Everything that went down at the tomb at the Resurrection of Jesus caused the Roman guards to go to Caiphas, according to the Scriptures, who in turn told them to lie about the body. The Roman guards would have been executed for allowing the body to “be stolen” so it is implied that they most likely used the money to escape Pilate. This series is depicting the guards as having stayed as Roman Guards under Pilate and this particular guard turning to alcoholism as a result of what he witnessed. He also knows if Pilate finds out, he will be executed.
