I think there's a couple of things going on here in terms of news spreading. One, plot holes haha. But also, I think the outbreak came so fast that things were already too far gone by the time news would have started picking it up. We were with these characters for just over 24 hours, if I'm remembering correctly, before riots in the street began. We see the high school student saying that it was being talked about on the internet, and then we see the coverage of the incident on the interstate. But the reactions to those respective situations were that it was all fake and conspiracy theories. To me that suggests there weren't enough cases or enough people connecting the dots from one place to another. This is something that nobody saw coming or believe is possible, even when they see it for themselves. So for officials to put all the pieces together enough to warn the public of danger would have taken a lot more time than I think it took for everything to unfold. But again, probably some plot holes as well lol.

Ports

There’s no reason for the apocalypse, the writer never gave a reasoning as to why All of this started, and you have to remember, Rick woke up 4-8 weeks into the apocalypse, he was in a coma , so this walking dead story tells from a different prospective… the very beginning. The ending of this episode is about 2-3 days into the apocalypse so, it’s still very early on, over the next few episodes you’ll definitely get some more answers to some questions. The virus is also in the air, so if you die, you turn into a walker. Everyone’s infected

& answering the question about why it wasting being reported on the media, well first of all, we have to go back to 2010, smartphones were barley just coming out, people weren’t just recording anything, in addition to that, it probably was being reported, but not everyone has time to check out the news, on top of the power going out 2-3 days in. We’re sure it was being reported it just isn’t written into the show

Know it's late but idk if anyone's said There's a youtube short (around 15 mins) episode called The Walking Dead Flight 462 and it shows the plane Nick saw in this episode, basically showing people on it for some more backstory it's a fun minisode!
