kieran

Alyssa

That poem at the end 🥺🥺🥺 immediately written down and tacked above my desk

RNietzsche

Saunter gives us another interesting insight into the power structures of the citadel. He's a full wizard for decades and can "maybe fly" but Guildmage Morrow washed out? Not much of a meritocracy there...

Lydia Castro

I love Steel’s husband so much 😭

Prof_Bahamut

Brb now making an ink based pet Druid class. Correction: One for every magical class.

Jennifer Sieben

My mind clocked that Sword in the Stone reference and conjured an image of the scene before I even realised what movie it was from. Loving all the fun sleuthing through books this episode!

Prof_Bahamut

The imps lying so quickly and assuredly has me dying 🤣🤣🤣

Ashley Fryer

That little aside moment about Suvi being trusted to make her mark in her own way and on her own time simultaneously healed and broke something in me 😭💔

ngaire

glad to hear in the credits more people involved in post-production!

CaptLizianthus

Aabria consistently asks the best questions, the one at the end immediately reminded me of “what is the lie that this world believes?” Just impeccable.

Freddie Meraw

What does the Tomori say to Suvi after Silver walks away?? The closest guess I have is “nice lil smooch” and that feels wildly incorrect but my Audio Processing Disorder CAN NOT

Raina

this is exactly what i came to comment lmao!! patiently waiting for the transcript haha

Foxglove_Dreams

YES WELCOME JARED!! So much excellent sound happening on this exquisite podcast!

Schwa

The (eventual) campaign guide for this setting is going to be so JUICY.

Sil

The Fox & Ame's cackle at the idea of playing in raw magic is the exact sound I made when I heard Eoighorain's name spelled out loud for the first time having read the transcripts 😏 with my basic beginner's knowledge of the Ogham, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LIKE THIS FECKSHITE

Sil

Have you looked into the Strixhaven campaign book? The inklings of Silverquill? But I also like the idea of different inklings depending on what kind of spell they were the residue from.

Brayden H

I for one adore Droopy the Imp

the wizard subpar

I really hope we see ghost and flicker again next episode

the wizard subpar

I feel like eoighorain might be a druid because Brennan did say there was a possibility he saw one and druids can become animals they've seen before and it would explain why doing damage to a shape shifter isn't the best move

Paletuvier

As a person who works in a public library, the whole bit about how the Citadel's library system includes wizards just hoarding stuff in their towers indefinitely will haunt me forever. There are so many possible downriver issues with that. You just KNOW that they've had to put so much magical safety on their circulation data to prevent non-stop wizard vs wizard heists.

Katrina Forsyth

I know the full transcripts take time, since they’re done well. But would it be possible to make mini versions specifically for voices with effects? The fire spell has a super amazing voice, and it’s mostly understandable. It’s just some parts, when combined with my auditory processing issues, I can’t puzzle out.

The Quiet Footpath

The new Temori (sp?) are one of my favorite things about the episodes. The conversations with them and the observations about them are so intriguing. The point about them laughing in their own groups feels like gallows humor and a sense of brotherhood of those that fully expect to check out soon. The personality traits shown in the convos give so much in so few words. We need so much more on them and I hope we see some sort of evolution of their story in the future.

The Quiet Footpath

A playable race is likely too much of an ask, but one can hope...

Dukinator

omg the aeris aerith killed me erika

Val

PC temoré that goes about adventuring in search of a name with one lvl 9 spell slot that hangs over their head forever at the ready

Rafael C

Man, this episode was exquisite. I really hope Brennan understands the unparalleled gift to existence that he is. (Unrelated but I've been ecstatic these past few days cause I've got two, maybe three friends of mine into Dimension 20, and they Get It.) I'm so glad the plot continues to thicken, and that (of course) y'all wouldn't let the Citadel arc pass by without knocking it out of the park!! Thanks for another great 'sode, buds!

