it only makes sense if Bran is king

I think it's more so the fact that they were offered more episodes in this season or more seasons period in order to have a satisfying ending, but they chose not to.

The unsullied want jon dead but accept his banishment to the nights watch, but they're seen leaving westeros to go to the isle of naath. Yet somehow none of the starks seem to realise that the second the unsullied leave they don't have to actually banish jon, bran can literally just pardon him. Alongside so many of the other character endings, just makes no sense and has no pay off for 8 seasons of development.

ugh a bittersweet feeling having thrones end but i am so excited for your guy’s reactions to house of the dragon! 🐉

Why would Bran immediately go back on his word and pardon Jon? Jon is also honorable and accepts his punishment for what he did. it is keeping with both of their characters. The payoff is that , at least for now, the wheel has been broken, the iron throne is no more, and the person occupying the "throne" is someone with no selfish ambition. It is already being built on small mercy's, by not executing Jon but sending him to the wall instead. By letting the North rule itself and be its own kingdom.

Yeah the showrunners had all the material, the complete outline from GRRM and the go ahead from HBO to do as many as necessary. But they had been working on nothing but GOT for a decade. They wanted to move on. But instead of handing it off to someone else they chose to rush the ending. Because they wanted it to be wholly 'theirs'.

(1:24:02)Phil unknowingly summed up how people feel about the ending in two words: "Yeah, sure." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will say, it's refreshing to see a slightly more positive perspective on this season. I was hoping a re-watch would change mine, but tbh I still hate just about everything about this ending haha. Bran the broken, Drogon somehow knowing that the throne is the enemy, Jon going back to the Night's Watch for... some reason. Honestly the dumbest thing might be that the unsullied didn't execute Jon on sight. Grey Worm was slaughtering prisoners and yet he spares the man who murdered his queen? I think the showrunners simply didn't care about the material anymore.

I think when you watch it a second time and you aren’t emotional during the scenes you will understand why people hated it so much. When I watched it the first time I didn’t hate it but now after rewatching a few times I can’t stand the last two seasons.

Now since we have completed GOT, we should skip House of Dragons and go straight in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms lol js

The problem with people that watch this show is they get invested so much to the point that they forget they are not in control of the story. People seem to develop the feeling of entitlement like as if what they want to happen should happen and their favourite characters should end up the way they pictured the ending in their head. “If you think this has a happy ending then you haven’t been paying attention” - Ramsey Bolton.

To this day, I still believe the hate of the last season and finale is so overblown. No one will say it’s the best work they could’ve done, but just calm down people 🫠
