Waiting for Gadot

You're were on to it at the end, the episode is largely a metaphor for the show and there's some meta commentary taking place. The gang playing laser tag forever = the gang making the show far longer than anyone thought possible. Big Mo coming = the culture shifting and something coming along where they no longer enjoy making the show and they decide to move on, either purposefully or forced to by the studio. Dennis wants to defend the base and keep doing what they've been doing, making them dolla dolla bills ya'll. Mac & Dee decide to switch it up and try new things, and while they're having fun they start slipping down the leaderboards (the show is criticized and ratings drop). Dennis eventually realizes they're right, that making money isn't all it's cracked up to be because Rutherford B Crazy eventually died in the end and making money didn't make him happy. So they all decide they're going to stop playing the game. But then they pull the rug out from under us, because they don't want to stop. They just want to play the game how they want to, and not care what fans and critics think (Big Mo). So long as they're having fun they'll do it as long as they can. I think they've also said that the episode represented the actors frustrations with the last few seasons, and how they were just going through the motions to make money and not feeling fulfilled and that they had discussed whether to cancel the show and move on, but decided as a group that they'd rather just make the show how they want to until they were forced to shut it down. They'd rather the show get cancelled while they were having fun doing what they wanted vs quitting and cutting their run short. Many fans contend that this is when the show starts to trend back up again.