Nessa_Vives

cyril is just brennan's way of being able to have his own Tolkien poems in this campaign

Brandon Carbaugh

I imagine if you want a specific book in the Citadel, the library has a whole investigations team with detectives and shit. That's the wizard version of a kidnapping division. Like "Alright people, we just passed the return deadline, and we all know these first 48 are the most important!"

Paletuvier

Omg totally. Locate Object is definitely a pre-requisite for all library staff, but I'd also bet they have a big enough budget to have some high-level conjurers prepare a bunch of Drawmij's Instant Summons sapphires for the rare/precious books in the collection!

Stefanucci Mozzarella

… now gotta wait another month. 😂😂 Congratulations, you have me/us so excited to hear your story, guys! How much work is it to set up a show? Are there communications before the sesh? Questions that evoke motive in the pCs ? There’s such great congruency. What books are you guys reading these days? What are the fuels that make the episodes so rich… the cohesion, the consistent building upon eachother? This is probably an FAQ. I’m going to start world building and improv. because I want to share in these experiences with people. Keep rocking guys! Congratulations. I invite you all to soak it up and enjoy it. Enjoy your vacation. You guys earned it.

Andrew

Taylor, thank you for that crash.

1man2hands

After Burrow's End, having Brennan play a character that refuses to learn to read with Erika trying to make it happen is so funny

Jaimie Colbert

Absolutely fantastic yet again with the added fun bonus that it came out on my birthday. Great way to celebrate the start of the day. Only better Worlds Beyond Numbers celebration would have been a birthday poem from Cyril. 😄

Eric Davies

Excuse me, you are not allowed to make me cry in the first five minutes 😤😭

Issy (the Wizard Scramble)

It's hard to describe how much this show has impacted me this year. I moved to another country and had to leave behind a huge chunk of my identity including leaving my DND group. Listening to this story has given me so much hope in times of hurt and I can't wait to continue it with you next year 🩷

Brian Schoner

I just wanted to say how proud I am of all of you for going through the entire "Stars of the Southern Skies" review scene without describing it as a Eioghorainalysis.

Beomene

Art like this is like an elixir of life. Do you follow what they create over on Dimension20 too? Do you stoat?? :)

mguin

The way Saunter drifts from topic to topic AND sounds like a sleepy cat 💜

mguin

Sunder, it looks like from above - huh, his manner felt very saunter-y to me

Kimberly W

None of my IRL friends listen to this podcast (yet, I'm working on them!) So I am vibrating with the need to share my theories about what's going on with someone, anyone! 😅 if only I had a fox or ink spirit to talk through them with! (I almost said ink spren... shoutout to the Brandon Sanderson fans out there)

Matthew

https://www.dictionaryofobscuresorrows.com/post/23536922667/sonder sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

mguin

Well *shoot*, I'm just going to bask in that description for a bit! What a great word

Giant Tom Hanks

What did the fiery Tamori say to Suvi after she kissed Silver?

Cheese

I FEEL YOU, I always pester my friends cause I'm like I need someone to bounce my feelings and ideas off of! 😭😭

Prof_Bahamut

It's funny you say that because I'm running a campaign using 70% of the Strixhaven book

Tristan

I’m loving season 2 so far, but I kind of wish the stuck with the natural fade-outs at the end of episodes. I thought that they were really neat from a drama standpoint and Taylor did some really cool stuff with them (like the underwater effect from when the wizards got sucked into the whirlpool).

Raina

i love this idea!

Raina

transcript is finally out! the tamori said “nice little smooch”

Raina

you were right!! lol “nice little smooch.” that tamori’s got some attitude

Jonesey

How do they get in These fairy bits and feelings To fuck up the lot

Rachel Ann Harding

I seem to relisten to half the series while waiting for the next episode and the most undermentioned part for me is the are the lines “read me like one of your poems” “then I shall read you while crying- I think you’d like a flat white.” 😂😂😂😂😂🥲

Ashley Teatum

I forgot how much I loved Sonder as a character 🤌✨

Alyssa

“Please don’t make me mourn you” goes so fucking hard
