"Wounds" - WIP Update (Patreon)

So here's the first bit of work I've done so far on our first of several CaitVi themed SFW comics I asked you guys to vote for last month. This is the comic I originally titled "After the Battle". I changed the title to "Wounds" since I think it works better with the themes this comic will have.

For quite a while now I haven't been entirely satisfied with how I draw Caitlyn and Vi. I've felt like I haven't quite been able to capture the essence of the characters with my Legend of Korra-inspired art style. So, before jumping into the comic proper, I decided to take a little time to do some studies and see if I could iron out those kinks. This will also be my first time drawing Vi and Caitlyn in their "Champion" looks from the final Act, so I figured this was also a good chance to practice that before doing the comic.

And yes, Vi is wearing makeup in these. It's hard to spot during the action, but Vi actually has full pink-red eye shadow, and I think even a bit of lipstick, on during the last Act. Maybe her version of warpaint? 😉 Who knows, but it looks great and since I want to make things look as close to canon as possible, she'll have it in the comic, too.

Unfortunately, there aren't any turnaround references freely available yet for their Season 2 looks, so I had to make my own in order to make sure I could draw them consistently from panel to panel. I didn't bother with an exact 1:1 recreation of every last detail, and instead took a few liberties here and there to simplify them and make them work within my usual style (and not take forever to draw). I've still got some work to do on Caitlyn's but I'm pretty happy with Vi's.

Also, full credit goes to @maiikayu on Twitter for making a clean version of Vi's back tattoo. It's gonna save me a lot of time for this and future Arcane comics.

After finalizing the script and storyboard, I realized this comic is going to be a lot longer than I originally thought, and will run about 7 pages. I'll be producing 1-2 pages per month, in between pages of Korra Sandwich and my OC stuff. I also decided I wanted to do a cover for this one, so you can expect that to be the comic's first official update coming sometime next week. That means Page 1 will be coming in February.

Unlike my Anniversary comic, I'll be sharing the full pages exclusively here on Patreon as I finish them. Only teasers will be shared publicly until the comic is complete, at which point I'll make the whole thing public.
