Personally abbott became more than the lessons and the students to me. I don’t mind just the characters being in the episodes cause I personally don’t care about the students as much. Though it does hit very hard when they intwine a lesson into it I don’t think that’s what made abbott good.

Like I get there has to be an overarching story but can’t that just be the characters living their lives? I never felt like Abbott was making a monument to teachers with this show it’s just funny with a little reality added in.

I hear you. And the love letter to teachers aspect is more of a preference of mine I guess. The bigger issue for me is that they aren’t really driving toward anything. At least last season they had the through line of the golf course. The office, parks and rec, etc— they always had something keeping attention. These episodes are just fun. For fun’s sake it seems. Which is fine. It’s just not what I liked about the show.

I see what you mean I’ve watched only a handful of sitcoms so I guess I don’t really know what they are doing at S5 in those shows other than the characters just existing.
